RoQuEr...it's not the same guy. OZ is set somewhere in Maryland and The Wire is set in Baltimore itself.
All I remember about that guy is that he eventually fessed up to waxing the other cop. It seems he was transferred, but I actually can't specifically remember.

Oz is set in an undisclosed state. The reason being is that it plays with a lot of state politics and the governor is a real son of a bitch - worse than most of the prisoners.

It could just be that I'm assuming this given the track record of the participants, but it seems to me they've mentioned it before. I could be wrong.
I doubt they'd care much about stepping on toes, because they've implicitly and (often) explicitly taken a whiz on the internecine poltitcs of the Baltimore PD.

Anyone else excited about S2 of the wire?
I'm suprised there hasn't been a thread but season two starts in June. I really enjoyed the show in the first season but have not rewatched it in re-runs. I was real excited to see an ad for the new season before or after 6FU this past weekend.
I just looked at HBO and there wasn't anything in the wire section about the new season.
Edit: as American Beauty put it, look closer...

There have been a few threads discussing it. I'm sure discussion will pick up in June when there's something to talk about.
I'm very much looking forward to it, though.

D'oh, I remember people talking about the show comming back but I don't recall seeing a date. Must not have searched far enough back.
Very intersted to see who is back and how the relationships develop.

Personally, I'm quite jazzed. Just two weeks.
I saw a more detailed promo tonight, and among the returnees, we seem to have: McNulty, Avon, D'Angelo (those last two in the Stripey Hole), Keema, Bunk
, Daniels and (I'm not sure if I saw him, but he was in the small pic that ran in TV Guide a couple of weeks ago), Bubbles. I think Freeman's back, also, which is great, because that guy is mega-cool.
Some new folks and a new locale, down at the waterfront. Looking forward to it, tremendously.

is this a show that you can start watching at the beginning of season two and still enjoy? (yes, I'm aware that season 1 has been replaying on HBO the last several months)

djbrown: I would think so. You'll have to learn all the characters, but they are starting a new story arc so I don't think you'd be lost in the middle of the plot. It does appear from the previews that some of the bad guys from season 1 are back, so it will be interesting to see how they tie in to the new plot.

Starting w/ Season Two...
I would say that you can safely do that and still get real enjoyment from it. It's going to be complex and demand your attention whether you're familiar with the first season or not.
Jumping in during Season Two is how I got started watching Six Feet Under, which is equally involved, so I think you'll be fine.

Bump.
The character development in the first season was incredible. Everyone was so human, and despite the fact that there were probably 40 different characters, we got to see alot of them do 180's, and some people stay exactly the same.
Ending the season with the whole "what job don't you want to do next?" question was classic.

I watched the season finally again last night and can't wait for the next season. They also had an extended preview of season 2. They said that the main story arc will focus on the docks and the corruption there, but last seasons drug dealers and such will be involved in a secondary story arc that continues what season 1 had started. So for those wondering whether or not they can pick it up at season 2, I would say yes.

) how he got stuck in the pawn shop unit, he said "When they ask you where you don't want to go, and they will...don't tell 'em."Is Freeman coming back? I think I saw him in the promos, but I'm not positive. I know Bunk is, and I'm guessing they're still partners.
SPECULATION:
Spoiler:
I just hope that their template for a second season is The Shield (which improved upon an already excellent start during it's second season), rather than 24.

<------------------ CANT WAIT!
Also, I agree that it started and built up every week. I down right hated the first month of the season, but could not turn it off towards the end.
