I'm surprised Mattrick didn't throw in a "and you'll want to get a second job to afford it." And where was the center of fun for the family before?
Is Twitch just live streaming? I might want to watch someone run through a hard level or something, but I don't care about seeing it in real time. And I don't follow the Starcraft II tournament streams, but aren't at least part of the appeal the announcers?

I thought YouTube was the YouTube of videogame footage. I've never not been able to find something there. "How do defeat boss ____ in game ____ on _____ difficulty" typically surfaces several good results.

I was fixing to add "YouTube is also the YouTube of videogame footage" but didn't have time to edit.

I think the One has the best utilization of this technology, by including a recording of the gameplay when you get an achievement. Oh, how I wish this existed when I got the "Dastardly" achievement in Red Dead Redemption.

I find it funny that they're are finally able to make the living room the center of fun for the family. I find it a bit humorous to think that they really believe that the excitement by using the Xbox for everything else but gaming is going to make it so much better. I can also see the true gamers telling the rest of the family to not keep it on all the time unless someone is playing a game. You just can't treat a gaming console like a cable box and leave it on and running 24/7.

For families that have one room for TV/entertainment this going to be a struggle to find game time, TV time, BR Movie time. For us, we have a REC Room for TV, Movies and Gaming and a Den for straight out TV and possible BR Movies. When I play a game I don't care to be swapping back & forth with TV nor do I want to try to watch a movie while playing a game. Seriously...just how many "gamers" out there really want this stuff? If it were a vast majority then we wouldn't be seeing Day One Launch consoles still available.

That Cracked article I posted awhile back talked about this idea that the video game system now dominates the TV for the entire family. Playing video games is something I usually do in the other room or when the rest of the family is in bed. The idea that we'll all be gathered around, Skyping with grandma, watching TV and playing games together is laughably stupid.

I posed such a question eons ago in this thread. Do they have some data, that we're unaware of, showing that the majority of people game on the main viewing tv? Out of my circle of friends and family, 5 out of 6 do their gaming in a secondary setup.
I love that they act as if it's inconvenient to skype on the billions of iPads and laptops out there while watching tv.

Hmm, I do not know anyone that games on a secondary TV. Well, I know people that do it in addition to the main TV (like myself with one of each console in the bedroom), but not strictly the secondary TV. This is also out of closer to 30 or 40 people, not just 6.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I do most of my gaming on my main TV downstairs (Wii U / PS3 / Wii that I'll get around to moving eventually) but occasionally goof around on my 50" plasma upstairs (Xbox 360 / Xbox / GameCube). My girlfriend and her family have a PS3 hooked up to a tiny little TV in the guest room, and I'm pretty sure the Wii is in her office. I don't think they have any consoles hooked up to the main TV in the living room. I'm sure lots of families have kids who have their console(s) in their bedrooms rather than the living room. That's how it was for most of my friends growing up and for me during the Genesis era. (Our Odyssey2, IntelliVision, and NES were hooked up to the main TV, though.) My kid sister's GameCube, Wii, and Xbox 360 have been connected to the main TV. My kid brother plays his 360 in his bedroom, and the family's Wii is caked under several inches of dust in the den upstairs.
I have no idea what the percentage is between people who game on exclusively on a primary TV vs. exclusively on a secondary set, but I imagine the latter number is not small.

I could definitely see the number for people under the age of 18 and living with parents being much higher than the number of people over 18 gaming on a secondary TV.

I'm actually pretty big into watching Lets Plays but I'm not too excited about the Twitch/UStream integration into the nextgen consoles.
I think it will be cool to be able to quickly and easily show how to do something in a game, or show off a creative build/design in certain games. But for extended livestreams/LPs, I think it will mean a LOT of shit. Most LPs are already pretty shitty. It's usually due to A/V problems, but even when that's working most that have commentary aren't worth listening too. If Sony/MS get the technical part right, then it could lead to some descent content being produced, even if the vast majority is still shit.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Microsoft add a device like that sometime this gen.

No. Smart glass is for showing maps, inventory and stuff. Like the second screen on a DS. The WiiU controller and the PS4-Vita connection will allow you to play your game on a screen that you hold in your hand -- like the first screen on a DS!
I don't think Smart Glass has that ability, but maybe it does when used with a regular controller.

Yeah, SmartGlass is an enhancing second screen, not a fully functional one.

99% of all the gaming I do is on my secondary TV in our master bedroom.

My 360s are hooked up to TVs that don't even have OTA or cable. Fat lot of good that TV nonsense is going to do me.

My reasoning is family. Wife and kids can still watch tv while I game elsewhere (in my case, the man cave) if need be.

I mainly game on the secondary TV in the bedroom. It's a small 32" vizio that I sit on the end of the bed about 4 ft away from. The wife plays her games on the main TV.
