re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

The Criterion LD of Breaking the Waves was the only place to see the international version of the film with the original music, right? It been a long time but I think in the American version they substituted Elton John's Your Song when Von Trier wanted to use Bowie's Life on Mars but couldn't get the rights or something.

Anyway, I wonder what version we'll get on the blu.

I'm pretty sure the LD used The Elton John song.

Showing all 2 items
Breaking the Waves (1996)

Alternate Versions

- The director's cut of the film, featuring explicit shots removed from the U.S. version for ratings purposes, is available on Criterion laserdisc. (a close up of Stellan Skarsgards weiner)

- In the home video release of the film, the 8th chapter card is accompanied by Elton John's "Your Song", but in the theatrical release, that chapter card was accompanied by David Bowie's "Life On Mars". Most recent video releases (such as the Fox UK Region 2 DVD) use "Life On Mars."

There is a Region 0 Danish dvd released in 2003 that has the uncensored film & Bowie's Life on Mars on the last inter-title.
It has some of the same special features as the upcoming Criterion Blu-ray.
The Criterion LD even though the film was uncensored, had the Elton John song.

criterion really needs to have this listed as a selling point when bullet pointing the bonus material.

My point was that it could be both movies.

Aquatic was my first thought, but then the other movie was mentioned.

I watched it years ago before DVD and this seems more likely, btw Tie is on NFS if you want to check it out.

It's the only one not on blu-ray.

One of my least favorites of his, but I am hoping for it to be put on blu-ray soon.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Well, I guess I can be happy either way. Atame! (Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down) is one of my two most-wanted movies on Blu-ray, so if that's what this hint is, I'll be over the moon. On the other hand, if it's The Life Aquatic, it'll bring Wes Anderson up to speed on Criterion and we'll finally have some sweet relief from people speculating and pondering about the next Wes Anderson release.

So, one way, a release-of-the-year for me and, the other way, the comforting knowledge that Criterion can finally move along to more interesting things... such as... Atame!

Don't worry, they'll still pine for Moonrise Kingdom.

You're right that IS the bath toy known as Scuba Steve from the all-time Adam Sandler classic "Big Daddy".
