"Straight and True"
"I had such fuckin' hopes for us." - McNulty
The best show on TV and no one is talking about it?
I liked this episode. To a certain extent, you have to respect Stringer for what he's done. He's definitely brought the drug game from a bunch of bangers out on the streets to a calculated thinking man's business.
I'm also enjoying the Cutty story line. He seems to be really struggling with what to do with his life. You can tell he wants to be straight, but there is no way he can live the poor lifestyle he would have to accept after running with money for so long.
The western district finally got what they wanted with the drug dealers moving to the streets of abandoned houses. I have a feeling this is going to come back to bite them in the ass pretty hard. The spot will turn in to the new towers, with the dealers taking over those houses.
Best exchange of the night:
Stringer: Yo, motherfucker what is that?
Kid: The Robert Rules say we gotta have minutes for the meetin' right? These the minutes.
Stringer: ***** is you takin notes on a criminal fuckin' conspiracy? The fuck is you thinkin' man!

We've been seeing this Stringer-Avon conflict (and possibly one between Avon and his sister) for a long time.
I love Fremon and McNulty "He tried to sell me a condo..."

Their confrontation last week was excellent. Two friends who are both really stressed almost fighting. It's a very realistic situation.

I love this show, but I'm having a hard time buying that the police set up an area for drug dealers to do business in. It's just not sitting right with me heh.

But he is at the end of his rope. He is gone soon, either retirement or being fired, and he has to produce some numbers, and this is his big gamble. Plus this is just the beginning of his plan, remember there is more to it.

Is there a possible writing error this season? The Councilman has been bringing up the issue of the murder of a State's witness. I'm pretty sure they said the last name was Gant. That murder goes back to season one.
The way they said the murder went down doesn't sound like it did in season one. The Councilman said Gant got killed at some cheap motel "safehouse".
In season one I remember Bunk interviewing a witness at a housing project were the murder was supposed to have taken place.
Anyone remember this?

I have to say that I am pretty dissapointed with this season so far. It pales in comparison to other seasons, but I definitely thing that there is many things left to play out. I am anxiously awaiting the inevitable Stringer/Avon struggle for power.

Hamsterdam. Has a nice ring to it. I thought the cheap motel was a reference to the place where Nick was placed at the end of Season 2 when he went States witness.

No Wire on 10/24????
So where was the Wire last night?! It's not like HBO to not broadcast something because of sports....
And by the way, I haven't had a chance to watch last week's episode yet (still Tivo'd). Did they mention no Wire at the end of the ep?

The Wire - 11/14
"Moral Midgetry"
Directed by AGNIESZKA HOLLAND
Brianna and McNulty sit down for a heart-to-heart, while Avon dispatches the troops to track Omar and wrestles with a revelation by Stringer. Carcetti confronts a hurdle he must clear if he wants to run for higher office, while Marlo appears to take the bait set by the Barksdale crew. Prez impresses the detail with what he's found out from Bodie's cell phone, information that sends McNulty and Greggs on a road trip. Colvin sees the benefits of his plan working, but has overlooked the human toll, until the Deacon points out the deficiencies.
Only five episodes left. I can't wait to see the resolution to the Barksdale story. So many ways it could play out.

Is there no love for this show? I recently watched the first season and was jaw droppingly amazed as to the quality of the writing, and acting. It's one of the best dramas I have ever seen. I've seen some threads on it, but a show this good, this satisfying, deserves more.
I got into The Wire in the middle of the second season when I had Digital cable but was unable to see the last episode due to the fact that I had to go back to basic because I wasn't able to watch one channel while recording another( I work 3-11pm so I need to be able to record different channels).
I have been able to watch season 3, thankfully, and I still think it's the best show out there.
Can't wait for the release of the second season on DVD.

The Wire is THE best show on television.
I'm also disappointed it doesn't get it due.
I'm also interested in how it all ends. Will their be another season? It looks like when this case is over McNulty is out of the squad after he screwed Lt. Daniels.
The show is so well written I think it can survive without McNulty.

Im not sure this "case' ends at the end of this year...it looks like there setting these things up to be a continuing storyline.
I think we used to have weekly threds in previous seasons here.

Three things:
Again, Richard Price rules. Read his books, they're brilliant.
I really and truly thought when Avaon was yammering about how Stringer wasn't "hard" that he was going to turn around and find a cold steel barrel looking back at him, childhood friends or not.
I've always thought that String had more to fear from D's mother than Avon, if the truth came to light. That scene with her and McNulty was intense. He wasn't playing her. He really liked D'Angelo, insofar as you can under those circumstances.

Marlo is one smart SOB. I like how he does not drink. Avon has got to go back to the drawing board to get Marlo.
Hamsterdam is so volatile, it teeters on the edge of working and/or blowing up in the Major's face.
I caught this show mid 2nd season after I got HBO, and I was hooked the first episode. I have not got a chance to get the first season yet, but I can not wait. Too bad I can not catch the first half of the second season for a while.
