The amount of complaining and console bashing I have seen from people who do not support MS/Xbox have been equally sickening.

I guess I just don't see these "drawbacks" people are speaking of. I must be crazy thinking that all the info the revealed yesterday actually answered some questions and debunked all of the rumors.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Oh an about console bashing....I'm an xbox guy and love my 360 - yes I am bashing this console for all of the horseshit that is associated with it....I so want to own the new xbox but was not expecting any of this garbage at all.
So I now shift my focus on the new playstation......but sadly, for right now I just can't see them being much different. |

Debunked? They confirmed most of the used games rumors and they confirmed the dial-home-very-24-hours rumors.
Another rumor was that the Kinect was on 24/7 and spying on us. The fact is that you can disable every single aspect of the Kinect if you desire, so again, debunked. The only remaining confirmed thing is the "always online" which is now relegated to a simple check every 24 hours, mainly to allow the used games features etc. I would assume most people, and probably everyone on this forum have the internet and have had their console online since day 1, so this is not really a concern for anyone. Of course, as with anything, there are people in the extreme minority who can not hook it up to the internet. Pretty sure I am done commenting in here until the system launches, as it's getting pretty repetitive :) |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Do you have a link to where it's mentioned that you can disable all aspects of the Kinect camera if you want to? I ask because I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would do something like that - mainly because they are using it for Advertising targeting and as we all know..that's Microsoft's bread and butter over everything else.
Or does the source you got your info from say that the Kinect camera is not going to be used for ad targeting? Really hope you prove me wrong on all this as that would be a great step in the right direction. |

By recognizing you, Xbox One can tailor personal experiences and customize content just for you. At Microsoft, we prioritize your privacy. We understand that your personal data and privacy are important. Xbox One and Kinect will provide tools to put you in control of your data. These include: You are in control of what Kinect can see and hear: By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and you’re simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded. You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say “Xbox Off.” When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- “Xbox On,” and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences. You are in control of your personal data: You can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission. Here are a few examples of potential future scenarios: A fitness game could measure heart rate data to provide you with improved feedback on your workout, allow you to track your progress, or even measure calories burned. A card game could allow you to bluff your virtual opponent using your facial expressions. You can use other inputs to control your games, TV and entertainment experiences: While it’s faster to find what you’re looking for using your voice and gesture commands with Kinect, you can use a controller, your remote controls or your smart devices instead. And you can use all of these devices when Kinect is paused. We’ll have more information available as we get closer to product availability later this year. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Ummm, here's a Kotaku article that kind of sums it up. I think they link to the real article:
http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-kinect-pr...-off-511759241 "Unless utilizing a game or feature that requires the sensor, Kinect can be paused. When not using your Xbox One, it can be turned off with a simple "Xbox Off" voice command. In off mode, the system listens for "Xbox On", and that's it — and even that functionality can be disabled." |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The new Kinect looks a little weird... it is long like the original Kinect, but only has 1 sensor/camera instead of 3.

Pretty sure I am done commenting in here until the system launches, as it's getting pretty repetitive :) The fact is, while the absolute worst case scenario didn't come true (no used games, always on Kinect, always on system), what we do have (limited resale, always connected Kinect, 24 hour check in, no rentals, one time loans) are anti-consumer enough to piss off a lot of people. And those are legitimate gripes. No one is saying you can't get one. You are welcome to it. What I don't get are the people who are planning on getting one who are telling everyone else that their gripes aren't legitimate. Give me a break. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Facebook also says you are in control of your privacy and is very restrictive but also uses everything it knows about you to try to sell you shit. I can see this every 24 hours thing as a way for MS to see what you have been doing and shape their ad assault on you accordingly.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I figure you're going to get ads anyway, so targeted ads don't bother me. Of course, i've also already sold my soul to Google and Facebook already, so i'm sure all my info is already out there.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
As is mine but I like the idea of not being forced to connect to the internet in the case where the use of the interner should be optional: multiplayer and multimedia. Imagine if there was some way they could force our car stereos to log on to some central system and try to see if we have been listening to ripped music and then remotely disabling our car stereos.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The more I think about it, the more I think more games will also be available on Win8 due to their platform unification across console, pc, tablet, and phone. I'm fine with a pc for the first few years until the X1 proves itself and there's some gap between them that I just have to play.

EA didn't discontinue the online pass due to customer complaints. If that was the case, we would've seen an announcement for SimCity to be removed from the server-only model. All signs are pointing at that EA discontinued the online pass as DRM was coming for the next-generation consoles. Example: the hardcore Battlefield players will not be buying the game on the PS3 or 360. They'll be purchasing it on the PS4, XO, and PC. If Sony at E3 says, "NO DRM! USED GAMES AND RENTALS FOR EVERYONE!" it'll cause a fire that's lit under Microsoft's ass. They either embrace it and strip the DRM (there's still time) or be murdered in the console wars. |

Are we sure that left thing is the only sensor? It seems odd that they would put it way off-center like that. I'm thinking there are sensors in the middle behind a panel it can see through.
