Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

I didnt have enough HP for a shield last night so i had to keep playing Starfall until the end to stay below 50 so i could get the Magneto cover.
Getting the red Hulk cover was a lot easier than i thought it was going to be.

I hear lots of talk of the 2* magneto/2* storm combo but as a OBW(3/5/5 of course)/2*Wolverine combo, i can destroy that combo in PVP like 99.9% of the time while ending with near full health. Are there any combos the computer plays better than others? usually if i get beat in PvP its by a team with Thor or Ares. if they get lucky with some green heavy cascades, they can one shot OBW

Damn it, I still need OBW but I only seem to be getting purple covers.

You have to remember you have a significant advantage against the computer in 'PvP'... the computer, for instance, never makes six matches unless it has to, and most importantly you can target whomever you want and protect who you want by choosing which colors to match. Because of this, you can target the characters with less hit points first (Storm, OBW), strategically play keep away (especially with purple for OBW and blue for Storm) and win that way. But I've had the 2* Magneto/Storm combo retaliate and beat my lvl100+ Hulk/OBW team many times. On evenly matched OBWs, the first one to hit the purple steal has a big advantage.

Thus, on defense, what you really want to try to scare others off is some kind of heavy hitter like Ares or Wolverine; similarly leveled players will be able to beat them but may take damage, and when you're trying to rack up points you want to minimize damage if you can help it. Or a tank who will take a while to whittle down, like Hulk with a lot of black covers.

With OBW & Thor, I can consistently beat about any PVP team. When I do lose, it's almost always to an OBW & Ares combo or a couple of high 3*s. The 2* Magneto & Storm combo is easy to win some rounds with, but unfortunately, it's also pretty easy to beat. For straight offense in the PVE events, OBW, Magneto & Storm can really shine. In the current event, almost all of my matches go like this:
- gather purple at an accelerated rate due to OBW
- use Magneto to turn purples to blues, with as many separate strings as possible, as OBW will steal a blue for each separate one if the other team has them to take
- alternate between OBW & Storm with the massive cache of blue, depending on if your team needs healing

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

yeah, a hulk with a bunch of the black skill is a pain to fight, especially with an Ares or Thor.

for the PVP events, is it a good strategy when the event just starts, to play as a weak team so you get beat by a bunch of people so then you can later bounce back quickly by fighting them and get a bunch of points each win? or does it not really matter who beat you before?

I tried this twice after reading it and don't put much stock in it. Maybe it lets you get the first couple hundred points a little faster, but it seems like the number you get per match is based on the current points discrepancy between you and your opponent. If there's more to it, it's not enough of a difference to be immediately obvious.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Got my 10 pack:

Ares - Sold
Spiderman Blue - YES!! I've been waiting for a blue Spiderman cover forever. Use
Daken - Sold
Captain America Super Soldier - Use
Captain America - Sold
Bullseye - Sold
OBG - Sold
Storm - Sold
Punisher - Sold
Bullseye - Sold

So only two I could use, but I'm so happy about the blue Spidy that I'm ok with this pull.

Not sure what happened but I was getting nothing buy 242 Magnito/141/141 matches all morning. I get knocked out of the game after a match and when I get back it's all mid 80 characters that I'm matched against. Not that I'm upset, just seems weird.

Spidey blue was significantly nerfed, though (and Magneto blue is next)

Maybe the lvl 80 characters got up to your point level? I still have no idea how matchmaking works. I started the Magneto event and got a lvl116 Magneto, lvl85 Storm, lvl69 Bullseye, which isn't too bad... but it's one of those seeder teams, with 0 point accumulated (usually these are less than lvl 10). I've never seen a seeder team that high, but PvP has been brutal, and I've been in the 400s for the past few events and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Looks like the new update to the game now shows when a stage is all Full Points at the top right. Neat.

Also changed something with Hawkeye and Daredevil, and finally Ares's yellow tile will disappear if he dies instead of lingering around to do damage.

I wonder if the REAL red Hulk will ever show up.

I got a 3-star Captain America and a 4 star Invisible Woman. I also got a ton of OBW covers, not that I'm complaining.

Even with just one cover (yellow), Invisible Woman is very cool.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Actually IW is awesome. I almost defeated IM and BW both at full strength with IW and Magneto down to 23 health using her invisible protection yellow power. I knocked out BW and had IM down to his last few hundred life points before he was finally able to hit me with a few of his powers.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

I got the 10 pack finally just before I went to bed. I thought to myself " well it's not a complete loss, I got a single gold cover."

It was Psylocke blue.

Then I go to my roster. I was already maxed on her blue covers! And I have her barely powered up. I guess it had to happen sooner or later.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

They really need to add a way to gift covers to members of your alliance.

If not, then at least let me marked a character a "locked" so that new covers that are received are either sold immediately or at least the "Train" button isn't enabled if I know I'm not going to use it.

Or both.

There's no way they will just have a free trading option... if anything they'll let you spend HP to trade. It cuts into their profits.

Re: Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign

Maybe they should add a 'guaranteed 3*' cover option. Charge more for it, but also let people trade three of the 'guaranteed 2*' covers for one. I have full covers for every 2* character in the game, as well as all the 1* ones that I've kept on my roster. 95% of the covers I get now are nothing but ISO for me.

I actually wouldn't mind if they added some 2* cover characters just so it's not wasted. There are so many 3* characters already, with more being added, that the chances of you building up any one character from draws alone is pretty low and getting lower.

+1

They need more 2-Star characters. Once you get all the covers, the Heroic tokens lose any appeal. And in the past, I bought some of the Daily Deals. But now it's pointless. Add a few more 2-Star characters, and collecting/buying those tokens becomes fun again.

Plus, I'm getting tired of facing Thor/Ares + OBW in the PvP matches. A few more 2-Star characters, and maybe bulking up the existing characters, would add some much needed variety.
