Which one of you guys fabricated that story about the 45 min demo?

nope, just common sense.

Yep, no way the family sharing was for demo only. Shit, the PS4 will let you demo all games regardless of some family plan or not, that's not a feature. The family plan was still the full game, just one person at a a time. It was their way of replacing physically loaning a disc to someone. Maybe online play would have been blocked? I don't know, but no way it was a 45min demo...that's absurd.

And you know this how? WHAT AREN'T YOU TELLING US SIMPSONS CHARACTER REFERENCE LEET?

maybe they are saying it was demo mode now to calm the people who are pissed over the changes?

Regardless, if the sharing feature was a game changer then there is no reason it can't re-appear for digital distribution. I just don't think it was all, shit what do you kids eat these days, blood sausage and beans.

Lol, well 1st nothing ever said it was a demo. 2nd, all the interviews and Major Nelson himself was extremely happy with it saying it was the best feature. Why would they be happy about a demo mode for a random collection of games? I think EVERY game will have demo mode in digital form, just like the PS4 does. They will hopefully bring digital sharing back, to push people to digital purchases anyways, as they always intended.

Common sense should tell you MS tried to sell us half-baked features and expected gratitude in return on multiple occassions. they truly had no understanding of what a consumer wanted out of a product, all their attention was focused on pleasing the publisher.

All of their attention was focused on saving the gaming industry, and in turn, the consumers. Now their focus is on money and saving resellers, since that is what we wanted.

By letting people buy 2 copies for the price of 1? I think 50% off games would do a better job for me, personally.

Microsoft wasn't trying to save the game industry, they were trying to speed up the adoption of digital distribution.

According to some of the more optimistic Xbox fans, 10 copies for the price of 1 -rolleyes-

Is there any possible scenario that would end the bitchfest that has been going on in this thread? Or will you guys not be satisfied until there is no more Xbox?

Oprah to give us free Xbox Ones and PS4s, right now.

I'll stop if anti-xbox people leave and go to the PS4 thread. I don't go in that shit, they can stay out of here ;)

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

Naw it's more fun this way, the PS4 thread is dead because there is nothing to discuss other than an ugly UI. I mean really, we know the specs, we know the games, we know the controller. There's no ambiguous potential game changer potential lackluster special feature being added to speculate about, and their presentation as a whole was cut and dry.

I just hope the Xbox One manufacturing issues are just a rumor, because if I decide to buy one I want it available dammit. I hate being console neutral.

PS4: This is what you're getting.

Xbox One: This is what we would like to do, if you like it, but if not we may change our minds, or maybe not. I mean we could always go back to how it was if you would like that better, but probably not though it is certainly possible. We have some features that might be pretty excellent when you get right down to it, the implementation of these features will be dependent on a number of factors but I'm excited to explain them to you, but we may decide to alter those as well. So there it is in full detail, we hope you like it. And that's exactly what we intended from the start.

Before the price, or the always-online, or the forced Kinect became an issue - if someone had told me about Microsoft's sharing feature, I would have assumed a catch just like this one. It has nothing to do with hating Microsoft (again, I own 2 360s, have been a Live subscriber since the Xbox 1, bought a ton of games, etc.) - it's because I know that a company would never do something like the "pie in the sky" outlook on that feature.

Believing that Microsoft would halve their game sales is not "common sense".

I've still got a pre-order in for the One in the hopes they'll drop the Kinect and the price. Since I don't believe they will, I'll probably end up with a PS4 at launch. But hey, I thought they'd move ahead with their other dumbass ideas so I've been wrong before!

And boy is it ugly! ;)

That said, the barrage of threadcrapping from some (not all) in this thread is akin to those who just wouldn't shut up about how much they hated Prometheus. ;)

Prometheus was the movie version of a really dumb hot chick. So pretty. So dumb.

What's wrong with discussion about these issues? This is the hottest news story in all of the tech industry right now, and it's something that affects us all. I think it's safe to say that this forum needs some good discussion at the moment, and it's not just geeks who are interested in what's going on here.

Yeah, that's exactly my issue. I can keep the disc orders at $40/each and be forced to put the disc in every damn time I want to play, or cancel and just buy a couple at full price digitally on release day, and wait it out for the other titles that have indefinite release dates.

But the real problem here that needs to be fixed is the digital pricing model, not the discs and DRM.

I think the real-world balance would have been much better for the publishers than the "50% off" scenario you've mentioned. Yes, lots of people would share their games with one specific friend or family member. But if the limitation was something like "two users on the same license (an owner and a family member) cannot both play the same game at the same time" then all of those multiplayer or "big" single player types of games would have similar sales to what they have today, because people want to play together and/or they don't want to wait to play the games they're excited about. Niche titles wouldn't see much change at all, I would think. I'd still buy the niche titles I'm interested in, as would my friend, and when we finish them, we'd swap the discs (today) or share them in our library (XO original plan).

None of it matters. MS screwed up in how they've handled this entire thing, but it doesn't change that the games (on both systems) look great. I was just personally excited for the Steam-era of console gaming. Even if the original MS plan had some gaping holes (not unlike Prometheus), it could and would have been fine-tuned with feedback from the gaming community (not just "hardcore" gamers, sorry).

If Game Sharing was the best feature of xb1 why didn't they showcase it at the first unveiling or E3? Give us the details and rules for the feature.

Exactly. And besides, I can't recall a single time where this major a reversal has happened to a major consumer product prior to release. And not because of manufacturing expense or safety concerns, but just due to consumer dissatisfaction. Strictly from a business standpoint it's pretty historic. The closest analogy I can think of is the legendary failure of New Coke, circa 1985 -- but in that case the product came out to massive derision before the mistake was rectified (and even then it wans't like New Coke immediately disappeared; they tried selling both formulas for a while).

Because they didn't know the rules and details of the feature just yet.

And New Coke was brilliant. It made everybody realize how much they missed Original Coke and sales spiked once it was reintroduced.
