Reactivated my Stubs membership and got tickets for this. My vaccines should be at full power, so game on.

Re: UHD release announcements

In a post on Facebook that I haven’t actually tried to track down myself, Nova dropped the UHD idea. They said there isn’t enough of an improvement to justify it. (From the way it’s worded in the quote I saw elsewhere, I can’t tell if they’re saying there’s no real difference in the case of these films or in general.)

Re: UHD release announcements

Sounds like there will be UHD discs, but the SteelBook will only be Blu?

- Regarding the remastering works of director Wong Kar-wai.
We know many people are waiting for director Wong Kar-wai's remastering works. For those of you who are curious, here is the approximate launch plan.
Director Wong Kar-wai's remastering works will be released individually, and the first one will be "In the Mood for Love" Also, it will be released as an exclusive steelbook.
Currently, it is under design confirmation, and future remastering works by Wong Kar-wai's, such as Happy Together and Fallen Angles will be released as exclusive steel books.
When it comes to disc configuration, we've produced Blu-ray discs and UHD discs (including HDR), and there's little difference in quality, so we're going to make it a exclusive steelbook of remastered Blu-ray (1 disc) versions.
(We will announce the quality comparison video later.)
Regarding other package specifications, we will notify you when internal results such as design confirmation are completed.
Thank you to those who are always interested in Nova Media, and we will continue to communicate with you.
Thank you.
Nova Media

Wasn't it announced a while back that Jackson was working on 4k restorations of all his old movies?

Re: UHD release announcements

Not a surprise. I bought several of their special editions and they've all gone 4K, -I'm just not going to buy them again, but that's me.

Re: UHD release announcements

On the upside, this is the last of Blue Underground’s recent 3-disc special editions to get a UHD upgrade, so they’ll be all caught up after this.

So while there are still tons of reissues waiting in the wings, at least they’ll be of movies you bought a long while back instead of the past couple of years.

Re: UHD release announcements

Trailer for the 4K UHD release of Basic Instinct. This promo appears to be for the international release. But Studio Canal is releasing it here as well.

Re: UHD release announcements

This is a promo for Basic Instinct Sex Death and Stone. It’s a new behind the scenes documentary. It aired only in France last year, but according to the Collider report I read it’s also expected to be on the 4K release

Re: UHD release announcements

I bought my first 4K disc 5 years ago today, a new release to video that week. I didn't even realize the format was that old already. I have close to 300 discs today.

My original comment to the post below: "My home theater hobby is entering generation 5...I've collected VHS, Laserdiscs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs by the hundreds over the past 30 years, and now I've just purchased my first Ultra HD 4K disc."

Yup! I think the official launch was March 1st, 2016. I preordered two of the first titles from FoxConnect (a site that no longer exists ) -- The Martian and Fantastic Four -- undeterred by the fact that at the time I didn't have a UHD BD player or a UHD TV. And wouldn't for another year! My collection stands at 264 titles right now.

Re: UHD release announcements

I wasn't reading the 4K reviews and so I didn't realize that most (if not all at that time) came with a blu-ray included. I might have future-proofed (or not). I'm a laser-disc veteran, and I was determined not to get involved with yet another format. But then in February 2019 my ten-year-old workhorse blu-ray player finally bit the dust, and so...

Re: UHD release announcements

It's crazy that UHD will lack a wide swath of important Hollywood films but movies like Martin and Daughters of Darkness get one.

Gees. This one has been neglected for so damn long. I think I still have that excellent DVD release.

IIRC, there was an import BD/HDDVD or something? I’ve seen a HD transfer floating around

I’ve never seen Martin, but I’ve heard about it and it sounds interesting. Might grab it when it’s available.

Re: UHD release announcements

The longstanding rumor is finally panning out (at least in France and Australia)! And listings are also starting to go up for Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. Both are listed with a release date of July 7th.
