Do you organize your titles by director?

It's 3 discs - they can't fit 3 discs in a standard case. Whatever though, I like digipacks.

Sure they could, with an extra tray in spine. But, I'm like you: whatever, though.

I mostly dislike that their new dual-format releases digipaks are even bigger than their already too big regular digipaks.

No, with their thicker than average booklets, there wouldn't be room for both a booklet and a tray in there.

Sad Criterion needs to toss in a DVD just to appease retailers. Once they stop carrying discs and we can only get them through the website I hope they drop it (along with the price)

And before anyone links me to Criterion and their "explanation" for the DVD, I don't buy it.

Fantastic.

That will probably be the last catalog title I buy from Criterion. That wraps up Anderson for me (unless they release Moonrise Kingdom).

So when are they going to announce a Wes Anderson boxed set?

I get where they are coming from, but with blu-ray players being so cheap there really isn't an excuse not to get one, especially if you are the kind of movie lover that Criterion caters to. As highly pretentious as this is going to sound I feel like they should do away with DVDs in order to not encourage obsolete viewing experiences :P

the problem is blu players are not as prevalent in portable systems, and i would prefer my kids watch Certified Copy and Wings of Desire than Daniel Tiger in the back of the mini van. so i do kinda support the continued DVD thing.

They still stick DVD players in cars? Everyone I've seen gives their kid a tablet. No need to have multiple discs when one can load tons if TV and Movies on it.

You guys know he's not dead, right?

In fact, I hear his next movie is his best one yet.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I'm pretty sure every Anderson film will wind up in the collection eventually. The only question will be whether they are released as day-one Criterions like "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Life Aquatic" or follow a couple years after the vanilla studio release like all the rest.

And I think he could probably even get a Criterion out of a non-Criterion studio in the future provided he squared that away during the initial contractual phase.

But yeah, this eliminates the Wes Anderson backlog at least and now only his most recent film remains, which will almost always be the case so long as he's am active filmmaker.

Well, Moonrise Kingdom is still missing even though many here assumed it would follow a few months after the initial release. I didn't and bought it day one.

Same. I don't need to own it right this second, so I am more than content to wait for the Criterion version.

I know the announcements sorta got leaked already, but aren't they usually out by now?
