Game vouchers will be no longer be available to purchase after January 30, but at least you’ve still got 6 months and change to buy ‘em (and a year after that to use them).

We're finally getting Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 for Switch on October 10, 2025.

Don't I already have Super Mario Galaxy 1 on the Switch?

You can buy Galaxy 2 separately, apparently. Digitally, I mean.

Hmmm, I didn't know that.

I guess folks were just wanting a two-pack.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I'm dumb enough to probably seek out a physical edition.

I'm glad I don't play drinking games because taking a shot every time they said "paid DLC" would've been some kind of Leaving Las Vegas situation. Such a bizarre Direct: the Illumination guy reading a script like he was a hostage held at gunpoint, a physical Virtual Boy accessory, shadowdropped Bananza DLC that got more time than Metroid Prime 4, Z-A DLC up for preorder before the game's even out, the generally bizarre pacing and haphazard placement of announcements... But the good stuff was good, so...?

Virtual Boy is the one major nintendo console I never had (for good reason) but man I'm tempted by that stupid accessory

To be clear, Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't currently available on Switch. On October 2, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 will be made available as separate digital purchases, and as a bundle. They'll be $39.99 each, or the bundle of both for $69.99

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/...retail-for-70/
According to Nintendo, both titles feature improved UI, the option to play with button and stick or motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content, and enhanced resolution. For Nintendo Switch 2, a free update will add 4K resolution support for both titles.

Yes, Super Mario 3D All Stars is OOP. It's not available anymore digitally in the eShop, and the cartridges go for a fair amount of money.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Sorry, I should’ve used future tense about Galaxy 2. The perils of typing quickly on my phone before a meeting!

But knowing that the physical 2-pack is $69.99, and I already have 3D All-Stars, maybe I’ll just go digital instead. Even $39.99 for Galaxy 2 alone seems like way too much, though, especially since neither of these have been remastered or anything.

This is where a former member would come in and chastise you for ever questioning Nintendo's pricing. Personally, it seems a little high, but I still might spring for it. Not going to double up on the first one though.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Highlights of the Direct for me:
  • Yoshi and the Mysterious Book - digging the art style; maybe for a younger audience, but I'll give it a look
  • Tomodachi Life - we had fun with the 3DS game, anyway
  • Metroid Prime 4 - release date! Plus a bike, 'cause I guess Samus can't roll in a ball all the time!
  • Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave - my wife played a 5-hour marathon of Three Houses one day and never came back to it, so I'm not sure about picking this one up for her, but it looks nice!
  • Kirby Air Riders - I kind of want those Amiibo

Dunno, maybe:
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
  • Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined

Monkey paw:
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2: finally! Price: bad!
  • Super Mario Wonder DLC: oh, that's cool! What they've shown of the multiplayer stuff: not for me!

What, what?
  • I guess we'll get a Metroid Prime 4 showcase eventually!
  • A Virtual Boy accessory? I might be dumb enough to buy this. Maybe 2, as my brother-in-law is a proud Virtual Boy collector
  • Another Kirby Air Riders Direct?
  • The Pokemon-meets-Minecraft Pokopia
  • The endless chanting of "paid DLC"
I was expecting to see more of the Splatoon spinoff.

But yeah, a good amount of stuff I was interested in and a whole lot I wasn't (especially with the Direct being so front-loaded with not-gaming stuff).

On the upside about Galaxy 1/2:
Additions to both games for these new versions include boosted resolution (up to 4K on Switch 2), an improved UI, a new in-game music player, and the option to play using button and stick or motion controls.
And announced in the Japanese Direct but not the NA one, for whatever reason:

But, on the other hand, for $40, I just preordered this.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

Nah...keep jacking the prices up on those Amiibo. It's working out in our favor because now nobody's buying them and they're going on clearance quickly even occasionally below the initially announced retail price.

I'm definitely down for that Virtual Boy accessory! One of my biggest regrets is not getting the VB when I saw it on clearance at Kmart for $30

Now I can finally own a "Virtual Boy"!

.......for the low low price of..............$100!!!!!!!

Ugh.....and since this is a Nintendo exclusive it's not likely to get clearanced out......damn Nintendo.....This is just a plastic shell right??? I was thinking $50 maybe $60.

But I fully admit I'm part of the problem. I'm definitely thinking about a physical release of Mario Galaxy 1&2 which of course would double dip with my 3D all stars cart.

Other thoughts:
  • I liked the varieties of DLC that they're doing. It seems to be a much better way to get some added value on a game and it is much more consumer friendly than a straight up $80 game.
  • Shadow dropping DKB DLC?? Not sure about that. Comes off a little greedy. Also I got the game on release day and I still haven't finished it so not sure pumping up the game right now is necessary. I like it. I just question the timing of it.
  • More Mario Wonder
  • Prices of Mario Galaxy 1&2
  • MP4 release date!
    • But I guess that's the final nail in the coffin for getting a MP 2&3 remaster.
    • Samus....on a bike......?? Not sure about that one. That's kind of cool though and opens up the world....but then that could fundamentally change the gameplay of Metroid.
    • I REALLY hope the entirety of the NS2 edition is on the cart.
  • New Yoshi game
  • No return of Mario 35
  • No new 3D Mario game. Which is to be expected. I'm guessing it'll be at least 2 years until we see one.
  • No real surprise for Mario's 40th. I really liked the game and watch release for the 35th. No real celebration of the original Super Mario Bros.
    • So to celebrate Mario's 40th;
      • A re release of SMG2 and a re re release of SMG
      • Rosalina's book. What does Rosalina have to do with Mario's anniversary??
      • A new Yoshi game. What does Yoshi have to do with Mario's anniversary??
      • Super Mario Galaxy the movie
      • Mario Wonder DLC
      • Mario Tennis
      • A random talking (but not interacting) flower.
      • Seems to be more of a celebration of the 15th anniversary of SMG2 than the 40th of Super Mario Bros?

Also lol at ANOTHER Kirby Air Riders Direct Sakurai is living up to his Diva reputation.

I was super disappointed in that Yoshi trailer. Looked way too kiddie. Those old Yoshi games were legit great platformers.

I got one on clearance at Toys R Us (?) with a bulk of the library for about that price. It was a fun diversion for a few days for that price, but it was easy to see why it was a failure. I don't think I owned it long before I dumped it.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I want one for posterity. So I can say I own every Nintendo console. Definitely not for gaming. I thought it sucked even back then. That's why I didn't buy it when I saw it on clearance. The short demo at Best Buy was enough to convince me to wait for the N64.

Really? Seems pretty much in line with Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Wooly World and Yoshi's Crafted world. Those all leaned heavily towards younger kids. I really liked the art style as did my 13 year old. But yeah the game play looks very simple. I feel like we didn't even really get a good look at the game play.

The problem (for me) with the Virtual Boy accessory is that it's an accessory that can only play games on a service, not games you can actually buy.

Re: Nintendo Switch: Building a New Generation of Hardware from Scratch

I barely use my PSVR2, and that plays games that are a hell of a lot better than anything on the Virtual Boy. Cool idea for an accessory, but no thanks

Which would be perfectly fine if it was priced that way. $50 would have been perfect with all the stipulations it comes with. As it is at $100!!! (Seriously WTF Nintendo) for a plastic shell to play 14 mediocre, at best, old experimental games that are only available through a subscription service is an extremely difficult pill to swallow. Seriously for $100 they could have made a standalone version of the VB. Remember when the NES classic was $80 preloaded with a bunch of games???? Feels like forever ago now.

I remember the Virtual Boy was practically being given away at $25 once it was a bust. For $100 now, it would be nice to have the controller at least.
