Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Personally, between the two I liked Beauty and the Beast better. Ratings wise they're not too far off (not that it necessarily matters for box office results; Mary Poppins is 78% Critics and 69% Audience, BatB is 71% Critics and 80% Audience.

Which explains why my mom and a family friend who doesn’t have any granddaughters both wanted to take my 7-year-old to see it.

Plus those animated to live action adaptations seem to be way more popular than sequels.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

I was bored to tears with Beauty and the Beast. I really enjoy the animated one, but the live action didn't do it for me. No spark. Kids liked it, though.

Couldn't agree more. Beautiful to look at, but ZZZZZZZZZ. I got no joy out of it at all. Unlike the brilliant animated film.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

For the 4-day:
Alita looks to be pulling about $27.7m
Lego 2 is looking at $27.5m,
Isn't it Romantic with $12.3m
Happy Death Day 2 U with $8m.

Kinda sucks HDD2U is tanking (the first opened around $26m opening weekend), but counter programming doesn't always work (and it only cost $9m).

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Looking like Ralph Breaks the Internet will reach the $200 million mark--Disney worked their magic again, though they couldn't quite push Christopher Robin to $100 million.

Oddly, Rampage somehow cleared $100 million despite falling off the Box Office Mojo daily tracking. I'm sure there were some shenanigans there. I noticed because I was curious about how big The Rock's films really were and saw that one had hit $101 million despite seemingly stalling out at $99 million.

I'm happy for How to Train Your Dragon, the series is a favorite of mine and underrated when compared to Pixar and Disney work, IMO.

3-day $157m - $160m, I think it'll correct down slightly but overall very impressive.

That's just how Box Office Mojo does their daily grids.

It's strange that there doesn't seem to be any box office information for the new Nancy Drew movie.

I had the same thought. Maybe because it’s an AMC theater exclusive?

What's NO MANCHES FRIDA 2? A sequel to the Frida Kahlo biopic with Salma Hayek some years ago?

Tough to say, it's a remake of a German film thats title was translated to Fuck You, Goethe and released as Suck Me Shakespeer in the US. That series now has 3 movies and this is on movie 2.

Goethe was the name of the school in the original. I assume Frida is the name of the school in the remake.

No Manches Frida would be what? Are you kidding me, Frida? Fuck you Frida! Really, Frida?
