Yeah, just that they are getting PS4s. They just don't like the idea of the Xbox One, and they think they Wii U is a flop. |
Re: Xbox One: The Only Choice for Rational Gamers
By "getting PS4s" does he mean their parents are getting them PS4s?
And you're smart by not pressing on the issue of the "idea" of the Xbox One, since that statement is ironically thoughtless. |

I won't press you on what you mean by "the idea" either, since it's ironically thoughtless.

I just can't believe a 15 year-old kid isn't as clued-in as a bunch of grown-ass men that spend their days reading, watching, and absorbing all the news instead of doing their fucking jobs.
I, for one, am thrilled that your kid is focusing on more important things in his day-to-day life, chess. |

Of course that's what's happening, but the parents are even more clueless than the kids. They buy what the kids ask for.

I don't disagree with this sentiment, and I don't look forward to running into more of them on PSN, but for grins I just asked my 15 year old whether he talked about the new consoles with his friends, and his exact words were:
Yeah, just that they are getting PS4s. Because Microsoft hasn't announced a release date |

Having played Goldeneye on somebody's N64 back in college does not make one savvy on today's gaming systems. Especially moms.

Maybe that was the case 20 years ago, but most parents today have played video games. Regardless, the idea of a kid "getting" a system ridiculous.
I'm 99.9% percent sure that as a kid, I would have said exactly the same thing. I'm getting one of these systems for myself that my kids will play. But I am probably in the minority when it comes to parents. I was told at a recent neighborhood party that we are considered the "cool young parents" which is hilarious to me. But I guarantee we are FAR more savvy about games than most of the other parents around us. |

But anyway, just because your neighborhood doesn't have "cool young parents" doesn't mean you are in the minority. Most gamers are adult age now, so it seems logical to assume most people who buy these systems now are not just buying them for their kids. Some are I'm sure, but this isn't 80s or 90s anymore. |

Re: Xbox One: The Only Choice for Rational Gamers
But you have no idea if pressing for more information would have yielded "ironically thoughtless" reasoning. Even if they don't have all the information, that doesn't mean they're incapable of having thoughts and opinions and feelings.
Those of us here on a message board mid-day Wednesday are more inclined to know more, too much more usually, than others. We're the informed minority, but that doesn't make us right. |

The "getting" complaint seems silly to me too.

Re: Xbox One: The Only Choice for Rational Gamers
 at the idea that a teenage kid is "thoughtlessly ironic" or "uninformed" because he gives his parents one sentence answers. A ten year old will talk your ear off, but teenagers are ruthlessly efficient with the info.
He absolutely plays games, probably more than me, but he gravitates to older SNES and GBA stuff because he has great taste. Hopefully he masturbates a bit too. WTF, Brack, is this actually how you talk to people??? I doubt many of those kids are counting on "getting" a PS4 this year, but they are surely capable of knowing what they want, just as we all knew what we wanted. I'm leaning toward getting my son a Vita so he can remote play my PS4, but that's another thing entirely, and I don't think $200 is unreasonable for Xmas. |

I disagree, I think "getting" doesn't imply that the child is involved in the monetary transaction. It's not any different from asking someone "What did you get for Christmas?"
