I love how this thread has almost 3,000 more posts than the PS4 thread. Good or bad, I don't think it matters anymore. Microsoft has everyone talking about their console, and they will drag out that release date as long as they can.

I have to say, this console launch cycle has been a lot more fun than I remember the last one being. Thanks to everyone for being good sports.

If you'd like to discuss something besides the verbal syntax of the modern 15 year-old, the floor is open.
I've discussed more than that in this thread, but keep pretending that I haven't.

It's a double standard and it is ridiculous.

Opposition? Maybe that's why.

Apples and oranges. Apple announces a product you had no idea existed 10 minutes ago and says, "on sale today!" Apple doesn't prance around for 10 months slowly leaking details and features before saying, hey "in stores tomorrow!"

MS has been working on this console for at least a year. Announced it 6 months ago. Revealed some tv & sports shit 4 months ago. Showed some games and more shit at E3. They showed some more stuff at Gamescom. They announced long ago it was due in November. Point being, they aren't announcing a product and then saying, "buy it next week!" It's been a year long announcement with no end date. Where do you draw the line?

It's not a double standard because they are two vastly different approaches to launching a product.

That is good at least. Hopefully even with delays I will get to play it next summer.

As it stands now though, I am excited for Watch Dogs and kind of curious about the tablet integration.

That screams like a game that could use some cool Kinect features of it spying on you and working it into the game.

so just because something was done in the past, it has to always be that way? the only reason people are bitching at MS not announcing a date is because we knew further in advance with past system launches. again, as many of us here have asked, who cares? it's not going to affect people one way or the other, other than knowing which day to take off work so they can play it.

No doubt. I was trying to make the point that as much as we like to think we're driving the train, kids still get to decide what's cool, and they've decided the winner of every console generation to date (2600, NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, 360...in the US anyway).

Opposition? Maybe that's why.
Yeah, I wasn't sure who he meant there, and I didn't see how the question was all that relevant in the first place. Apple doesn't even act like they have competitors, and their products are perceived to be so good that people are willing to pay a premium just for the privilege of living in their closed ecosystem [glances at iPhone and sighs]. They also don't make or market gaming consoles, so there's that.

If MS wanted to try and pull an "Apple" in the console space and do their own thing like they had no competitors, I suppose they could do that. Instead, they choose to participate in the normal gaming industry events and they happen to have a direct competitor who happens to be communicating brilliantly and who appears to be making a more compelling and cheaper product that is scheduled to be released at more or less the exact same time.

Not to derail the conversation of yelling at each other over nothing but...

I was thinking about something the other day when talking about how people are certain the PS4 easily outsell the X1, since they are basically identical at ~70mil this generation. Most people seem to forget that the PS3 was/is the best Blu Ray player and was also the cheapest for a long time. I'd wager a LARGE chunk of people bought a PS3 simply for BR support alone. Like 10's of millions of people (myself, numerous friends, and family members included). With that feature irrelevant now, will we still see both consoles selling evenly and at that high of a number? I'd still bet that in 4-5 years we could see a huge swing the other way with the X1 outselling the PS4, as most people have BR players and the fact the the X1 now supports BR.

Ultimately, my point is that there is little to no reason to get both consoles this generation like there was last generation, unless you REALLY love playing a handful of exclusives. I told someone today I would choose a Wii-U hands down over a PS4 if given the chance right now, as a second system to the X1. Nintendo has much better exclusive games I would like to try....and I really really dislike the Wii-U.

Re: The Ironically Thoughtless Xbox One Thread

Why am I crazy? I thought it was a fairly well thought out and detailed argument with a lot of merit. The PS3 was a BR player first and foremost for a HUGE percentage of its consumers. You're crazy if you don't think I'm right about that part at least ;) What is going to happen this time when that feature is essentially removed from the equation?

Music 08-28-13 06:36 PM

Re: The Ironically Thoughtless Xbox One Thread

No, I meant about getting a Wii U over a PS4 - I get why you would say it as it would have completely different games, but for me, that would just be crazy.

I would wait for the real next Nintendo console to launch in a couple years.... ;)

Ah, well that I can agree with you on! I am crazy for wanting the Wii-U over the PS4, but once I said it I realized it was true. I rather play LEGO City, Pikmin, Mario Kart and Zelda right now, hands down over Killzone, DriveClub or Knack. Granted, the Wii-U should be $199, not $299 and I probably won't pick it up anytime soon, but still.

Re: The Ironically Thoughtless Xbox One Thread

@ Stu...Blu was one of the primary reasons I picked the PS3 over 360, so there's something to that. Free online was another, and that is gone as well. RRoD also seems to have been solved. But those advantages have been replaced by others (power, price, 1st party games, indie games, policies/PR, free games and hardware quality to name just a few).

I'd also be interested in knowing how many of those 70M PS3s and 360s were duplicate purchases. Both systems had their problems, but I think we can all agree that 360 had a few more. Edit: Game sales are the best indicator of actual active units, and I acknowledge that 360 led there, at least in the US.

