I'm 26 minutes in, and they've shown me the console, but they've only shown about 3 seconds of a racing game.
I know you guys all watched this already, and I'm behind the curve, but damn, I'm not sure I want my console to do any of this stuff. Same goes for you Sony...not looking to share my gaming shit on facebook. I'm also not looking for complicated purchasing structures, and I damn sure don't care whether either of you don't like Gamestop. Actually, if you hate used games, give me something like iTunes. The most interesting console to me right now is the Steam Box, and it's probably vaporware. :( |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
So if you can play it for free among family members, get a group of five friends together, call them your family, and each person takes a turn buying games.

Based on the Phil Harrison description, the Xbox One is pretty much Steam right?. Activation code that ties the game to your account, and you don't necessarily need to be online to play but need it to activate.
Can't really lend PC games around to friends and family either. |

Anyway, I should probably just get a new iMac and turn this Mac Mini into a cheap rig in the living room. |

 45 minutes in, and I thought they were going to show a Halo game. Nope...it's another TV show.
So far, it's been Forza and EA Sports. Edit...and CoD has a new engine...and a dog...aaaaand scene. |

With games downloadable on PSN, yes. You can have your profile on 5 PS3s and if any profile on a machine has a game, they all have it. Game sharing is pretty common actually. I did it a bit, but given that I have 3 PS3s in the house, returns were diminishing.

Your 360 is already doing this. I've been using my 360 as a DVD player in my bedroom for the last few weeks and I've noticed that it had up-to-date advertisements on the front page even though I hadn't been online in weeks. I also remember when I was part of the last beta it would tell me when I needed to update without signing onto the Internet.
If Microsoft wants to go online for 2 minutes as I sleep I'm not gonna make a big deal out of it. DRM is a slightly-annoying solution to a couple of legitimate problems and its not going away any time soon. |

It's pretty stupid that even after the announcement, the details about online connectivity and used games are all over the place. No wonder the rumors were all over the place, even Microsoft doesn't fucking have a straight answer.

Not that I would ever use it for watching live TV, but my HD cable box only has component output (no HDMI). So how would I get that to work with the XO?

Component to HDMI converter/adapter?

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I really don't want my console to do any of that shit.
I don't want to talk to it, or grip it in thin air, or search the internet, or post to facebook, or have it call me by name, or turn it on just to change the channels on my fucking TV. I've tried cameras and sensor bars, and I'm done with that nonsense too. For a console as entertainment hub, my PS3 goes about as far as I want it to go and just a bit further. I play games on it, watch blu-rays on it, and maybe a bit of Netflix. Xbox One had me at Blu-ray and then lost me with pretty much everything else. Oh, and it would be nice if it played games, preferably some compelling exclusive ones. It's like these assclowns at MS and Sony don't know that my smartphone is always at arm's reach, and my universal remote isn't that fucking complicated. -rolleyes- |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Xbox Done. They relieved none of my anxieties. Can't change the hard drive. The only way that I would like Kinect is if I could say "Xbox hand me my controller" or "Xbox get me a sandwich" and have the machine comply. Then on top of that they threw in a stupid name.
Maybe Microsoft is tired of losing the coveted "Worst Company" title to EA every year. |
