How you watch your film is up to you. I'm not asking questions .If you cannot watch your assigned film for financial reasons (some are rental only) or just really don't want to spend $3 for a shot at winning some Blu-rays, let me know and I'll assign you another film (likely not from the previously-posted list). I cannot legally obligate you to spend money on this and I also ethically won't do it.

P.S. Streaming Platforms are as of August 30th. I don't know what will change in Spetember, but you can always take a look at https://www.justwatch.com/

You always "do it right" and I certainly didn't mean to imply otherwise! The conversation in this thread -- and what I've seen in the previous years' data -- clearly show that everyone approaches the checklist differently, so of course there's never going to be a way to make it simultaneously fit every single person's Platonic ideal of the OHMC checklist. BUT it's totally optional, clearly a labor of love, allows for a great deal of flexibility, and (I think) is always fun -- even when I'm cursing at some of the choices I personally make myself face.

That said, there is more time for it this year, so cheers to taking it slower!

In case you missed it: To win one of the IB prize packs this year, you must watch a randomly assigned horror movie (see page 2 of this thread) during the month of September and let me know when you've done so. Once this is completed, you will be entered to win and I'll send out the prizes mid-October.

P.S. I have already done the picks for those listed above and 5 of you are "taking the bullet". Quite a few repeats, as well.
I'm stoked! Even if I have to take a bullet!

Darth Maher-----The Thing 1982 (40th Anniversary)
Oh hell yeah! I've been meaning to watch this again for the longest time. I might splurge and get the 4K UHD just for the occasion. If not, I always have the pre-SF Blu-ray. It may not be the best PQ presentation, but it will do in a pinch.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 18: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

IBJoel, did you mean to have two people watch Witchboard? The reason I ask is it appears everyone has a different film and both Shellebelle (right before me) and I have Witchboard.

I didn't know if maybe mine or Shellebelle's got typed incorrectly. No big deal but just checking. I don't mind taking a different movie if needed as I watched Witchboard not too long ago but whatever you choose is fine. Thanks!

A few people have repeats, yes (28 Days Later and Species II are also on there a few times). Such is the nature of random selection! I actually did set a limit of a max of one repeat per film, because I pressed the button and got 28 Days Later like 5 or 6 times. Given that you asked nicely, I am not opposed if you want to watch Witchboard 2 or 3. I feel that those are keeping in the spirit of the game and specifically your selection.

Awesome. Thank you, sir. I may try out 2 or 3 since I watched #1 not too long ago!

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 18: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I've slowing been adding some more assigned dates...

  • Folk horror with the release of Jennifer Thorne's folk horror novel "Lute" on 10/4.

  • Found Footage got a good one on 10/7 with The Found Footage Festival.

  • Body horror with the release of Rob Ulitski's body horror novel "Fleshed Out" on 10/13, although that one might be switched to Giallo for the premiere of Argento's new film.

  • The birthday of Emma Stoned for Sleazoid on 10/14.

  • House of Psychotic Women was assigned to 10/29 (as late as I could go) with RedBubble reviews of the poster of the 1974 film of the same name. Hopefully that'll give those buying the Severin set or individual Blu-ray adequate time for it to arrive.

And a few more.

If anyone wants to go down the rabbit hole with me of finding these links, well, please share your finds. Or let me know if you want something moved to a different date.

EDIT: The themes/subsets not yet assigned a date as of this posting are Telephone, Psychological, J&B, Slashers, Regional, Writers, Random, Anthologies, Zombies, Supernatural, Giallo (unless I use Argento's film, which frees up Body once again), Chrono and Flashback.

Couple of ideas…

Random: - National Sausage Pizza Day is 10/11

https://nationaldaycalendar.com/nati...ay-october-11/

J&B: - (More subset-related, than theme) - National Chucky the Notorious Killer Doll Day is 10/25

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 18: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

The September movie that I was assigned was The Fog, and I watched it with a friend last night. It was actually kind of emotional. One of my best friends died very unexpectedly in May. She was a big horror nut. She even signed up for the challenge one year but wasn't disciplined enough to keep a list. She would tell me she would just talk to me about the movies she watched, but she was always excited every year for the challenge for me and participated with me a few years when she lived in the city or came to visit.

Anyway, The Fog was a sentimental favorite of hers. My friend worked as a radio DJ, so you can understand why this one held a special little place for her. If anyone lived in South Texas in the last 20 years, you might have heard her. Her biggest job was on KISS, the rock station in San Antonio. I've been thinking of her a lot lately as we get closer to October. Halloween was her favorite holiday. It's really tough approaching the first October without her, but this was a fitting tribute for her before the challenge kicks off proper.

Aw, thanks!

Often I suggest a movie I've heard about but haven't seen, or one I saw a long time ago and could revisit (The HK Cat III was the former; Trouble Every Day is the latter).
