Without a doubt, a fast moving, unbelievable episode! At first, I wasn't sure if Ziggy actually did it; thought he might be daydreaming.... wow. The scene with Nick and Frank was strong as well..... Can't wait for next week!!

So should Sobotka get shafted here?
With Avon, it wasn't ambiguous, you knew he was going down. With Sobotka, I feel ambivalent. He isn't doing it for personal gain, and if he goes down, the union goes down, and a lot of people lose their job because of it.

that's one of the points I like about this season: from the police persepective, Sobatka is a point man, getting paid on the side; nothing else. From the viewer perspective, he's got morales, and he's almost a "Robin Hood" kind of character- taking the money to help the poor (okay- maybe that's a bad relate). Either way, I think he'll end up going down, but he may end up turning state witness to get the bigger fish.....

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
Absolutely the only thing on God's green earth that could make this show any better, is the addition of the mighty Richard Price's pen to the show.

I agree its not as clear cut that he should be in jail. On the one hand the girls in the can died as part of his actions/inactions which would make Frank and Horseface an accesory to the deaths, he is helping push drugs and contraband past customs and seeing gain for it, but it'd take Ziggy turing the greeks over and them rolling on Frank to really prove it so I hope he ends up getting a slap.
All this because of a window in a church that hasn't been seen since the first episode of the season.

Oh and for those that missed the last few episodes HBO is doing a 3 hour mini marathon of the last few episodes before the finale. Not sure the exact time date but so far its not been mentioned...

Wow, can't believe there was no thread on this. What a great episode, don't know where to begin.
First of all Omar and Brother Mulzone, suprised that was not a bigger thing, I expected a lot out of that confrentation, instead it was two professionals doing their job. I can't wait to see this bite Stringer in the arse.
Next we have the LT going in and talking to the fat detective. Oh man that was priceless. 'Even by the standards of Baltamore police works this is a major scerw up.' I also like the line about them walking into the wake and looking stupid.
I am shocked to say I actually felt sorry for Ziggy the boy plays pathetic well. I don't even want to touch Frank, that poor bastard did everything for the union and it looks like he's going to come out of this worse than anybody if I read that last scene.
I don't quite get what he was trying to prove by working the ship. At first I thought he was looking to get in to hide something at his office then he just digs in and shows he's regular folks...
I am on edge waiting for next weeks finale. Can't wait to see how it plays out, hopefully Frank makes it, but I have my doubts on that one.
I can also brethe easy knowing that the show will be back next year. This is the best show on TV right now and may even rival SFU IMHO.
One gripe is there are so many characters I can't keep half their names straight...

I liked the exchange between Omar and Brother Muzone. I was also expecting a knock down, drag out fight, but that doesn't seem to be the show's style. They way they handled it was perfect. One thing is for sure, Stringer is in for it. If not now, soon.
LT. chewing out Landsman was priceless. I was wondering wtf was going on with that situation.
I have no idea where the finale is headed. It's not going to be neat and tidy, that's for sure.
Oh yeah, and Bunk gets the award for having the best lines of the season (most of which cannot be repeated).

Especially after last night's episode- how The Wire did not receive any Emmy nominations (especially for writing) is beyond me. Last night's ep felt like 5 minutes....
I also didn't understand Frank working the trucks- but did anyone else notice the snub the workers gave him? The other guy in the trailer would carry a package to the edge, and the guy outside the trailer would take it from him. When Frank came to the edge, the outside man kind of ignored him, so Frank had to crawl out of the trailer and stack the box himself..... I actually feel bad for the guy! He summed it up perfectly when he was going over him demands with "the good guys:" "Nothing touches the Union!" He's a very interesting character....
And I agree Fahmad: Bunk was hilarious!!! "What does a just rolled out of bed looking mother f***er like you know about fashion?!" I was rolling last night!
Great episode- I'm psyched for next week's finale- I wonder if this finale will give the cops a win, as opposed to last season, where they didn't get the "Hollywood ending" most people were expecting?

Something that bothers me is when you have someone who has information like Frank Sobotka why not keep a tail on him? It always seems like famous last words when the cops or the Prosecutorsin a tv show or movie say we'll take you statement tomorrow.

