Any of you guys playing the PvE test EOTS event? My God I hope they don't make it permanent. Truly awful, impossible scaling.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Yeah, it's terrible. They really should have tried it out with a 3-day event instead of a 7-day one. I've pretty much just been playing each node once except for the ones with a command point at stake, which I play until I get it.

In a couple weeks, I'll likely either be going more casual or taking another vacation from the game. I've championed every three star except for Daredevil and Bullseye. I need about 200k ISO to finish them off. Once I'm done with that, the game's hooks should be out for a while. I can be entertained grinding away PVE for progression rewards and ISO, but can't be bothered with shield hopping to do well in PVP. Without that, transitioning to 4* is just kind of a random crap shoot and I don't think I'll feel much incentive to do so. I do have Nick Fury and X-force maxed and championed, but just about every other 4* is at 4-6 covers. As I'm typing this, I'm thinking I'll probably stick with the daily Deadpools, but take a hiatus from the rest until they eventually add 4*s as semi-easily obtainable progression rewards.

So for those in the Alliance that are still playing, are we going to shoot for Iron Man or Cap for Civil War? It looks like everybody needs to stick strictly to the same one to maximize progression rewards.

To help with anyone's decision making process: Cap 4* reward is Falcon. IM 4* reward is HB.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

I started for Iron Man and knocked out over half of the first round. If people feel strongly about going with Cap, this is the round to make the change, as two people can knock out the round pretty easily.

If you haven't played the game in a while, you should log into it. They added a new ranking feature based on the number of characters you have and how much you have leveled them. They grandfathered everyone into the rank that they would have been had all of the actions that get you xp would have applied. I started out at rank 64 and got over 800,000 Iso in one swoop. You get ISO rewards for each rank.

On an unrelated note another f2p Marvel mobile game, Avengers Alliance 2, is shutting down at the end of the monthl. Again, not related but a reminder to not go overboard with the in app purchases thinking the game will go on forever.

That's good advice. Marvel: War of Heroes shut down this year, too.

I liked the addition of ranking up and getting ISO. I've played a bit more since then. I got around 300K, which sure didn't hurt.

I got around 300K too, which was nice. I was able to level-up a few more 3-Star characters.

I'm kinda stuck in limbo right now. I've got around 20 3-Star characters past the max level. The rest of the 3-Star roster doesn't interest me. And I can't make any progress on my 4-Star characters because I never get covers for them. They need to figure out a way to start dropping more 4-star covers.

They will be introducing a new feature with the next update that integrates the ranking system. A lot of people are speculating that it is tiered play with better rewards for the higher tiers. The 4* transition is tough these days because there are so many of them.

If I were starting from scratch today, I would focus on getting every 2* championed. Their sell value along with the champion rewards makes it worthwhile to champion the toon, take it to level 144, sell the 144 and then start over using the ISO you got from selling it to level up the same toon. In total you get 5 cp, 350 HP, 3 3* covers, 5 heroic tokens and the xp from applying covers to the new toon, championing the new toon and applying new champ levels. XP is worth roughly 10-15 ISO per xp. If you play lightning round seeds (have the app open when a lightning round starts and play all the nodes until you stop seeing super easy teams), you can get a lot of 2* covers. I'm personally able to cycle through all of the 2* (except bagman) once every month and a half to two months. It allows me to get enough HP for new roster slots and to buy the daily deal on the PVE vaults (which has a chance at winning a legendary token and 3 4* covers). The 2* feed 13 different 3*, who feed 13 different 4*. It's the circle of MPQ life.

After I got the 2* farm fully planted, I would then focus on championing every single 3* in the game because of the champ rewards (which are heavily backloaded). I wouldn't spend any CP or legendary tokens until I had every 3* championed. Starting from today, that would take a long time. However, by the time I had all the 3* championed, I would have a massive pile of cp and legendary tokens. I would then wait until there were 3 really good 5* in the latest legendary token pool and then I would spend all of the tokens at once and use all of my cp to buy the latest tokens. I would give you the best shot at getting the most 5* covers for specific toons. It's much better to have an 8 cover phoenix than 8 1 covered other 5* for example.

Meanwhile, every single cover you pull would be "useful" which I find much more fun than selling.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

That sounds like good advice. I have a 7-8 2-star characters, but I throw away a lot of covers for the ones I'm not using. The hard part will be getting HP to open slots for them.

How long can you stockpile tokens? I thought they expired after a certain time.

Yeah, good advice OC. Wish I would have thought/known/realized this before I spent all my legendary tokens (I spend as I get em). I was selling my 2* to make way for my 4* that only have 1 or 2 covers. Other than Old Man Wolverine (yellow), most are useless to me right now. I really don't play anymore though so not a big deal. The grind got to me. Now, I'm grinding out SW Galaxy of Heroes.

Token's never expire. Some players even have tokens from events that they haven't run in over a year.

I think that PVE is your best source of HP and then the 2*s. If you play it 4 times on every node (and to green check marks on the 4 easy nodes), then you can hit max progression which includes some HP. If you get top 50 in the daily bracket, you get HP too.

Yeah, I haven't played in a while, so picking up the console version is like relearning everything, and they don't exactly explain things to you. If not for my familiarity with the mobile version I think I'd be completely lost.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Can anyone recommend some current mobile games similar to Marvel Puzzle Quest?

I really enjoyed playing this years ago. Now that I'm stuck at home, seems like this would be a good timewaster. But I don't know anything about the mobile game scene.

Thanks.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Anyone still playing this? I just started. I'm a little overwhelmed. I found a newbies guide but even it was overwhelming (and a little out of date, I think). i have recently been playing Puzzle Quest 3 on Xbox as well, which does a lot of the freemium stuff.
I know ISO is to level up and Hero points expand roster. They seem to be much harder to come by.
I've got about 20 heroes, from one star level 5 to a five star level 255, and lots in between.
What is the benefit to using heroes who are not your strongest? Do you have to self-level to make it a fair challenge, or do only the used characters level up (or something). When playing Campaign I try to pick heroes around the level of the baddies for the first time I do each battle, but for repeats to get the other rewards I just use my strongest.
Do I just do fights and level up my roster, while trying to expand it?
Can individual heroes progress star levels? Should I get rid of any heroes (can you get rid of heroes)?
