Re: UHD release announcements

Is that a Paramount logo on the Almost Famous 4k spine? The current Blu-ray with the Bootleg Cut is a Warner disc. No Bootleg Cut on iTunes or Vudu, which of course came out long after the Blu-ray. That may suggest that the 4k will also be theatrical only.

The 2017 bootleg cut disc has a Paramount logo on the spine too. Paramount handles home distribution for Dreamworks pre-2011 films.

There was a period of time where WB was putting out home media of Paramount titles.

The Bootleg Cut is Crowe's preferred version, so I would put money that is what is on the release. Though, it would be nice to have both since the theatrical isn't on Blu.

Almost Famous is one of my favorite flicks but I can't go back to the theatrical. #ReleaseTheCameronCut

I almost bought Almost Famous on Blu-ray a couple weeks ago. I’m glad I waited.

Eastern Promises one of the more underrated gangster flicks.

The bootleg cut looks WAY better. I'll probably just stick the UHD disc in there.

Re: UHD release announcements

Bought the new Speed 4K disc from Best Buy over the weekend.

yeah it's not cheap at $25. But, it's one of my favorite action films from the 90s and probably unlikely it will drop much cheaper for a long time.

The 4K disc has the movie and the 2 archived audio commentaries from the older releases. The bonus content is all on the BD.

Re: UHD release announcements

I’m pissed that they didn’t remaster the sound, so i just have it on digital. It has all the same stuff as the discs, so I’m fine with that.

Re: UHD release announcements

That steelbook is sweet but my girls are going on 15 & 17. Not sure how much replay I'll get out of it. Might wait this one out until it's cheaper.

Re: UHD release announcements

Almost Famous includes both cuts of the movie.
Amazon Amazon

For the first time in 4K Ultra HD, the Golden Globe Best Motion Picture winner, restored under the supervision of Oscar-winning* writer/director Cameron Crowe. Almost Famous is the semi-autobiographical odyssey of 15-year-old William Miller (Patrick Fugit), whose writing talent and earnest passion for rock music earns him an assignment for Rolling Stone, interviewing and touring with Stillwater (Billy Crudup, Jason Lee). Penny Lane (Kate Hudson) is the young groupie who guides him through the wild world of rock heroes, all-night parties, and the most dangerous intensity of all—love. Featuring both the original theatrical cut and the beloved “Bootleg Cut,” and a motherload of all-new features, this limited-edition Steelbook is a must-have for collectors and rock ’n’ roll fans alike.

Re: UHD release announcements

I haven't watched the livestream (which was a Hasbro fan-fest thing), but someone on blu-ray.com thought they said preorders start Monday. So I'm guessing it won't be a long wait!

Re: UHD release announcements

Yet another copy of Transformers: The Movie I will inevitably buy and be disappointed by. Shout's "4K restored" Blu-ray looked mediocre and sounded terrible. A lot of its issues (especially the sound mix) may be endemic to the movie. I don't hold much hope for any significant improvement in a UHD copy.

Don’t forget the crappy black levels. And yet, I too will buy this new 4K.

Re: UHD release announcements

I have 2 copies of Transformers the movie. The old Sony DVD and the BD release from a few years ago. Not sure I love this movie enough to triple dip.

I have two different DVD versions (found them both cheap) and I recently rewatched the movie for the first time in ages and it just didn't do it for me anymore. I can appreciate the interesting concepts and characters they put into this, but I'm too far out from enjoying Transformers in my youth.

I had the set given to me, but I was wondering when some of those exclusives would finally start getting released on their own.

Too early for the inevitable "why isn't Criterion releasing on UHD" comment?
