Sony's press site lists The Bridge on the River Kwai as an October 3rd release.

I am as well, I haven't bought any of them yet in 4k and this would be a nice set around Christmas time.

It's very cool to see these older films get the 4K treatment. If done right, they should look phenomenal.

The proper phrasing is... "It's about time".

I actually have the 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition...so I'm not sure what I want to do with this.

I have Hubs I could affix somewhere but looking at the picture, I don't think there is anywhere reasonable to do so. I'll take a look when I get home but Blu-Ray might be good enough and while I like the film a lot, it's not a top 20 where I would be ok with multiple copies of the movie. (and I wouldn't want to give up that ultimate edition)

Some Universal titles coming on 10/17. Serenity, Apollo 13, and Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Damn, Fox is already double dipping on 4K titles. Kingsman "Premium Edition." Doesn't look like anything content related though, just bonus shit that comes in the box.

We've seen double-dipping on every format. UHD will be no different. Considering some of the issues with some early UHDs, I expect we get a rash of double-dips.

They will all be rereleased eventually with Atmos and Dolby Vision. I'm betting on The Martian to be the first title released 3 times on UHD.

Re: UHD release announcements

Groundhog Day is a temporary Best Buy exclusive, arriving sometime in January.

We should be seeing much of Christopher Nolan's filmography -- the three Bat-flicks and Interstellar -- in December.

I have a DVD only of that one. I do like to revisit that title so that may be a good upgrade.

Groundhog Day is not something that screams out "4K upgrade!" to me.

Re: UHD release announcements

According to The Digital Bits, the various Transformers movies will be released in 4K on 12/5. I got rid of 2 and 3, never bought 4 or 5. I would upgrade my HD DVD of 1 to 4K though. If it looks and sounds half as good as my recent upgrades of Serenity and The Mummy, it will be well worth it.

Harry Potter collection on 11/7. Comes out to about $19 a movie. Not crazy, but will probably be on sale by Christmas.

No Wizard’s box? No 3D? Nice we’re getting the extended’s of 1 and 2 though. I didn’t have high hopes it was going to be remastered.

sure they are flawed, but I'm looking forward to seeing these in 4K and the new Atmos mixes, but I'm plunking down my money til I know what the deal is with the IMAX aspect ratio retention for 2 and 5

That’s what the back cover says from the picture on Amazon.

Re: UHD release announcements

Unless I'm missing something, on the back of the box it does say that the extended version is Blu Ray ONLY for both movies. So it sounds like the 4K versions are the regular versions.

Yep, that's exactly how I read it as well. While I'm digging this set, I'm thinking the best thing to do is wait until it comes down in price. I have the digital, I have the very nice blu-ray limited (& numbered) box set from the UK, I'm okay for a while (I'm thinking around $75 will be my price point).
