It'll be interesting to see how Aquaman does in the long run. It's the lowest domestic open for the DCEU, but the Christmas holiday, generally positive reviews, and an already massive overseas take that's close to Justice League's overseas totals should make for a decent success?
I'm more hoping Bumblebee finds footing so they don't instantly decide to stick with bombast in the future.

8TH UPDATE, 7:30 AM Wednesday: Aquaman had a huge Christmas Day, earning $22M to make it one of six films to gross north of $20M on Christmas after Star Wars pics The Force Awakens ($49.3M), The Last Jedi ($27.4M) and Rogue One ($25.8M), along with Sherlock Holmes ($24.6M), and Avatar ($23M). This takes the James Wan-directed movie to $101M through five days, and with previews $105.7M. Aquaman jumped 102% over its Christmas Eve take of $10.95M.
Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns was second yesterday with $11.5M, +89% over Christmas Eve with a running total of $50.2M over its first week, 108% ahead of The Greatest Showman a year ago over the same number of days. Paramount’s Bumblebee saw $8.9M yesterday, +140% from Monday for a five-day total of $34.2M. The industry is estimating that the Transformers spinoff ends its domestic run around $120M.

Not sure comparing any movie to Greatest Showman makes much sense as it was one of the rare recent movies that would only drop 10-15% a week or even outperform the previous week on occasion.

If Bumblebee manages to make $120M domestic, I would say that's a huge success coming off the failure that was The Last Knight. I think the good word of mouth and high RT score is going to help entice some who were leery about it.

Of course $120M isn't going to be profitable. It will need to make it's money back from the foreign market, especially China.

Warner Bros.' superhero pic Aquaman is keeping up its reign at the holiday box office, where it is expected to earn another $15.5 million on Friday for a projected second-weekend gross of $47 million or more, according to early returns.

Aquaman has now made $748M worldwide and has passed Suicide Squad to be the #3 movie in the DCEU. Depending on how it does (worldwide), might pass Wonder Woman next week.

Yeah, Aquaman is doing extremely well.
Ralph Breaks the Internet had a hefty bounce this week as well, it was looking a little anemic a couple weeks ago but had a hefty 39% jump this past weekend and is now at $175m -- it should easily pass #1s $189m and possible crest $200m domestic.

Impressed by Aquaman, I didn't think it would hold that well in it's second week even with the holiday. I'll eat crow on that one. Glad to see Ralph bounce back, I was a little worried about that one performing worse then the original.

Good to see Bumblebee pick up some foreign money. China still hasn't been fully accounted for since it only opened there 2 days ago.

I doubt Warner brings Wan back for a sequel. They'll hand the job to a competent, workman-like director (read:cheaper) and give Wan an even bigger property to direct. I can guarantee there are WB executives right now begging him to take over any number of properties, including Superman.

Warner doesn't seem to have any interest in developing another Superman movie. Basically, if Wan wants to do a sequel (and work with that cast), he'll do the sequel. If the studio is willing to pay Patty Jenkins for WW84, they'll be willing to give Wan a nice pay bump.

Warner Bros isn't big on rocking the boat, they'll likely keep Wan on board which is great, he seems to have had a much better experience here than he did with F&F7 (and that's ignoring the fact that his star died).
