I have the original pulse headset, so it's nice the update is finally here. I am a little disappointed that the Pulse can't do the custom modes like the other two sets can, but that's a minor quibble.

Even though there are custom modes, I can't really imagine anyone actually using one over another. You couldn't even tell which mode you were currently in until the Last Of Us put an audio cue in the profile so it says "The Last of Us" when you select it. Most of the time I just use the default mode. I can't imagine anyone can actually tell the difference.

OK, 1.60 is now being pushed out to PS4s. It's not up on Sony's website yet, but I have it on my system.
My Pulse headset now works! I played a little Resogun and everything sounded pretty good.

I just did the update too. Tried a little AC IV with the headphones and the surround is working pretty well.
One unexpected "bonus" I noted : with the headset in, after the update, you can use voice commands just like you could with the camera peripheral. I still think its easier to press a button than talk to your console, but at least it's an option now.

If you have your camera connected along with your mic on does it default the voice control to the mic?

Of course I didn't continue doing it, because I couldn't talk to my console without feeling like a tool.

Well, I don't know. I rarely used headsets with microphones before. But I've never seen it prompt me to speak voice commands before. Now it pops up at the bottom of the Home screen with voice commands like "Say [Launch] to start game", very similar to how it's done on the Xbox One. No changing things in the Options menu. I agree, it's way easier to press "X" than to yell at your PS4.

And just so you know, you can turn it off in the options menu, which I did, because really, who wants to talk to their console when everything is a button press or two away?

Yeah, nothing like wearing a headset to keep the house quiet during late-night gaming and then shouting "Launch!" instead of pressing the X button your thumb is currently resting on to fire up the game.

I was able to "purchase" Outlast and Meto (I think), but when I went to have the PS4 download outlast, it gave me the sign-in error. Stay classy, Sony!

This BS is pissing me off. I came home and downloaded the update and the plethora of other forced updates like NBA 2K14, Assassins Creed IV and Battlefield 4. Once all that was done I went to the store to download Outlast and get these stupid messages. Get your shit together!

With the forced download of games to the hdd of the newer systems, I hope that they start getting the games closer to 100% done before they go gold. It is ridiculous to have to download 2 gb patches or updates to games that are already on disc.

I think I'm going to plug an ethernet cable from my router to my PS4. I keep getting "download failed" messages (I can eventually get the files to download, but I have to tell the system to manually retry), and I wonder if this is a wifi issue.

Patches are only going to get bigger and more frequent moving forward, unless there's some sort of major backlash (unlikely) that outweighs the benefits to publishers of being able to push games out the door as quickly as possible and fix them later.

re: PS4 Release Thread: Kill Launch App #Driveclub due October 2014!!!
One good way to start it would be to always have the most recent version of the game available on the server. Right now, you download the game, then you still have to download the latest patch. Why? Is it that hard to integrate that change on the server side before downloading? At least the PS4 downloads both at the same time, but still.
Then they could work on the file system itself so that perhaps they can limit the number of massive, huge files that need to be replaced by a patch. Some games already do this, with relatively small patch files, while some games stick everything together in a huge file, meaning the whole thing needs to be replaced.
We're also starting to see more server side changes being made. While GTA V has had a lot of patches, many of the changes made to the game have been done without a patch by changing things on the servers. Sure, most of the changes have been bad, but it shows that a patch isn't needed to change everything.
Finally, it sucks when you have to download DLC content, even if you aren't buying it. That's the case with that huge Dead Rising 3 update. In order to make sure everyone can play together, everyone has to have the DLC files. I've gone through that on several games, yet there are many that don't do this.

I managed to snag Outlast not without hiccups though. After downloading, the system thought another user downloaded it saying I didn't have privileges or some such. Went into the settings to 'renew licenses' and then it worked like a charm.
Gave it 45 minutes or so. It's as creepy as advertised. Made me jump twice. Reminds me a lot of Condemned, which is a good thing.
