I was on the fence until the price point announcement. I think I'll sit out next gen for a while and work through my current gen backlog instead.

I believe it will hit the One first, then come out on the PC and 360 later. No PS4.

That's how they should market it.

I don't think that $499 seems nearly as expensive now as it did when PS3 launched. How many 16 GB Ipads have sold at that price?

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

There is no way in hell the PS4 will launch at $399. The amount of money they would lose per console would be way too high. It costs much more than the Xbox One does to manufacture. $499 these days isn't too bad, given the amount of hardware they are packing into it.

Wasn't that the deluxe edition with R.O.B.? I think there was a system only version (with Super Mario Bros.) for $100 or thereabouts. I can't remember now.

The subsidized model worked well for 360. Strange they wouldn't have gone that way with this and had it at $300.

No changes here. Xbox one purchase at launch, PS4 purchase at a later date for their exclusives. PS3 it's only used for BLU-RAYS and the same again... oh wait X1 has a blu-ray player now...

I'm surprised they don't have a subsidized model either. Maybe they'll announce it later on as a partnership with specific retailers...

Not to mention how the $499 PS3 didn't have WIFI even, along with some other functionality. Had to pony up for the $599 one for those features.

Of course PS3 had the advantage of being not only the cheapest Blu-ray player (by around $500), it was also the best at the time.

Yeah, I don't think $499 is perceived as expensive as it was 7 years ago -- a lot has changed in that time.

It's $100 more than the best launch Xbox 360 and $100 less than the best launch PS3.

Why would the PS4 cost "much more" than the One to manufacture? It has slightly higher specs, but doesn't have the Kinect unit.

It was the deluxe version...maybe ROB was spying on us too!

It shouldn't, it basically runs on completely identical hardware.

They're both running Octa-core AMD Jaguar processors, using AMD Radeons rumored to be around the 7790, both have 8 GB of RAM (One is DDR3, the other is GDDR5), etc.

Does the PS4 come with the new Eye camera?

The only thing I can think of is GDDR5 is significantly more expensive.

The memory the PS4 decided to go with is uber-expensive.

Considering the stupid new kinect is a mandatory bundle, I really don't think $499 is all that bad either. If they would have sold it separately, it would have cost around $150. So assuming Sony doesn't bundle their's in, there should be no reason why they can't come in at $349 - $399.

If Sony is less restrictive with DRM then I can see them matching the price for the Xbox.

I've never seen GDDR5 for sale on its own, what is the cost? I know graphic cards with multiple gigs are pricey but the RAM is probably the cheapest aspect of em. The most common prices I see is roughly $10 - $20 per gig.

GDDR5 has a slightly higher latency (nothing you'd notice) but substantially higher bandwidth than the DDR3 being used in the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 is literally a HTPC (x86, Radeon, DDR3), the PS4 can still say it's something else since no other computers really run off GDDR5, that's usually reserved for graphics cards.

I gotta agree with this. It looks like a fun game, but it doesn't look like Dead Rising... like they focus-tested in with teenage boys and as a result 'mainstreamed' it into a more 'market-friendly' title. It has the same color palette and overall 'look' of a lot of other stuff out there. It also seems like firearms play a bigger role this time. For me, the most fun I had in the first two was doing silly stuff like putting Lego heads on zombies and bashing them with stuffed animals.
