Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

I think most of us knew that our alliance wasn't going to be "competitive" and more casual and have a mix of players who weren't interested in all the grinding. Hopefully that wasn't your expectation, since I've seen complaints about our alliance's score.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

I'm curious to see how the team-up stuff works. Hopefully it doesn't negate the advantage of having leveled up 3* characters too much.

As for our Alliance being competitive, I do think it'd be cool if every once in a while a bunch of us really put the effort in to do well. It'd be nice to get in on some of the 4* covers that you can only get as an Alliance. That said, we already get some nice bonuses just from having it and placing in the top 250 or whatever, so there's really no reason for anyone to complain. It was established so the community here could play together, not to make a run at being one of the best groups of players in the game.

I used to think that, but throw a leveled up Falcon in the mix and those Latveria tiles turn awesome. Get a half dozen or so on the board, match a couple yellows and the other team is all but finished.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the ISO and HP bonuses I get from the 101-250 level every event. I just think it wouldn't take much more effort to crack the top 100 for a cover as well. I'm not suggesting we struggle for the highest tier or two.

The slingshotting in the PVE events really don't make you grind too much. When it's all said and done.

Update is live on the iOS store.

1* and 3* Storm's red power is now yellow and tweaked for Team-Up tiles.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

so the team ups are interesting. basically, you pick 1-3 characters you can call in by using your environmental tile. each character has one specific skill to use once you fill up the environmental meter. it is a one time use sort of thing. you can also use boosts with them, as well. enemies will also use them, though. i used a modern storm one in my match and the enemy used juggernaut.

also of note, the team ups are boosted if that specific character is boosted. so in the current pve, my OBW is boosted if i use her team up. you cannot, however, use a boost of a character and that character in your 3 person team. also, when you match 3 environmental tiles, they do damage. it used to be 3 would just clear them, 4 or more did damage. now they do damage. it also seems like the environmental tiles are fewer now, but maybe that's just my own perception.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Team Ups are weird. They're essentially boosts that you equip before a battle and can use once-per-equip if you get enough tiles matched. Environment tiles are gone if you do equip at least one boost. You can't use the boost of a character you have on your team, so you're really using it to add a color power you wouldn't otherwise have. That's cool.

One thing I noticed: it seems like matching a critical with Team Up tiles does not give a multiplier the way Environment tiles do/did. So that was a bummer.

Temporary healing is now green instead of a lighter orange. Way better!

Should have made the AP-stealing powers, like Recon, steal Team Up tiles now since they're more like regular powers now.

Problem with PvE is that the slingshotting is really magnified only if you have the specified hero, otherwise I think the regular nodes get way too tough by the end of the event to really grind out points for lower leveled players (of course, being in a top alliance means that they all got the featured hero, which means they do better on the next one, etc.)

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

So it appears the team-ups are consumables, much like the previous boosts. The main difference seems to be that if you select one, but don't use it during the match, you get to keep it. And it says you can earn them by winning matches against tile swapping characters. Who all falls under that umbrella? Moonstone & Magneto I know, but I'm blanking on any others.

And yeah, the new intro screen made me smile.

Tile-swapping = non-goons.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

So with the changes:
You have to grind to get powers that you want.
More damage will potentially be dished out in every match.
How does defense work? Do you assign a defender and use it if someone attacks, or does offense just get an advantage similar to other boosts?

Why did I upgrade again? Probably better at this point to just play as normal, at least until this round of events ends, because I don't see only a disadvantage to you if you go by the new rules (ie: more damage inflicted, more health packs or downtime)

edited to add:
I highly recommend you do not upgrade until they force you to.

I'm getting kinda bored with the whole thing honestly. Even with changing it up. I didn't even recruit my captain marvel.

And wow that's an ugly rendering of her.

Agree 100%. This is just yet another change to cause people to take more damage and pay more (or play less).

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

So are environment tiles completely gone for matches with tile-swapping enemies? Even if neither team selects a team up going in?

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

yes. the traditional environment tiles are gone, even if you don't pick a team up card. they are replaced by the new ones, which now only fill your team up meter.

So if you don't pick a team up, you're at a significant disadvantage. But you don't have unlimited team ups. Good one, developers. Annoying.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

I don't think I've finished a match using more than one, if any, and I always get one at the end. In fact, I was maxed out at 20 for a few matches and was told I couldn't get any new ones.

I think they could be handled better, especially since you have to add them each time or you're fucked, but I certainly don't see the hatred for them.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

The opposing team does more damage with the teamup function for sure. I got my 4th Captain Marvel cover from the starfall event and I'll bag my 5th tomorrow morning when I hit 60k points in Oscorp event.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Sick of Capt Marvel. not being able to get her in the initial event has made for a boring week of PvE and PvP.
The computer using team ups has been buggy. In one match, they used a Jug team up and it gave them a ton of AP so they basically destroyed my team in that one turn by chaining powers, and this was like 3 moves into the match! Most of the time, they use a team up that only does a couple hundred damage so its no big deal
