4 is just so god awful with amateurish special effects. The 4K is probably just going to make it look even worse.
So dumb that the rights to 4 went to the numbskulls at Cannon Films and they went super cheap on it.

Even Superman IV has potential to look better than that one.

I think in his mind, he was trying to replicate the hazy/"dreamy" style of the original Richard Donner film, which was shot on grainy film stock with a lot of mist filters, as was a popular fad in the 1970s. Unfortunately, digital technology in 2006 did an incredibly poor job at mimicking that.

Anyhoo, Singer screwed up, if emulating Donner was his goal.

Re: UHD release announcements
Except the hazy shots in the Donner flick are mostly in the Krypton scenes. In fact (I really need to revisit the original) wasn't the goal of the '78 flick to give the Krypton, Kansas, and Metropolis sections three distinct looks? I seem to remember that being discussed in one of the special features of the old DVD.

In May Criterion is putting out Thelma and Louise. They’ll also upgrade Wings of Desire and Branded to Kill.

First 4K release with Crunchyroll is Violet Evergarden The Movie. Their first release technically was Akira when it was still under Funimation. Hopefully it does better than Akira (they forgot to include HDR with the initial batches of the LE).

Re: UHD release announcements
Everything on Violet Evergarden is pretty much streaming on Netflix. I would watch at least the TV series before watching Violet Evergarden: The Movie. I wasn't sure if Crunchyroll was going to release The Movie on 4K UHD (it was released on 4K in the UK last year by Anime Limited).

I know Bad Lieutenant is kind of a cult classic, but I think I maybe watched it once and that was enough for me back when it was on VHS. I felt ickey when Harvey Keitel jerked off to two girls when he made that traffic stop.

You know you all want it. A standalone Superman 4 4K release.
This appears to be UK only.

Also, for what it's worth, all home video copies of the original Bad Lieutenant from DVD forward have been missing a rap song on the soundtrack that sampled Led Zeppelin without permission. Jimmy Page was apparently not very happy about that and sued.

The Superman steelbook collection is back up on Amazon. It’s listed at $130
I don’t care about fancy packaging as much as I used to, but this is a really nice looking set. OG artwork on the individual steelbooks.

Looks like the upcoming Superman 5 Film Steelbook Collection is an Amazon exclusive in the US. Can't wait to see all of the pics of mangled packaging due to Amazon sending these out in bubble mailers.

Re: UHD release announcements
Severin has a 5/30/23 preorder up for Peter Greenaway's Drowning by Numbers on 4K UHD, "featuring a new 4K scan from the original negative personally supervised by Greenaway" and an "Audio Commentary With Writer/Director Peter Greenaway."
https://severinfilms.com/collections...-by-numbers-4k
The $40 price is a bit painful, but should still be exciting news for fans. Peter Greenaway has always had Bad Video Karma. Very few of his movies (and none of the major ones) are available on Blu-ray or high-definition. Half of them didn't even get released on DVD, and the ones that did were mostly poor quality. To see one jump into 4K UHD is kind of a big deal.
I wouldn't say this is Greenaway's best movie, but it's a more accessible work than a lot of his later efforts where he let his pompousness and pretentiousness get the better of him.

Re: UHD release announcements
Is the international version the same as the director’s cut of Blackhat that aired on FX several years ago?
