Anyone know what Criterion's relationship with Lionsgate is? I just sent them an email recommending Paris is Burning for a release... Wondering how possible that would be.

What was the issue? Were there behind the scenes shots that showed her in a bad light?

About Prince of Tides, all of this is from this thread at the HTF:

Criterion says:
But someone on the forum says:

Criterion says:
Doogan: ...Does Criterion still have stuff in the vault that's never been released but has been mastered, special-editioned and, in the long run, you couldn't do anything with it?
Becker: No. The closest to that was The Prince of Tides. With the problems we had many years ago on the laserdisc. That was simply a matter of Barbra Streisand quite rightly having found some typographical errors in the supplement and thinking better of a couple comments on the commentary track and asking us to change it, which we laboriously did over the course of a year-and-a-half. It lead to some delays, but in the end was more or less the identical disc to the one that we had originally produced with a couple of errors corrected and one or two (not terrifically significantly) comments lost from the commentary track.

In what turned out to be a very costly problem for Criterion, Barbra Streisand had COMPLETE control of the LD, and had final approval. The entire project met with her approval every step of the way, and the disc was pressed. But when a copy was given to Streisand for the final sign off, she refused to give it — she was very unhappy with the way she sounded in her commentary track, and wanted to do it over. There were also a few minor items in the supplementary material she wished to revise. And since she had final approval and creative control over the LD, Criterion had no choice but to follow her instructions and start work on revising the LD.

I've heard behind the scenes stories about her changing stuff constantly, and then deciding to can the release. That's about it. Maybe we'll find out more one of the days...
*Doh, sorry, Flansered's post just about covers it.

I dunno. Maybe she's just a bitch?
Personally though I've never gotten what made her an awesome actress.

Is it possible the image interpreted as Ringu/Macbeth could represent The Brood?
Regarding the jazz musicians... would anyone see Criterion treatment given to The Cotton Club? They did release Heavens Gate, another high-profile flop.
Regarding the angels... since they already released Wings of Desire, would they be releasing Wenders' sequel Faraway, So Close?
It's a good thing The Fury was already released on BD by Twilight Time, otherwise I'd start to wonder if the exploding head was for that instead of Scanners.

Anyone know whether (or why not) Scorcese's World Cinema Project will be sold by Barnes and Noble. Never saw it in any of their stores and not listed by bn.com either.

It doesn't look that big from the shot taken by the reviewer here. It looks similar in size to the America Lost and Found set. It's tiny compared to the Zatoichi set.

And yet I paid less for my Zatoichi set of 26 movies than what this set of 6 movies is going for now. I have to say, I was interested in this due to Scorsese's involvement, but reading up on the films, whether they're good or not, they don't seem all too interesting to me.

Presumably because Zatoichi was on sale and had a coupon. The World Cinema set is not on sale yet - but during the next sale, it will be as cheap even without a coupon... I'm waiting patiently!

I got the Scorsese set from Amazon about 2 weeks ago for $65.00. That's only $2.50 more than half off so I jumped on it and I'm glad I did.
The movies are very obscure but very rewarding, especially from a cultural viewpoint. I've watched 4 of them so far and my favorite is A River Called Titas.

Does anyone know why Breathless was released again when both the DVD and blu-ray versions were already released? Was anything new added as supplements?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's one of their more popular titles, so I would assume they needed to do a repress and seeing as how their whole idea behind the combo packs is cost effectiveness, I would imagine once a pressing of a movie sells out from now on it will be repressed in a combo pack. Maybe not though, just an educated guess.
