Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Criterions, Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc.
Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order

Return period is 14 days after delivery though possibly it's 30 days now for most people though there is a discrepancy b/w the receipt and website.
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept

Single Item 15% OFF, but should be reusable in different transaction and if the Clerks will scan it more than once.

^ Shouldn't take more than a day. It can also take an additional day or two before you can use it in store (without a supervisor exception at least).

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

I could not get the 50% off to work with the B2G1 promotion. I had three 39.99 Criterions. The clerk applied the 50% coupon to one of these, which reduced it to 17.99 (after 10% member discount). The system then gave me this $17.99 disc as my free item (lowest priced item). So basically the 50% coupon would have been wasted, so I opted to just purchase a single Eclipse set for half off.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is the clerk inputting the codes in the "wrong" order? I didn't want to press him since the coupon terms do state it is not to be combined with other offers.

Would it be better to get a membership in store?

Is there any reason they could deny me on that simple preorder?

If I get lucky and can add in anything else with other coupons, that'll be a bonus, but since my nearest B&N store is almost a 10 mile round trip, I don't want to go there unless I'm 100% certain I can at least get the above deal.
I can't believe you are complaining about a 10 mile round trip. I doubt many of us live within 5 miles of a B&N. I don't. It's a 25 mile round trip for me. But I don't consider 35 minutes of driving and a gallon + of gas to be all that bad considering the savings.

I know you want a guarantee but no one can give it to you. When you attempt to use coupons on ship to home- especially ship to home pre-orders- it's always YMMV. The only way to know is to try. I, and others, have done it so I would say your odds are pretty good.

And the Star Wars: Complete Saga BD is 89.59 online so your cost with the 50% coupon would be 44.79 plus tax. And it doesn't matter if you are a member; there's no member discount on ship to home orders.

I was afraid that might happen to me which is why my strategy is to find one item that is about twice the price (or slightly more) than the other two items I want. That way when the 50% is taken off the expensive one it's still at or slightly above the price of the other two. As an example: on my order last night I bought one item that was $63 before coupons and member discounts and 2 that were about $27. After the coupon and discount on the higher priced item it was still a bit more than the others.

^^

40 mile round trip for my closest location and 50 miles for the other. Living in CT, I'm used to long drives.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

I asked them yesterday about the B2G1 in combination with a ship-to-home order and they didn't think it would work. I'm going to go again tonight and try again. Hoping to get Doctor Who: The Complete Specials, Doctor Who: The E-Space Trilogy, and Doctor Who: Beneath The Surface (the ship-to-home item) and use the 10% Membership Discount, 50% Off Coupon, and one of the $8 Off Member Coupons.

Hopefully it works, because it would bring it to a total of $52.74, which is only $17.58 each. For those who have successfully had a ship-to-home item combined with the B2G1 deal, what exactly did you say or ask the clerk to get them to do it?

---

I feel bad for everyone having to drive so far to get to a Barnes & Noble. That used to be me, but since I moved I can actually just walk to the closest one...only takes about 5 minutes, lol.

You must have had a clerk that didn't know what they were doing. I purchased three $49.99 DVDs today and my purchase went through fine with two 50% coupons applied. Two of the $49.99 were half off and one $49.99 was free.

If you want to use the membership right away at a store without any hassles it might be the best option. Also if you decide later you don't want the membership you could cancel it if it's within 30 days. However you would have to cancel it at the store it was purchased to get a refund.

You're saying I could just go back after this sale is over, cancel the membership, get a refund, and that's it? I'm not going to do this because not having a membership has actually been to my detriment with all of the sales popping up this past year, but it's pretty interesting you could just cancel it without having to pay the difference on stuff you bought with the membership.

It's the clerk's fault, but you can "help" the process. Let them scan all 3 items and process the free one BEFORE you present your coupon. I usually keep it in my pocket, then say "oh, I almost forgot, I have a coupon." Then the transaction will ring up properly. The coupon needs to occur last.

At my store, they said all 3 items had to be Ship to Home in order to do B2G1F, but others haven't had that problem. It is definitely YMMV though. Also, keep in mind that anything Ship to Home does not get the 10% member discount.

Yep! I did this last year, after B&N.com customer service pissed me off. I had just purchased a membership two weeks prior, and they canceled one of my orders and refused to reinstate it. So I returned my membership and got my money back, no questions asked. Ever since then I have refused to pay for a membership, but I'm on my 2nd free two-month trial...

Good call.

Picked up The Red Shoes and placed orders for 127 Hours and The Walking Dead S.1.

You should have asked for a manager. You still coulda gotten shot down, but you never know what the manager might do. My clerk didn't think he could, but he called the manager, who said it was OK.

The Cary, NC store where I've had such great luck with coupon usage during the BBC 1/2 off and Criterion sales wouldn't let me stack any of the coupons with the B2G1, nor could I use the 50% + $5 off. I had some items to return, so it wasn't a wasted trip. Used my credit and got Once Upon a Time in America and A Star is Born at 1/2 off. --Peter

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Hit a minor snag today. They are now enforcing the once per customer rule on the coupon. If they scan your membership card you can only get the membership benefits on one of the 50% off coupons and not both. This is important if you are doing those ship to home orders and the amount ends up being less than $25. You end up having to pay $4 for shipping. I still ended up being able to use both coupons.

Pre ordered Meserine Public Enemy #1 Part 2 for $15.62. Got Love Actually for less than $10.

I think I'm finished with this as there are only 2 Barnes and Nobles near me and it takes me at least a few hours to get to one (don't have a car and have to rely on public transportation) and I'm sort of playing Russian Roulette as I'm praying that there is a different CSR on staff.

I think the one I went to today 90% of their DVD/CD CSR's saw me using the coupon. So chances of me being able to use that one are slim. The other BN is even farther away and I'd only be using that to blind buy/preorder Santa Sangre. Is that film worth it?

Intriguing... What did you buy, and what coupons did you use? I'm assuming you bought something expensive, so used a 50% off, and the $5 off $50? I'm warming up right now, getting limber for the bow...

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

It's funny to hear the distances people are traveling. I have to go 50 minutes (about 41 miles) each way. It's still worth it with these prices, especially since I have a ton of gift cards to burn from the mastercard promos in December. Well, I had a ton. They're almost gone now.

Anyway, I headed back today and got a cashier who would apply two coupons. She didn't even hesitate. Yesterday, there was turbulence. I picked up Army of Shadows, Winter's Bone and Sin City for about $27.

I really wish someone would find the 50% off online codes. That would be awesome... I think someone in here said they got 30% off, but they didn't post the code.
