Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

At the risk of turning this into one of those old Deep Discount, "when's it going to happen" kinda responses, but while I've been looking forward to this sale, I've had a financial setback that might limit my funds, so I have to ask, because my memory is seriously crap: B&N do have these sales twice a year, usually, right? If so, I might have to hit it up next year, but I wanna make sure.

Thanks for any response!

Well, they just started last year, and had July and November. So that really isn't even data to know for sure. I don't think we had official-official word of this sale happening until just a few weeks ago.

No guarantees, but we're all hopeful! But to be safe, just take out a loan.

Hahaha! Oh, thanks for the response, and the laugh too; been a rough week.

Is $21.5 a good/best price for the Complete Monterey Pop festival BR for members? I'm thinking $70 * 0.5 * 0.9 - $5 DVD coupon - $5 over $50 coupon = $21.5.

You'll need to add an item to your order to get the over $50 to work. I usually net out at $26.50 on the $70 titles.

Ahh, I see. That makes sense. I simply assumed that the $5 off $50 coupon was also on the before discount price like the other ones. My mistake. I'm guessing the way to maximize this is to pair it with an expensive CD so that you can use the $5 off CD and $5 off $50 coupon.

Yes, indeed. You can rack 'em and stack 'em that way. I believe LASERMOVIES and maybe Trevor have maximized their value with that strategy.

I guess my only problem is that I'd actually have to be over $60 to apply the $5 off $50 coupon with the other two $5 off CD/DVD coupons because the $5 off $50 is after all discounts. I can't find any CD(s) that expensive that I actually want. Even with the Monterey Pop BR, that's about $15 a CD to get to $60. After discount, that's still $10. My price point for buying CDs is around $5.

BTW, how particular are the cashiers about ensuring that you are exactly over $10? I'm eyeing the Living Stereo SACDs at $9.99 minus a $5 coupon if possible.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Well, it's always YMMV with these sales, but most on here have been successful with $19.99 titles counting as "$20", so you should be alright with $9.99 CDs counting as "$10".

Oh my, B&N here I come. My spend estimate just went up from 1 online order to pillaging pretty much their entire Criterion BR and Living Stereo SACD selection in store. Hopefully, they won't give me trouble about multiple coupons. First timer here where B&N is concerned so pardon the many questions.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

^No problem. This sale has been tremendously beneficial for me and a lot of others on here in building our own "Criterion Collection". Heck, at $13 per, I have no problem blind buying titles I otherwise would not have at a higher price-point. Discovered some great films this way.

BTW, all credit to LASERMOVIES who does a fantastic job of keeping the first post of this thread up-to-date with all deals and coupons at B&N.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

It looks like they just disabled the AAA and library link 10% off discounts when you do the B2G1 sale.

The 10% off shows up on the first 2 items you add to your cart and then when you add the 3rd item the 10% is disabled on all items and it only gives you the 1 item free.

Suck.

Looks like I'll have to use Bing instead. I can only get 8% cashback from there although the store link says 8-10%. Anyone able to get 10 somehow?

If we get a 20% coupon during the sale it's pretty close

$40 msrp
- 50% = $20
- 10% = $18
- 20% = $14.40

If you buy 4 items to get the total to $50, the $5 transaction coupon can be played. Unless you're lucky and can use the two different $5 off DVD coupons and two different 15-20$ off coupons, the $50 purchases are slightly more expensive than just buying every title separately at $13 each. But depending on how many titles you want and how many separate trips you want to make, it may be best to just buy 4 at a time and use as few as two coupons per transaction.

Actually, in every store I've been and on-line they do it this way:

$40 msrp
- 50% = $20
- $5 coupon = $15
- 10% member discount = $13.50

$30 msrp
- 50% = $15
- $5 coupon = $10
- 10% member discount = $8.50

Member discount was always after the coupons. it's a 50 cent difference, and I sure as hell never complained....but folks should expect it.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Not everyone has success with getting them to accept a $5 off coupon on even a Criterion that retails for $39.99 because some cashiers interpret the terms to their individual satisfaction or consult with managers who tend to be notoriously fickle...i.e. "Must sell for $20 or more before $5 coupon can be applied". I give up and go on to a more accommodating location.

8% Bing on all three titles (you get 8% of retail on the free title iirc) is better than 10% off two titles.

You're right, I brainfarted. I knew it looked slightly wrong.....

I've ran into that once or twice, but just point out the fine print about "before discounts" and they always take my coupons.

Just the opposite here; at the 5 stores I visit, the $40 titles always ring up at $13.00 + sales tax.

That's been my experience at every store I visited. They were $13 before tax. They deduct the 50% discount, followed by the 10% member discount, and the $5 coupon.

Since when does it work this way online? Unless I'm grossly mistaken you can't apply the coupons for online purchases in the way you describe.

You can use the $5 coupon trilogy once online. It may have to match the exact terms written, per the dates of your membership, but it will work.

Pleased to see there are a few regular coupons that will stack with AAA memberships. Just tested one of those 10% ones and it stacks with AAA, yielding close to 20% off the price of the most expensive item in the cart. Hopefully that still works when the sale begins.

There are three 10% non-member coupons on the list that should work at AAA and other bookstore links, so when the sale starts there should be several coupons you can use since they are valid for another week. The problem coupons that are not stacking are primarily three that B&N has been issuing on a weekly basis. I added my own fine print on the coupon list for the codes that will not stack with the links to hopefully make it easier to tell them apart from the ones that do work. Coupons without the added disclaimer should be okay with the links.

So...what's the best possible sale price considering any/all possible current discounts for the Rossellini War Trilogy with membership. Assume there may not be a new 20% (or was it 25%) off coupon like last time.

Yeah, I avoided the ones with the disclaimer. Thanks for putting that into the coupon listings. Very helpful.

That reminds me, I know you're not doing this for the kudos laser, but you do an amazing job maintaining this thread.

There are dozens of threads here at DVDTalk where regular members volunteer their time to provide info to help out the entire forum, and your's is perhaps the nicest in terms of overall utility, appearance, ease of use, and timely updating.

You, lasermovies, are a frigging rockstar.

Yep, I'm aware of and have done that as well. Just was hoping I missed something that let you apply the coupons online just like we have been able to in the store and not just a one shot deal.
