Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Right now hardcore gamers are hating the Xbox One. Most gaming sites show that.
But the mainstream media loves it. I almost saw the saw the same in my Facebook feed. Non gaming sites? Macrumors users, for example, seem to love the presentation, in general, thinking that's what a new Apple TV could do. Also, we already knew about BC because the new architecture, we talked about that here, it was either they added a hardware add-on, that would add cost to the console, or didn't support BC at all. I'm fine with their choice. The big noise right now is with used games. It's a cluster fuck in the gaming sites. But basically we don't know anything. They probably are still working the details. The only thing for sure is that things won't work the same. Maybe?. In my particular case, with Kinect mandatory I have a problem of space and location. In my bedroom I'm not sure if I have space for a console and a Kinect camera, right now I can only fit my Xbox 360 and my cable box, both in the vertical position. In my home theater room, with a projector, my Xbox 360, and all electronic components, are in my right side. Will Kinect work fine that way? or do I have somehow put it in front? When my kids want to play Kinect games I use a long cable to put in front of my screen, so yeah, most of the time my Kinect is unplugged in a corner. |

I understand their beef about so-called losing money in the used market but I truely think they are underestimating the economics in general of gamers. They're assuming "ALL" the money being spent for used games will just flow right back into new games....not so fast. I have been an Xbox fan from day 1 and was an early adopter on the OG Xbox when Sony was beating the shit out of it. I can't believe I may skip this generation and stick with my old Xbox 360 for years to come. I am not a huge gamer but I tend to buy all my games new but usually what until they are deeply discounted. I will take a chance on buying some games because I know that even if I hate it, I can sell it on Half.com or trade it on Goozex or someone else. There have been many games where I didn't buy the first game new but ended up buying the sequel new because I enjoyed the first game. And Rock Band purchases. Oh my RB purchases. I know I don't probably have near the amount that some people do but I probably have at least 300+ songs or more (I haven't checked in a while). Granted I don't play the title everyday but it is one that I drift back to every few months and play the shit out of it and then take a break. I recently went thru my Goozex account and used up all my points so I have a ton of games sitting right now. With music, movies, TV, Netflix, magazines, books, comic books, and oh yeah...my family...my gaming has become more and more sporadic. Their decisions they are making on this system just might push me over the edge to limit gaming to the random one or two games that are super long or have heavy replay. I just may stop trying to keep up once this generation comes out. And we have two 360s in the house. I have one and my son has one. We will buy a Lego title and play co-op together on mine and then he can take it upstairs and play the game on his until his heart is content. Now we can't even do that? We want to take the Xbox on vacation to play it. What if the hotel or beach condo doesn't have wi-fi? What if I don't want to pay 10 bucks a day for w-fi at the hotel? Can we not play our system for a week? Do we have to take the "tits on a bull" useless Kinect everywhere we go just to play the damn thing? What if we want to rent a game to try it out while on vacation? Double fucked! Like someone said earlier, this is the most complicated gaming system ever. What happened to just playing games? It makes me sad to say this but Fuck 'em. The amount of money I have spent over the years on games, DLC, hardware, peripherals, etc. with both Xboxes should count for something but obviously it doesn't. I hope this all changes but I am not going to hold my breath. If they go thru with all these items mentioned, I hope they fail hard and Sony cleans their clock. Rant over. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Trying to keep an open mind, am happy about the kinect improvements (thought that demo didn't seem as impressive as I was expecting), the controller, and the other non-game stuff, but I too don't like the used game issues and the lack of BC. (I was pretty much expecting it, but wish they'd come up with some way to keep at least XBLA stuff).

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The thing with XBLA stuff (games) is that although is digital (I know everything is digital, including discs, but just we speak the same language), it's code compiled under the "old" architecture. You need to recompile under the new X86 architecture.
I think they could emulate it, being that the Xbox One is 8 times more powerful, has more memory, etc. But for some reason they decided against it. On the other hand they can always introduce that feature in the future. But I doubt it. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
Full emulation of a system on entirely different architecture is difficult, even on super current computers.

I don't want to talk to it, or grip it in thin air, or search the internet, or post to facebook, or have it call me by name, or turn it on just to change the channels on my fucking TV. I've tried cameras and sensor bars, and I'm done with that nonsense too. "Don't make a move! The ex-bee-oh-ex will try to make us watch Redneck Hoarders again!" |

So publishers, the same ones that publish on both Sony and Microsoft platforms, won't prefer the fact that you can't sell/buy games? If one does, the next will likely follow or they might lose support from publishers. It's not like this is just MS Produced games, it's all. EA, etc. The same publisher who publishes on PS4. They are going to favor the one that is going to sell more copies and has little fear of it's title being sold and re-sold 5 times. If this thing sticks, I fully expect Sony to incorporate it as well (if they haven't already. Remember - we haven't even seen the damn console yet just the controller. |
Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I wish they would release a disc-less XO. Those TV and Movie features are pretty cool. I would think most games would be downloadable anyway (like with the Wii U), so a disc-less XO could be a reality.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The logic is the game would sell more on PS4 because you could resell them.....

How disingenuous for EA to claim they're ending the use of Online Passes because consumers didn't like them when they knew full well what was coming was far worse. |

Sony will likely adopt the same thing over time. The fear of losing publishers, game delays, etc. are at risk. |

Yup, we have no idea what Sony will do. It could easily be just as bad. And I'm pretty sure they'll require some sort of Eye peripheral as well, which will end up making my beautiful 3D HDTV look like a security tower in a Wal Mart parking lot. If I had to choose, I think I'd still go PS4 because of the value of Playstation Plus. Either way, this was a very disappointing day.

All of my components are in the next room and the wiring runs thru the ceiling. It looks very clean and I don't have anything obstructing my view to the left or right (besides a couple of skinny speaker towers) or below. Where would someone like me put a mandatory Kinect? |

I don't know if you've bought into that logic or are just outlining what their thoughts might be, but it leaves out quite a few factors. For starters, if PS4 goes with no used restrictions and doesn't mismanage anything else, it may end up with a substantially larger install base. And eliminating the used market will have a substantial negative impact on new sales as a certain segment of customers becomes more cautious with their money. Whether that will be fully overcome by the 'positive' of more people having to buy new will have to be seen, but I'm doubtful it will even come close. Regardless, if EA can sell 100,000 copies that only have one owner or 150,000 that are resold five times, they'd be stupid not to opt for the latter.
I'm thrilled to see GameStop get the middle finger. Aside from crazy trade-in prices, I avoid that place. |

I wonder if people will eventually get over this in the long run, just like for PC games and Steam.

If prices drop like a rock like PC games on steam, then I wouldn't miss the used market.

Eight Reasons To Buy Microsoft's New Xbox One
http://www.forbes.com/sites/nigamaro...-new-xbox-one/ And of course only a couple of reasons are game related. How much faster? 7 years faster? I doubt that. - Improved Kinect Couldn't give a flying fuck about Kinect. - Voice Control I don't want to talk to my machines. My phone has this, and it works fine, but I never use it. - Second Screen I'm already distracted by enough shit when I'm sitting in front of a TV, I need more shit to distract me now? - Exclusive NFL Agreement I don't give a fuck about NFL, and I doubt this means games like Madden that you can't play anywhere else. - Built-in Skype Already have it on my phone, PC, PSP, etc. and never fucking use it. - EA Sports Ignite I don't buy sports games, and even if I did, this seems like a bunch of bullshit. - Entertainment Hub I already have one, a pretty sweet set up that streams all sorts of media locally and elsewhere. |

On the plus side, this would allow me to significantly increase my hooker budget. |
