Well...

It's nothing to do with that actually, the source of the subs is Fortune Star, who DD got the elements from. They just assumed the subtitles were correct and simply touched them up.

it was matted in widescreen for DVD and quite a few people agree it's a full screen film, as some of the matting covers important info.
