Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Man, I was such a fool not getting a membership earlier and when last night, not trying to use both coupons. I went in tonight and luckily it was a different cashier and did pretty well.
I was able to use both the Member and Non-Member 50% Off Coupons. I got Doctor Who: Beneath The Surface (10% Off, 50% Off, Shipped-to-Home), Doctor Who: The Complete Specials (10% Off, 10% Off, 50% off), and Doctor Who: The E-Space Trilogy (Free). The total came out to $50.54, making them all $16.85 each. She even tried scanning the $8 Off coupon, but the computer didn't accept it.
It depresses me thinking how much more money I could've saved if I had just got the Membership on Day 1. Although, some of the other cashiers were hesitant about the coupons, so there's no guarantee they would've accepted all of them.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Anyone know a way around this? The closest Barnes and Noble to me is considered a college one. Surprisingly they take normal Barnes and Noble coupons but had difficulty processing this one because it is a surprise coupon (so they don't know what the percent off is even though I know what it is). Anyway around this. I wanna partake in the deal but this is the only B&N who has DVD's I can get too.

Was this possibly just an employee that didn't now what they were doing? I don't have any idea but you might be out of luck if they can't scan the coupon. Technically the fine print does say it is not valid at B&N college bookstores. The other store coupons say the same thing even though you mention they accept some of the regular ones. Can they order DVDs? Maybe a ship to home order would go through.

Guy sounded like he knew what he was doing. They aren't suppose to take these coupons but do by overriding and giving the person a discount from a BN coupon. They never scan the coupon rather just give you the percentage off of the coupon. I guess they do it that way cause scanning the coupon won't work he says. I don't doubt him cause it says on the coupon you can't use it there. Looks like I'm making a trip to NYC tomorrow and hitting up some B&N there.

Yea I mean I understand why he didn't take it, I'm trying to think of ays around it. I'm kind of interested to see if they would call another Barnes and Noble and tell them to type in the code. Wonder if they would do that over the phone.

Whew. Well, once again trying to navigate B&N's coupons/sales/discounts/etc. have made me wish I paid more attention in Miss Linsky's 6th grade math class. Anyway, went to the store last night and picked up:
HUMPHREY BOGART SIGNATURE COLLECTION VOL. 2 (long OOP!): $20.00.
10% sticker/10% member/50% coupon/$5 coupon
HUMPHREY BOGART SIGNATURE COLLECTION VOL. 2 (long OOP!): $20.00.
10% sticker/10% member/50% coupon/$5 coupon

Was the cashier your girlfriend? Or, if you're really a Professor, perhaps it was one of your students sucking up for a good grade?

You're saying I could just go back after this sale is over, cancel the membership, get a refund, and that's it? I'm not going to do this because not having a membership has actually been to my detriment with all of the sales popping up this past year, but it's pretty interesting you could just cancel it without having to pay the difference on stuff you bought with the membership.
Some states (including mine) have laws in place to protect consumers from unscrupulous merchants such as health clubs that promise much but don't deliver and then don't let you get your paid-up-front membership fee back or ... remember the days of of mom & pop video stores that charged "lifetime" membership fees when they really were talking about their lifetime, not yours?
So, for consumers to now take advantage of laws put in place to protect them or just merchants 'doing the right thing' is ... well hopefully 'nuff said.

I returned mine out of spite. I hope that's a good enough reason. I know Jerry couldn't return his suit for that reason, but dammit that's why I returned my membership...

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I can't believe you are complaining about a 10 mile round trip. I doubt many of us live within 5 miles of a B&N. I don't. It's a 25 mile round trip for me. But I don't consider 35 minutes of driving and a gallon + of gas to be all that bad considering the savings.
I know you want a guarantee but no one can give it to you. When you attempt to use coupons on ship to home- especially ship to home pre-orders- it's always YMMV. The only way to know is to try. I, and others, have done it so I would say your odds are pretty good.
And the Star Wars: Complete Saga BD is 89.59 online so your cost with the 50% coupon would be 44.79 plus tax. And it doesn't matter if you are a member; there's no member discount on ship to home orders.

Regarding the 10 mile round trip, the reason I complain about it is I HATE driving (especially when the trip ends up being a waste). I have a psychological problem with driving (and you may be thinking I have others as well), so I try to minimize it. Did you ever see the Goofy short about Mr. Wilson and Mr. Wheeler? While I'm nowhere near as bad as that of course, driving has a noticeable negative effect on me.
Depending how my day goes today I may give it a try (as it's the last day for the coupons) since it seems I have maybe a 75% chance of success.

and we got into a long conversation about films. By the time she rang me up, she was really in good spirits and didn't think there was any problem in applying both the 50% off and then $5 off of $20 coupon. The BOGART set sold for $60 and I got it for $20 (including tax!) and even though it's OOP and selling for much, much more online, I am not going to flip it. I actually want it in my collection and was happy that all the chances I had to previously buy it, at $40 plus!, all fell through.
And being a gentleman, I bow back to your own couponal (?) triumphs during this latest maze of B&N discounting.

Hopefully another reason you wouldn't do that is: to plan on cancelling a membership (in advance) would be unscrupulous.

heads up on the 50% off coupon, some people on slickdeals have been saying that the code is not ringing up at 50% automatically and that they are getting the other random amounts. Seems like this one is dead or close to it.

Got shot down with the two coupons attempt today in store. I did use it to get 50% off on one title though, a criterion blu for $16.19 plus tax. Well, it was a good run these past few days.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before in the thread, but one of the sales clerks told me that the B2G1 deal ends tomorrow. They could be wrong, but figured I'd give everyone a heads up just in case.

I just got back from 3 BN's, usually doing two purchases at each (one in the DVD/music dept., one at the front to buy a book or boardgame). Didn't have any problems with any of my 50% coupons -- they all rang up correctly, both member and non-member.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I went to three different Barnes and Noble's and got shot down trying to stack the coupons. Really sucked. Also the mystery member coupon which was suppose to be 50% gave me 30% (barcode starting with 1). I ended up with Black Dynamite, Broadcast News and Social Network for a little over $40 which is great. Plus I got Kick Ass and Almost Famous from Best Buy for $27. Good haul just wish one of the three stores I went to would stack the coupons (even if it was a 50% and a 30%). I think they may have gotten wise to it.

was only allowed one coupon w/ Cronos, Bridge on the River Kwai, and Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest last night - but he took it off Cronos and gave me Girl free for around $50 total. not an OMGBBQ!!!!!!!!! deal, but decent nonetheless.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Thanks. To summarize, Star Wars Complete Saga BD is something that is in their system for preorder ship-to-home because others have done it, so my worst case scenario (as a non-member) if I go to the store today is I should be able to preorder it via ship-to-home with the 50% off coupon (501691) for $49.99 + tax (no shipping charge)? Is there any reason they could deny me on that simple preorder?
If I get lucky and can add in anything else with other coupons, that'll be a bonus, but since my nearest B&N store is almost a 10 mile round trip, I don't want to go there unless I'm 100% certain I can at least get the above deal.
