Thats one of the things I do like about the Wire is that they do wrap up the season without any real cliffhangers which would allow it to be cancled and not leave any open ends to the show......Unlike some series (Carnivale) where HBO cancled the show pre maturely and left storylines open and major cliffhangers go un resolved

And yet if it were cancelled after last season, we would have wondered why they were starting to introduce the character of Carcetti, who undoubtedly comes into his own in this season. Not a cliffhanger, but something I would've been disapointed if there weren't follow-ups to. I have a feeling the Carcetti storyline is going to get pretty interesting. (By the way - anyone else see Buddy Boy starring Aidan Gillen?)

I think Snoop is a pretty great evil character, Loved the opening scene, and near the end, the shot of her in the park was pretty eerie.

Is every episode going to be shown in advance this way? Do you think Sopranos will be available this way next year?

I really don't think they'll do this with the Sopranos. That show is much more of a mainsteam hit, so could you imagine the controversy when major spoilers are leaked about characters being whacked, days before they air on regular HBO? The only reason they're doing it for The Wire is to try to get more people to watch, by giving them an alternative (and they're probably tracking how many times you watch it On-Demand; even David Simon said at a recent book signing to play episodes On-Demand as many times as you can).

Just had a chance to watch the first episode and thought it was good. Not really sure what I think about the kids yet, but the Marlo and police stories look like they will still be great.

Is that Hamsterdam where Chris and Snoop are leaving the bodies?

The Wire - "Soft Eyes" - 9/17/06 (and on Demand)

"Soft Eyes"
Spoiler:
Herc's soft-duty job with the mayor takes an unexpectedly hard turn. Despite the potential damage to her career, Pearlman provides Freamon and Sydnor with subpoena ammunition for their "grizzly-bear" hunt in City Hall. Carcetti concentrates on games he can win; Namond gets some grooming advice from his father, Wee-Bey; Marlo plays Robin Hood with the neighborhood kids, though Michael isn't taking; Bubbles brings an apprentice into his mobile-emporium business; Cutty juggles his landscaping job with a volunteer gig as a boxing mentor, eyeing Michael as a pupil; Prez braces for his first day as a schoolteacher. At the televised mayoral debate, Carcetti drops a bombshell on the mayor.

I figured I'd start this to keep anymore episode 2 talk out of the episode 1 thread

I can not access this episode, it is there on my On-Demand but when I click to watch it I get a message that I am not authorized to view. I get this message on all my HBO In-Demand. I guess I will try again tonight.

The show looked great for 3 seasons without being in HD. Why the hell would the creators change it now?

Well, considering that this and Scrubs are practically the only two "primetime" non-reality shows that aren't in HD, I think he asked a pretty fair question.

Really great episode, though.

Great episode, loved Cutty getting some love outside the game. Did Bubs and Prez ever meet?

This thought is just screaming for a Jesse Jackson clone to jump in with the "So all black guys look the same to you? You're a racist!" argument.

There were great shows in Black and White, but I am glad they went color. Just seems like a natural step to me. Especially since it is on HBO.

LOL!!!! I was thinking the same thing BUT...really they dont look a like....There are a lot of characters BUT some are not important are just one episode "walk ons" the main characters are what you need to keep focus on and usually you can tell if a character is going to come back with this show with suttle hints.....
