UHD release announcements

Re: UHD release announcements
Well, there were eight in the original set, so this splits that down the middle. If these sell well, we'll probably see the others. There are so many 4K packages coming out this year, I'll have to wait and see the reviews before I decide to pick this up.

Re: UHD release announcements
I’ve had a 4K itch, and it’s really hard just to buy titles. How come I can’t find the (reboot) of the Apes Trilogy and just can’t find a website that sells it. Even some of the single releases are sold out. Same with the X-men Titles, the Peanuts movie…:what am I missing? I’m literally trying to buy new a dozen or so titles and keep running into roadblocks for a handful of common studio titles.

Re: UHD release announcements
It’s probably not a coincidence that all the titles you listed are from Fox. Keeping those titles in print presumably isn’t much of a priority for Disney.

The X-men and Apes flicks in 4k are a mainstay at my Half Price Books. Give them a look if you have one near you and don't mind used.

Re: UHD release announcements
It's an anthology of 9 anime short films from 1987. Many well known talents worked on this including Katsuhiro Otomo, Yasuomi Umetsu,...Film soundtrack is composed by Joe Hisaishi (you may know him from Studio Ghibli films).
This 2006 Buried Treasure article will explain better than I could: http://4NN.cx/.15529 (and I'll just note 1 part of it below).
I recommend at least streaming it. It's streaming for free at many sites.

And for anyone wondering, Discotek Media won't be doing 4K UHD + BD combo due to cost.

To really understand HOW high-budget this film is, one must only notice the ridiculously intricate artwork, the obsessive attention to detail, and the smoothness of the animation - which is mostly animated on 1's, or full 24-frames per second. That's something even Studio Ghibli doesn't afford itself. It's a marvel, by today's standards, that no computers were used in its animation process.

Re: UHD release announcements
We’re thrilled to announce Criterion’s first 4K Ultra HD releases, a six-film slate that includes Citizen Kane, Menace II Society, The Piano, Mulholland Dr., The Red Shoes, and A Hard Day’s Night. The first of these editions and their special features will be detailed in our November 2021 announcement next week, with others to follow in subsequent months.
The most dazzling debut in cinema history, Orson Welles’s Citizen Kane was Criterion’s first laserdisc release 37 years ago. It now rejoins the library after a long absence, making its first appearance in 4K Ultra HD along with Allen and Albert Hughes’s riveting breakthrough Menace II Society; Jane Campion’s Academy Award–winning The Piano, starring Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin in her breakout role; David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr., a tale of love and jealousy in the city of dreams; Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s singular Technicolor fantasia The Red Shoes; and Richard Lester’s timeless movie musical A Hard Day’s Night, which brought the Beatles’ revolutionary talent and irreverent humor to the big screen.
Each title will be available in a 4K UHD+Blu-ray combo pack including a 4K UHD disc of the feature film as well as the film and its special features on Blu-ray. Select films will be presented in Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos. Stay tuned for more details in our November announcement!

Re: UHD release announcements
I'm thrilled with that opening salvo. I have a feeling I'll be buying most -- and perhaps every last one -- of the films that Criterion brings to UHD BD.

Re: UHD release announcements
I suppose since they waited so long, this type of wide-ranging slate makes sense. I'll be curious to see what type of supplements they'll include with Kane. They originally released it on laserdisc eons ago, but WB has released hefty packages on DVD and BD. I believe they also had Menace II Society on laserdisc.
