The sad part is the actual conference wasn't that bad, showed off some cool features, the controller looks great and the UI is pretty nice. Could have showed off more games, but EA Sports, announcement of new IP's from Microsoft Studios, and Call of Duty weren't too bad knowing that E3 was coming. I just can't fathom how no one at Microsoft paid attention to the internet rumblings for the last YEAR to not have proper answers to questions about used games and internet requirements.

They need to hire a social media intern from Jack in the Box, or something. #FaveFlave.

Fuck xbox if I can't buy used games or sell my used games. PS4 can win this next generation at E3 by allowing used games.

I believe the problem is that it's too far from the board (they have to raise it so it's not too low relative to the analog sticks). Good D-pads, like from Nintendo and Sony, are very close to the board.

Thanks for listening, MS. ;)

Speaking of the d-pad, again, we have yet to game with it, but know that it's small, clicky, and feels great. The best we could do to test it is thumb around in a menu. Designers say that it's on its own circuit board, and is much more responsive than the mushy Xbox 360 d-pad.

Based upon today's reaction, both good and bad, I wonder how much course correcting MS will be doing in the next few weeks leading up to and at E3. (The same could be said about Sony, but then again, we know far less specifics about the PS4.)

I'm assuming based upon the release dates of Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, the XO will be out by October at the earliest meaning software won't be going gold and consoles won't actually be getting produced until late summer at the earliest. This isn't an Apple keynote where the products will be in consumers' hands within the next week. Microsoft and Sony still have time to make changes, both good and bad, leading up to their respective launches.

The being online and possibility of not being able to play used games doesn't bother me, but the lack of backwards compatibility and forced use of Kinect does. If I paid for cable television, maybe I'd be more excited.

Because I can't foresee really buying anything other than map packs on XBL until the new console hits.

I don't know. I've been mentally backing away from the 360, thinking there's probably no reason to buy any/many new games for it, as I was planning to upgrade at launch and already have a sizable 360 backlog. Now I'm thinking I need to buy some more MSPs, as I'll likely be stretching the console to last as long as I can. Assuming they don't reverse course enough to make me reconsider on the XO, I'll be buying a lot more 360 content over the next year than I'd been planning on.

If we are truly not going to be able to buy or sell used games, my purchases will just become few and far between. I'm only going to stick to games that are sure hits... thus screwing up and coming developers or potential diamonds in the rough.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

For sure this will be the 1st generation launch in quite some time that I will not be purchasing at release and almost certain not being until at least 1 announced price drop. I'm still leaning towards the XO and maybe getting a WiiU as well. Price point on the systems for me would have to be $350 and $200 to get them both. I have plenty of old games still back logged that another 2 years I could see not being actually too long of a wait. While I love what I see with the new Kinect, MS forcing it on us pretty much makes the wait longer since it for certain adds probably $150-200 to the price of the package. Figure they will easily try and justify a $499 price now at launch saying what amounts to $350 for the system itself plus the Kinect which is clearly WAY BETTER than the original out now. It almost certainly appears now that the old Kinect was essentially an "experiment" to throw out there so that they could tweak out all the issues for the new one for this generation. At least that is what I think.

Bingo!....what this may actually mean is there will be less winners and more losers in sales. Gamers will become more choosy on game buys. Which mean for studios who may expect 700K in sales may see 500K. Not only that with used games people did buy DLC and that's out the window.

I understand their beef about so-called losing money in the used market but I truely think they are underestimating the economics in general of gamers. They're assuming "ALL" the money being spent for used games will just flow right back into new games....not so fast.

I'm still not getting the "small fee" quote for buying used. Harrison said if you take it to a friend's it would cost you full price to play it at a friends then how would the fee for using a used game be less than $60?

Was there an actual quote with the word small? The only place I've seen that qualifier was from a Polygon article and they seemed to just make it up, as the Wired article they used as their source just said fee.

now, i saw the SpikeTV launch special and GTTV special after that and i am sure it was mentioned somewhere in this thread, but no where in the specials did they mention backwards compatible either way.

so do we know for sure it won't have it or not yet confirmed?

No BC for 360 or 360 XBLA games

It's confirmed by the VP of Xbox Live.

I'm probably keeping my 360 for the bedroom, so BC isn't a huge deal for me (though I understand why it is for others). To me, it seems like they are downplaying the gaming aspect of this system. I understand that these devices are now expected to be all-in-one toys, but the focus on TV is a big turn off for me. I hate TV and spend time most people would spend watching TV in my game room. Not every electronic device has to be all things to everybody.

I'll see what E3 and the PS4 have to offer, but I'm not thrilled with this direction.

I'm excited. The new kinect looks impressive and i love the move towards Media. The 360 is already such a good machine for that I'm excited for whats to come. I just wish they showed some gameplay of something.

If this downloadable game thing is true... just do away with selling games in stores. If you can never resell it then make all games downloadable at a flat rate of $30 bucks or what have you. I can't remember the last game I actually paid $60 bucks for. That price is just ridiculous.

I have no intention of buying any of these consoles until the reviews are all in and after a few months or a year.

Also have they said if they will still make games for 360?

Yes they will still be supporting the 360 for years to come, the exact amount of time is not known but as long as there is money to be made it will keep going obviously.

Do you think the price will drop on 360 games when they launch? Instead of a standard $59.99, maybe down to $49.99...or $39.99?

It has been 2 machines for a while now.

The more I read about the retail games, the more they sound like they will be a cross between retail and XBLA/GoD games. You can buy the game at retail, which will save you the trouble of downloading it. The game will be tied to your system, but can be installed (read downloaded) onto another system and played so long as your gamertag is logged on. I assume that they have come up with some kind of system for deactivating the physical disk from your gamertag and being able to reactivate it w/ a code. I don't think it will be as bad as we are fearing. This system is just the transition to PC gaming w/ no used games coming up for the next round. I doubt we’ll see the awesome sales that PC users get though. Personally, I will just think of retail games as the same as GoD and only ever buy when it is really cheap.

All that said, can we please do away with entering 16 digit codes for every freaking game we buy? It is really freaking annoying when not at your computer. Hopefully that required kinect will be able to take a picture of your code and enter it automatically.
