eBay (especially for Warner and Disney), Deep Discount, bestbuy.com, target.com (mostly when there's a B2G1F sale), Bull Moose, Diabolik DVD, directly from the label (Vinegar Syndrome, Arrow, GRUV, etc.).

Hamilton Book has some cheap UHD Blu-rays, and flat $4 shipping:

Next title to find is The New Mutants which just came out 6 months ago - nearly impossible in store!
I've actually switched to Best Buy online from Amazon. I've had to cancel every pre-order I had with Amazon in the last 3 months because they hadn't even shipped on release day. BB is getting them in my hands a day early in most cases. My Prime ends this month and I am not renewing. Amazon is proving worthless for pre-orders and I despire Bezos anyway.

Sounds like you’re trying to find something in store, which I’ve altogether given up on. My go tos for online are Target during a b2g1 or deep discount during a 15% off sale. I’m able to preorder 90% of what I want that way. If I can’t I look at Best Buy and then Amazon.

Agreed. Either the studios are consciously shorting Amazon (unlikely) or the web giant simply doesn't care about selling media anymore. The pre-order thing happens all the time with music releases as well.

I have not went to a store to buy a disc since 2009

Amazon might have its flaws like sending 5 blu-rays in a bubble mailer and not a box but most of the time it works out ok.

Re: UHD release announcements

Ebay is a rip-off for most new 4K UHD discs, The scalpers bought up a lot of the new Basic Instinct 4K discs that are only available in the UK and are selling them on Ebay for like 3-4X the price. Freaking ridiculous.

Re: UHD release announcements

It just depends, but they mostly include blu. Almost Famous and Super 8 is 4K only, the 2 disc Lara Croft set doesn't, but the individual releases do. Paramount sucks at physical releases.

They haven't been lately. Almost Famous only had two 4K discs no Blu-ray discs. Days of Thunder only had a 4K disc too.

Re: UHD release announcements

But their sets have blu’s, same for the GI Joe movies that just came out. No rhyme or reason as to why they do this.

There are some deals to be had. I've had a lot of luck with animated DC movies, for instance, to the point that I buy them almost exclusively on eBay anymore: brand-new for $15 (give or take a buck) and free shipping a few weeks after release. And that's unopened, with the digital copy code and slipcover still included. I can usually find Warner and Disney titles for $15-$20 on eBay shortly after release while they're still $25-$30 in-stores.

...even though it was released alongside Top Gun, which was a combo pack. Not sure what the deal is. But the days of UHD + BD + digital are probably coming to a close. I take a lot of those surveys that Warner packs in with their releases, and so many of the questions are about how essential a digital copy code is when buying physical media.

Does it seem like Warner wants to drop codes? They already do so for second round production. I see 4k+BD+Digital as redundant, 4k+Digital works for me. 4k+nothing is a dumb idea I hope gets squashed.

There’s a barrage of questions on the surveys like “how important are digital codes to you? If future 4K Ultra HD titles didn’t include a digital code, how would that affect your purchase?” (Something to that effect.) They seem to be sniffing around the idea, anyway.

Re: UHD release announcements

The issue with dropping the BD is that often the UHD BD disc is bare-bones, with just the movie and maybe a commentary track as an extra. The bulk of the extras are put/left on the BD.

I wonder if the extras are how Paramount decides to put a BD in or not. Days of Thunder didn't have any extras on its BD release, so there's not a point to including the BD in with the UHD. However, for Top Gun, there's a lot of extras on the BD only, so it's included.

Re: UHD release announcements

That makes sense. I definitely saw that influence the way that Blue Underground approached their early UHD releases.

And we're moving to a period where more and more new UHD discs also include the supplements.

Don't think this was mentioned since it was officially announced - Universal Monsters Icons of Horror (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man)

That’s the big question mark right now. The 4K digital doesn’t have it.

Kinda suprised they left off Bride Of Frankenstein and Creature From The Black Lagoon out of that set. Probably another set coming in the future with those. Milk it for all it is worth!
