My daughter's switch just got the lines of death on the screen so I guess I'll be rotating switches through the family.

The analog sticks on my OLED have worn down quite a bit. I doubt I'd be able to sell it for much, so I'd probably keep it around.

Why not just send it into Nintendo for replacement? That reminds me I need to send a bunch of joycons in.

I could. I don't use them, though. Never went back after I got the Hori split pad compact.

I'll be giving my Splatoon 3 OLED model to my son, who only has a Switch Lite that he clearly loathes -- he plays mine all the time whenever he's home.
As far as what we do with the Switch Lite? Probably donate it or something. Maybe one of my employees might want it for their kid?

I guess I'll sell or trade mine in, but there's something about the Switch where I feel differently about doing that, despite that being somewhat standard practice for consoles where the successor has backwards compatibility (traded in my PS4 and PS4 Pro, gave my Xbox One and Xbox One X to family, have my PS5 ready to trade-in despite dragging my feet on actually doing it). I can't really make a case for keeping it, but...I dunno.

I have every single Nintendo console except for the one (guess which one lol) so they can pry my OG Switch from my cold dead hands.

Wait....aren't you the one that passed on the bundle to pay $30 extra for MK to have the physical copy?

I am!

I keep my “unique” consoles, but if a successor can play a previous console’s games, I don’t mind trading in or giving away the old hardware.

Still available on Walmart, if anyone is still looking for a preorder. Even the Mario Kart bundle.

 We collectors are a weird bunch. Definitely keeping my old Switch. Especially since I've managed to somehow only buy one Switch. I might keep mine hooked up actually. We'll see I guess if there's a reason. Or maybe just have it charging in the dock not hooked up to the TV and exclusively as a handheld.

I know I'll get flamed for this but will eShop gift cards still work when SW2 comes out? thx.

Yes.

But no flames. It's not without precedent that Nintendo arbitrarily change their digital currency. They did just that when moving from Wii Points. One of the reasons I still don't fully trust them with digital content.

Vouchers will not work on Switch 2 games though

Yeah, I never upgraded from my launch Switch until now either. Talking through it with my wife today, we're going to hold onto the OG Switch, at least for a while. And we might even hold onto the duplicate preorder as a gift for our nephews.

^ that's why if I got invite, I would have wanted to give it away. I didn't want it to go to waste and would have loved another here get it if they wanted. but as pointed out can't even do that and unlikely for me to get an invite with such short time with the system.

it's too bad you can't use the Wavebird for the SW2 GameCube games. i don't think i have even ever used the regular GC controller. Always Wavebird, i believe. I still have an active one and would have been so cool to have been able to use. i'll just deal with the Pro 2. i so hope they get Eternal Darkness online eventually. would love to play with today's console. feels so clunky on the GC.

Will the old USB adapter from the Wii U days work? I used that with my Wavebird on the Wii U and (unless I’m completely misremembering) the Switch.

Works with the Wavebird. Presumably it will work with the Switch 2 as well.

And apparently Oldboy isn't the only one with a buying problem. Amazon says that I bought this back in 2017. I have zero memory of that and have no idea where it is.

Of course Nintendo makes it as hard and complicated as possible to transfer your Switch data over to a Switch 2. But at least it's possible

Isn't that just if you get rid of your Switch before you get the new one? Seems like that would be a rather small segment. I'm kinda surprised they provision that at all.

It's surprising, yeah, and pretty neat for people who are trading in their Switch to offset the price of the new one.

It sounds like the process is a lot more straightforward if you have both systems handy at once. I assume "local communication" is the same kinda deal as PS4->PS5.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Doesn't seem to be unnecessarily difficult? You can transfer it locally with the two systems side by side. They even implemented a technique so you can upload it to the cloud and then later transfer it to your new system to specifically to promote trade ins. Which is kind of cool since Nintendo doesn't usually play well with the secondary market. A lot better than Sony where you have to have PS+ to transfer your saves to another PS5. -rolleyes-

Yeah, that's not entirely correct. You can also copy saved data directly from one PS5 to another, if they're on the same wireless network.

I'd like to be able to play my games on both a Switch and Switch 2, but I guess I can't unless they're Switch physical carts, right?

tanman 04-30-25 04:31 AM

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

It's my understanding you can only transfer the entire contents from one PS5 to another PS5. You can't just transfer save data from one console to another. Unless you have PS+

Yeah I'm not sure how it will work with the Switch and Switch 2. I guess we'll see. I guess we can use the virtual game cart system to use both? How does it work if you have two Switchs now?
