Anybody notice how similar Pablo Schreiber ( Nick ) looks to Leo Fitzpatrick ( Bubble's drug addict friend ) ?
Shame what happened to Frank. I really liked the guy. A flawed man who got involved with the wrong people. I think this season may have been even better than the last one, and the finale wasn't as deeply cynical as last year's finale. I mean, it seems as if the police actually accomplished something this time.

I enjoyed the season finale. I like that everything wasn't tied up in a neat package. I wouldn't fit the show if everything was resolved at the end of the show.
I think next seaon sould be entitled "Get Stringer Bell". He going to have The Detail on his and Prop Joe's case. Which could end up leading the Detail back to "The Greek" since he's still Prop Joe's hook up. Omar and Brother Muzone are going to be after him and all the while he's probably going to have to hide all the dirt he did from Avon.
Where's Stringer Economics Professor when he need him?

Great eposide.
You know, not everything in life is always tied up in a neat bow after a set time period, frustrating, yes, but also realistic. I'll admit, I wanted more resolution, but I was okay when I didn't get it.
Stringer is in trouble. Looks like "buy for a dollar, sell for two" doesn't play when you bed with the likes of Omar and Brother Muzone. I can't wait to see how that plays out.
Poor Herc and Carver. I hope they stick it out. They're tools, but amusing nontheless.
The way they nailed the Russian at the end was nothing short than a brilliant piece of story telling. Bunk continues to be one of my favorite characters.
Looks like most of the crew (including pres) will be back. I wish we didn't have to wait untill next summer though. Honestly, I can't think of a show besides the Sopranos and the Shield that is more entertaining.

You are so right on. I was upset a little last night but told my wife this is the most realistic cop show on TV. Just like in life the bad guys get away and the drug thing keeps going on. Most shows would not have the guts as Das said to end a season like this. I look forward to next season and season one on DVD whenever it comes out.

Also, HBO revealed a number of new TV series releases on the way, including Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire, Real Sex, Taxi Cab Confessions, American Splendor and Elephant.
It doesn't say when the DVD will come out, but at least it's being worked on.

I can't finger it, but something about the last episode didn't sit right with me.
It was kind of like that last season too. The 2nd last was the climax, and the final one was just tying up loose ends.

His earlier line was even funnier: "You just know that some other cop somewhere is lookin' at a table full of heads."

Beatrice's reaction at seeing Frank was brilliant. I sincerely hope she's part ofthe major case squad next year. As McNulty said, she's got game.
Poor Daniels...sleeping in the den.
Any theories on the signifigance of that thing w/ the beads that The Greek (who apparently isn't, even...) left in the room that Daniels picked up? Or the bottle of Ouzo?

The dialog and acting on this show is so good that the stories could be about anything and I would still watch. But the stories are compelling and just ring true. The problems facing law enforcement in our society cannot be wrapped up in a neat wrapper. Some cases get solved if only to the satiasfaction of the investigating officers The wire is doing a great job of dramatizing that, and entertaining the hell out of us at the same time. This is HBO's best show. All hail season 2 of The Wire from the first episode to the last.

I belive they are a version of prayer or worry beads and would likely be coverd in finger prints as well as being near dear to the greeks heart. I think that is what he was realizing he forgot at when he was at the airport.

Yeah, I agree that's what the pocket-patting he was doing signified. That probably won't come back up until late next year.
Anybody want to speculate on the real ethnic identity of those two ("Spiros" and "The Greek"), since they apparently aren't really Greek (according to, again, "The Greek")?
Since they employed an Israeli ("He's a Jew. From that Jew country they got." - White Mike McCardle, master of contemporary world affairs
) and a Russian or two...I have to wonder. Plus, they can all read Greek. I'm thinking Albanian, or somewhere else in the Balkans.
Not really important, I'm just thinking out loud...

The Wire rebroadcast on HBO2/HBO2P
I didn't realize until just now, or I would have posted earlier. HBO2 is rebroadcasting the first season of The Wire Fridays at 9pm EDT, as in right now. It will also rerun on HBO2P at midnight EDT.
The third episode is the one for this week, so if you haven't seen it you've only missed two of 13, which could be worse. I actually didn't get hooked until episode 4, rebroadcast next week, when the only dialogue between two cops investigating a crime scene is the f-bomb, dropped 37 times or something.
Great, great show.

HBO Enlists Veteran Crime Writers for 'The Wire'
http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve...676|1|,00.html
(Monday, January 12 10:50 AM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - HBO's acclaimed drama "The Wire" has recruited two of crime fiction's most respected urban chroniclers to join the show's staff for its third season. "Mystic River" scribe Dennis Lehane and "Clockers" author Richard Price will be on board when production begins this spring.
Price and Lehane will join a writing crew that includes series creator David Simon ("The Corner"), as well as former Baltimore police detective Edward Burns, short-story writer Rafael Alvarez and Baltimore-based independent filmmaker Lusco Kecken.
"This show prides itself on being a haven for writers who are committed to storytelling, regardless of the medium, just as HBO is a haven for anyone in television who is trying to tell stories in a different way," Simon says.
Price, who earned an Oscar nomination for his script for 1986's "The Color of Money," has also written the features "Sea of Love" and "Mad Dog and Glory." His other novels include "Freedomland." This will be Lehane's first shot at writing for the big or small screen. The script for the heavily-lauded feature of "Mystic River" was adapted by Brian Helgeland.
Simon explains that the show's third season will continue its deconstruction of the urban drug economy, while getting deeper into the political process.
"It's the third year for the city where the story takes place," he says. "By that calendar, look for election-year politics to play an important part in the events that unfold."
Dominic West, Sonja Sohn, Lance Reddick, Wendell Piece, Wood Harris, Idris Elba, Deirdre Lovejoy and Clarke Peters are among the actors returning to the cast.
At least we don't have to guess whether this show is returning for it's 3rd season!

Anyone heard anything about when it will start? With Sopranos starting in March instead of Six Feet Under, and SFU not starting until June, I wonder if that means The Wire gets pushed back until September-ish...

I'm fairly positive that it premiered last year on May 1.
Anyone who's ever read a single word Richard Price has written knows how great he is. I don't know about Lahane, but my mother, who is a huge mystery fan, tells me he's excellent.
I can't see this being anything but great for the show which is, as das correctly puts it, the best thing on TV.

Either this is great news or it means that I will have to watch each episode THREE times now to follow all the characters and twists.
BTW, could they lend the short story writer to Carnivale'?
Maybe he could teach them how to condense a storyline.

I never expected to really like The Shield, because I thought it was going to gloss over what Mackey is and make us think everything he does is a-ok, (like NYPD Blue used to do with Sipowicz.) Instead, it's development of him, and everyone else, is complex, very deep and layered. What he does and who he is has cost him dearly, and continues to do so.
