re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
The thing is that they can still do this with digital downloads. Plenty of people download their games, and if day one downloads will be the norm, a lot more people will start buying their games that way as well. Microsoft is making it sound like they can't do it at all, which comes across as childish retribution.

So Game Sharing was going to be glorified demos. rotfl
So in MS's futuristic version of gaming they want glorified demos instead of sharing a real disc and want to bring back 1990's era PC gaming with installation discs. Perfect. Unfortunately they stopped short of bringing back code wheels. Those were fun. |

http://www.heyuguysgaming.com/news/1...-rip-must-read At least the previous pastbin "employee" gave a bit of info about where he worked and something about the thai place on campus. I'm not saying he's lying, though. If it's true, then yeah... bullshit. But that Medhi guy, who actually talked at E3 about family sharing in a coherent manner, didn't even so much as hint about this "15 to 45 minute demo" stuff. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Yusuf Mehdi didn't really say anything though, or suggest much, from what I recall he just clarified the rules of how it would work but never broke down the specifics of "sharing".
To note, he is the Xbox Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, and it's likely his head that will roll if the Xbox One doesn't rebound in the public spotlight. |

Thing is... MS will never respond to a pastebin rumour anyway, so we'll never know. I seriously doubt it was that retarded, though. Just another thing for people to hate Microsoft for.

It softens the blow to know you're losing a stupid feature instead of a good one. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Amazon has changed the "release date" of the system from Saturday November 30th to Friday November 29th. Not sure if that means anything yet.

Found it funny that he called the PS4 the Xbox360 2 and the Xbone the better console. It is silly stuff like this and developers saying "we could only do this on this particular console" that irritate me about this whole thing.

Didn't an article posted above quote them as saying they could reinstate these policies at any time, at their will? |

So, at this point I'm conflicted. I have six XO games on pre-order. I ordered them at $40/each under the premise that they would work as advertised at the time of pre-order (ie: the disc is for installation, and I won't need it after the game is installed). Now, I'm to believe that these games will require the disc every time I want to play them, which is the PS3.5 way, but alas, also the X180 way now. Should I cancel and/or wait it out to see if digital prices are also $40 (highly unlikely)? I'd love to see MS offer a bundle deal, where if I pre-order them digitally, I get the same discount. I don't think that'll happen, though. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
You're not going to see cheaper than retail prices for digital downloads during at least the first month of a game's release. I can pretty much guarantee that. There'll be no super discount for downloading instead of buying retail.
At most, Microsoft will give a 2% rebate to those with 10 years or more Xbox Live history, but you have to wait 60 days for the 2% discount to be refunded to you, and even then it'll just go into your Live account, not your wallet. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Softens the blow for me, knowing that the "sharing" would have been so limited. They should have just given you the ability to share with 1 or 2 people fully, or just a limited experience like single player only or something. Poop.
Curious how Steam is going to do it, with rumors about them introducing it. |

PS3.5 and Xbox 480 are only valid if you buy the games at retail. Digitally they're both the full experience, minus the ability to trade, resell, loan, hold, or own your games.

Oh! Maybe I can sell the discs (unopened) for $55, and rebuy them digitally. ;) I just don't want discs anymore if they don't give me the benefit of a "digital" version. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Arthur Gies, shill extraordinaire. He does realize allowing 15 - 60 minutes of play time would still require extensive licensing I hope.
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Yep. PS+ has a one-hour demo mode for selected titles today. And you don't have to find a "friend" to share it with you.
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Yep, no way the family sharing was for demo only. Shit, the PS4 will let you demo all games regardless of some family plan or not, that's not a feature. The family plan was still the full game, just one person at a a time. It was their way of replacing physically loaning a disc to someone. Maybe online play would have been blocked? I don't know, but no way it was a 45min demo...that's absurd.