I absolutely agree that once you've picked either X1 or PS4, the Wii U is a far better option as a second console...same as the Wii was. The overlap between PS4 and X1 is too high to argue otherwise.

Re: The Ironically Thoughtless Xbox One Thread

Yeah, the replacement cost would be interesting to see as well. Definitely more 360's, but a few people I know off the top of my head got the YLOD on their PS3's.

As for your PS4 advantages, those can all still be considered opinion, where as the BR was a simple fact. I personally prefer Xbox exclusives over Sony, with the exception of Uncharted 2 being great. Also, Sony may lose their indie game edge too with this generation, but time will tell on that. Plus, they are called indie games for a reason, nobody buys them ;) They certainly don't buy a console specifically for them.

You win again on price though.

Re: The Ironically Thoughtless Xbox One Thread

I usually get every system available and have done so since the PS1 / Saturn / N64 era, with the only exception being the Wii U. (I held off on the Wii until they released the black version :( )

I have already invested in both the Xbox Live and PS Plus "eco-systems" for me to not get either one.

If I financially had no choice to only get 1, then it would be the One because not only is that the one my friends will be getting, but I also like their "eco-system" including the achievements which enhances the gaming over PSN.

Music 08-28-13 06:56 PM

Re: The Ironically Thoughtless Xbox One Thread

"Luckily" I only had 1 system failure and that was the 360 which failed 11 months after I bought it.

The refurb was louder than my original system, but worked fine.

That was then regulated to the bedroom when I bought the Elite Version later the following year.

PS3 - no issues yet.

Change Killzone, DriveClub or Knack to Forza, Dead Rising & Ryse and the argument is still just as valid.

More so, since we sorta know when those games are coming out and stu is comparing PS4 launch games to a WiiU game due out some time in Spring 2014

I would call "power" and "free games" absolute facts as well. (1.84 TFLOPS to 1.31 TFLOPS, and MS could give more free games with Gold, but I haven't heard that they plan to).

On first party games, if you weren't into God of War, Last of Us, Ratchet, Sly, LittleBigPlanet, Modnation, Gran Turismo, Killzone, Motorstorm or Infamous, I can respect that, but surely you would acknowledge the sheer variety there.

I should note that MS has some advantages too. I admittedly like to make fun of "the cloud", or at least the way they have presented it, but MS has built an impressive infrastructure. I also think they have an advantage on UI, which is why Sony absolutely had to show the PS4's working live.

BTW...friendly dialogue appreciated.

Re: The Ironically Thoughtless Xbox One Thread

From my experience at the GameStop Expo this afternoon:

First, I'd like to point out that it was a waste of $35. For an event taking up two convention center halls at almost 200,000 square feet, a lot of it wasn't utilized. Outside of Microsoft and Sony, most of the developers didn't bring a lot of product to play with causing long lines. I ended up waiting nearly an hour to play Call of Duty: Ghosts and I didn't even go near Titanfall which had over a four hour wait to play.

For obvious reasons, I chose the Microsoft area first showcasing the Xbox One. Microsoft brought playable demos of Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, Kinect Sports Rivals, Project Spark and Zoo Tycoon for the XO. I was actually surprised and disappointed that Dead Rising 3 was nowhere to be found.

While all of the games look visually stunning and far better than what we have this current-generation, I only got my hands on with Forza and Ryse. While Forza was beautiful, it just wasn't my cup of tea as I'm not a fan of racing games and there was a better racing game at the Expo on demonstration. Ryse, on the other hand, surprised me based upon the co-op play we got to try out. While I thought it would be a series of QTE based upon the footage we've seen out of Microsoft's past presentations, the game was actually quite solid for the ten minutes I played of it. Very violent, but a lot of fun.

[For those wondering what the better racing game was, it was The Crew which Ubisoft brought a playable demo for... on the 360.]

The controller was everything I wanted it to be. Despite the fact the controller is lighter and smaller than the 360's, it actually feels more natural when playing with it. The real test of the controller came up at Activision's area. Their Call of Duty: Ghosts setup was nothing but XOs and it was awesome as we got to play live multiplayer against each other. Call of Duty has never looked as good and the controller felt more responsive than when playing the franchise now on the 360. Everything else on demonstration at Activision's area was for either the PS3, PS4, or 360. I believe the only game they brought to demonstrate on the PS4 was Skylanders Swap Force.

When I peeked in EA's area, Titanfall was also using XOs for their multi-player demonstration. I didn't see what they were utilizing for their other games on demo (like Battlefield 4 and FIFA 14), but I was disappointed that they did not bring a playable version of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and only brought gameplay footage.

What's interesting to note is that every XO demo, regardless of the publisher, were also using Ear Force Z SEVEN headsets which currently don't work on any console. I'm curious if they'll be an announcement made in the future giving the headset cross compatibility with the XO. I did head over to Turtle Beach's area to try out their new headsets for the console. I wasn't impressed by the Ear Force XO SEVEN which sounded tinny, but I did really like the Ear Force XO FOUR. It sounded better than the SEVEN, but specifically, felt a lot more comfortable on my head.

I'll upload pictures later once I go through them.