Great episode. Although I really doubt they would let Frank go for a full day. Too much to go wrong (like it appears it will). But sometimes realism must be sacrificed to move the plot along.
Overall I actually would have liked to have the two plot lines split up so we could focus on the port this year and focus on the drug dealing next year. Especially if they went into more depth about the relationship between the community and the docks. I think we have too many good characters (and actors) competing for screen time.
The neglect of "The Wire" in the Emmy nominations shows how worthless those awards are. Chris Bauer (who plays Frank) is turning in one of the finest performances I've seen all year. Also the actor who play's Frank's brother really did a great job last night. You could just feel the contempt and anger he had when he was discussing the raid with Frank. There was a definite "If I was 20 years younger, I would kick your ass for this" attitude there.

On the second point I agree there is a lot going on and it gets hard to follow the charaters and keep track of them. But having so many fine actors is hardly a problem.

I agree with what some people are saying about a happy ending, but I don't see it coming. Sure, I think the crew needs the points so they can continue on as a special investigative unit, but I'm not sure if that will happen.
That's what's so great about this show, for the most part you can't call it. Like last week with Ziggy capping double G, I doubt anyone saw that coming. And the crooked FBI agent. What a prick (Damn you Busmalis).
Whatever they have in store for the finalae and next season will be capitivating, and well written to say the least.
And as for the emmy's, screw them. Other than giving The Shield an emmy last year they are strictly status quo. They didn't even jump on the Sopranos untill a year or two after it came out (I think).

I figured Frank was going to get right after the Greek got the phone call. I am upset the season is almost over. I wish the first season would make it out on DVD all ready.

Bump!
Don't forget the last three episodes are going to air back to back at 9PM on Saturday and the finale is on Sunday at 9:35!
Yes 9:35 Also I just checked the HBO schedule and the run time is listed as 62 minutes so don't get cut short, adjust your VCR accordingly.
SITC must be running long or they are doing another long promo for Carnivale.

The wire 8/24 season finale
Wow, what a let down after the last few episdoes.
First of all I saw Frank getting killed last week but I was still sad to see it happened. Glad he put up a fight at least he was a stand up guy despite his helping the "Greeks."
Glad to see them wrap up the girls in the can at least but the episode played like a mid season episode not a season finale. Glad to know the show is comming back but I get the impression they re-edited the episode for that reason to continue the Towers story line and the rest of the drug angle.
thats my thoughts for now, got to get to doing some work now.

I thought for sure Nick the "Pi-guy" would get a bullet in the back near the end of the episode.
Although I enjoyed it, I agree it left plenty open for next season. Oh well, it just gets me counting down the days until the third season opener.

I thought Nick was going to take a bullet in the end too. I had thought he was a somewhat smart kid but going into work while going into the relocation program what a tool.
Intersting to see next season how Omar gets at Stringer. I was hoping that would happen last night. It'd be a nice twist to see him testify against him and put him away like he did the other kid from the tower but I don't see that as satisfying Omar. I also suspect he needs to move fast as Brother Mulsone is probably going to be going afte Stringer as well.
Kima is such a man, seeing her in the baby store was intersting her girl looking at stuff oh and ahing things and she's like whatever.

Pretty gutsy season finale to leave that much unresolved. I think the only drawback on the season was that Nick can't act, so his crying scenes didn't play well, but everything else was great. With so many threads still active, I'm going to need a countdown calendar for the 3rd season.

Great eposide.
You know, not everything in life is always tied up in a neat bow after a set time period, frustrating, yes, but also realistic. I'll admit, I wanted more resolution, but I was okay when I didn't get it.
Stringer is in trouble. Looks like "buy for a dollar, sell for two" doesn't play when you bed with the likes of Omar and Brother Muzone. I can't wait to see how that plays out.
Poor Herc and Carver. I hope they stick it out. They're tools, but amusing nontheless.
The way they nailed the Russian at the end was nothing short than a brilliant piece of story telling. Bunk continues to be one of my favorite characters.
Looks like most of the crew (including pres) will be back. I wish we didn't have to wait untill next summer though. Honestly, I can't think of a show besides the Sopranos and the Shield that is more entertaining.
