Pretty decent hit on Superman's Thurs numbers (4.7m) it's looking like a 25m third wknd.(just taking the previous weeks thurs to wknd percentage) With that, assuming 40% drops going forward it's on the glidepath to 375m domestic. MCU has a larger up front audience, so even if F4 opens bigger, I think domestically Supes wins. But overall they will end up about the same, low 600's.

$500M plus. That's an excellent run for a car racing movie. Especially a 2 1/2 hour movie.

F4 did alright, slightly under the $125m estimated. Supes was down a bit more than they probably wanted but still doing well overall

Yeah, the Superman domestic box-office drops are actually quite good all things considered. It is the International numbers that are giving James Gunn a bit of heartburn. That being said, Superman has already made enough money to already put a smile on the faces of a lot of corporate suits.
I do think that FF will do better than Superman outside of the U.S.. I think FF might leg out to as high as $750-800 million worldwide gross, but Superman might actually stall out in the high 600 million amount.
I enjoyed the heck out of both films, and am just happy that comic films from both D.C. and Marvel are on a noticeable upswing in quality.

For Gunn and Safran and the burgeoning DCU, Superman is -- if nothing else -- a goodwill win. Despite Snydermos kvetching on and on about "divided audiences" and what-not, the movie has had solid holds and strong WOM.
Before this we had, what Blue Beetle, Aquaman 2, The Flash, Shazam 2, Wonder Woman 84, Black Adam, and so forth. Just junk after junk after junk. The only win they had was The Batman and that's "Elseworlds" or whatever.
With Superman, they went tabula (mostly) rasa. With the world's biggest superhero. And stuck the landing. Like the Confederacy in the Civil War, a tie is as good as a win. Half a billion worldwide in 17 days is pretty strong. They've not only established a foundation and generated goodwill among fans, it's quite possible the films could end up being somewhat profitable for WB/DC. Certainly not Marvel/Billion Dollar Club/Pre-Endgame levels, but no one's expecting that anytime soon.

Fantastic Four didn't really do that well considering how MCU films are usually more front-loaded. It will be interesting to see if it has legs.

So at $420 million domestic and a billion dollars world wide it seems like Lilo & Stitch takes the crown for the Summer and likely the year so far. At least until Avatar releases and James Cameron pulls off yet another miracle. I don't think there's another release that would challenge L&S.

At this point there isn’t much competition for the rest of the summer, so I could see it (and Superman) doing well through Labor Day.

As some have pointed out Superman didn't need to turn a profit but instead its goal was to rinse the stink of the graveyard the DCEU was. In addition, the studio probably made $150M from product tie-ins alone from what I read.

I think FF is a much better film than Superman and I liked Superman enough. FF hit harder for me, though.

Marvel movies have always been heavily front loaded. And scheduling it with 2 other summer blockbuster movies was always going to cut into it. While I really liked the movie, I don’t think it screams repeat viewings.

Going to interesting to see how the top 10 this week turns out.
Fantastic 4 had a big 1st week, but it's looking like it will take a 66% drop week 2.
Not really sure how Naked Gun and Bad Guys 2 are going to do. For the record, I saw both.
Now that Fantastic 4 is out, we are basically at the end of all the Blockbuster releases for the rest of the year until Avatar 3 comes out in December.

Poor hold for F4, decent opening for Bad Guys 2 and Naked Gun.

Yikes. I think this really doesn’t bode well for the MCU. I think that guy hit the nail on the head. The MCU fans are there for every release but they just aren’t doing enough to bring in new fans. Especially since this was the most stand alone MCU movie in a very long time. I think the really late summer release didn’t help. Some kids are already back to school.
