Because, with a quick Google...
https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/...ll-time#top-10
https://www.ign.com/lists/top-100-snes-games/3
http://snesrankings.com/games/025_001.html
https://punishedbacklog.com/best-snes-games/
https://www.gamesradar.com/best-snes-games-all-time/
https://www.timeextension.com/guides...s-you-must-own
It quickly becomes apparent it's considered one of the best SNES games of all time, typically in the top 10, if not top 3.

And also because using the Switch Thread to discuss Super Metroid is like using the PS5 Thread to discuss Ratchet and Clank : Going Commando. You can technically play the game on that system, but it's not really what this generation of console is designed for.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I'm very happy that you discovered Super Metroid Oldboy. It's pretty much tied with A Link to the Past with my favorite game of all time. One of those games that it would be awesome to experience for the first time again. But you're 30 years late to the game. (exactly this month!) It was a really hyped game. It was advertised as the largest game ever and came on a 24 megabit cartridge. It's continually mentioned in many people's top games of all time and definitely one of the top games on the SNES.
So asking if Super Metroid got any praise would be like asking if Gone With the Wind got any accolades back in the day. It's a little bit obtuse.
But again, glad you discovered it and are enjoying it. Try out the other entries in the series. Or other SNES games you might have missed out on. I heard there's some game on there with a fat dude wearing a red hat riding some kind of green lizard thing. It's all the rage these days.

A final Switch-centric Direct!
My nephews are going to lose their minds if this is where the Planet Robobot remaster is announced.
Tune in on Thursday, March 27th, at 7 a.m. PT for a livestreamed Nintendo Direct, featuring around 30 minutes of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch. There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation.

Metroid Prime 4 release for Switch and Switch 2?
I almost wonder if this is one of the primary purposes of this direct. So they can properly show off Metroid Prime 4 and give it it's due and then just announce it's also coming to the Switch 2 with enhancements. Although this could be a bit risky. There is not much difference between the Switch and the Switch 2. We've already discussed it's not a revolutionary jump. So if they release MP4 on both systems and the Switch 2 version doesn't look significantly better than the Switch 1 version could people just question if upgrading to a Switch 2 would be worth it? i don't know I'm I'm just thinking out loud here.
It's very fascinating to have a Nintendo direct for the Switch < a week before their big Switch 2 announcement. I guess any announcement tomorrow will also be compatible with the Switch 2 and therefore help the launch lineup in a way.

I mean the same arguement can be (was) leveled at multiplatform games the first couple of years of the PS5 and Series X. That's the problem without a clear delineation between generations.

No matter what the initial offerings of the Switch 2 will sell out, we've seen it before, and if there is truly a system seller like Breath of the Wild we've also seen that they have no problems holding it back for simultaneous release. It's smart of them to not abandon the hype around their existing machine just because their latest and greatest is coming out in a few months, I'd think.

That Gradius Collection caught my eye: Gradius I-III, Life Force, and Salamander I-III.
I cannot count the hours I spent playing Life Force.

Also… The Virtual Game Card system looks intriguing! Good thing that everyone in my family (and on my family plan) each have their own Switch or Switch Lite.

Seems like that replaces the "old" sharing way (well you can opt for one or the other), so if you have a "home" switch where everyone plays it might be better to keep everything as is.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
Somehow we've managed just fine with the one Switch. Anyone with multiple Switches care to weigh in on the virtual card system? So I guess you can't play multiplayer with one game card then? Like two people playing Animal Crossing and visiting each other's villages? Is this new system an improvement or a way for Nintendo to limit things?
Overall a bit of a disappointing Direct. Not that I was expecting much less than a week before their big Switch 2 reveal but I was fully expecting them to announce Metroid Prime 2 + 3 remaster. Come on Nintendo, the first MP remaster was so well done give us the other 2 before 4 comes out!
....Switch 2 exclusive???

I'm torn because my kids each have a switch and this is actually perfect for that... they don't have to "wait for their turn" to play a digital game on the primary switch. I had actually switched to physical for single player games so that they could play them on their own switch lites. This removes that barrier. Of course if you are "sharing" with someone that doesn't live in your household that might be another barrier.
I have no idea what this does for sales of shorter games, though.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch
I do kind of suspect that while they let you use the old method for now, they will phase that out, perhaps when the switch 2 comes out, or at least remove the best feature of the old way, not having to buy 2 digital copies to play simultaneously. Not as big of a deal right now since there are really only a handful of multiplayer games like that (Splatoons, Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, Pokemon etc.)

Yeah, I connected my Switch to the Airport Lounge wifi, tried to update to the latest software, was told I'm already there, and saw nothing different.

How is an announcement for an IP in a different media form a spoiler? This is still the video game forum, right?
