Too little, too late. They've lost me. I was looking at my 360 games and realized that I don't own any xbox exclusives. I originally went with 360 for the backwards compatibility and would have probably went with xbox again.
Sony got it right with their announcement and still have the cheaper console and no forced camera.

I don't trust them.
They tried to pull this shit, got called out, and are kinda reversing.
Pull the fucking kinect bullshit off and allow me to transfer my digital purchases (video and arcade) from marketplace and then we'll talk.

That would be so great. It seemed like they were really trying to stick it to MS, just keep that up.

Sadly that's what you are getting, I wanted the next generation XBOX. Man, this is probably going to hurt the gaming industry a lot. We already lost quite a few large companies such as THQ, I can't imagine who we are going to lose next. By the end of this generation it's only going to be Call of Duty and EA sports games left!

Ugh, both good news and terrible news at the same time. People will finally (probably not be we can hope) shut up about all this crap is a huge plus. No more family sharing and no focus on cheaper digital games and actually ushering gamers into the next generation blows. No more cloud computing possibilities in single player, no more loading multiple games onto the HDD and switching without swapping discs. Now we are stuck just how we currently are because some people demand to be offline and buy physical media. Why not just a simple disc check if your 24hr connection is not available MS???? Keep the sharing as it was!
Oh well, can still abuse Gamestop with buying used and returning so that's good

The reason you can't do a 24 hour disc check is because it would enable piracy at the GameStop level. Guy knows girl working at GameStop, installs game on home console, gets game deactivated, game gets activated on another console, guy gets disc back. It's ridiculous but that's DRM for you in general. I'm sure there are other methods where that would work as well.
I don't know, that seems, to me, like a great way to get you to try out their Gaikai service.

Re: Xbox One: Full Reverse!
I'm just hoping they bring sharing up as they suggest.
I don't know what I'll do if I can't unlock the "Share a game with a family member" achievement

Re: Xbox One: Full Reverse!
Oh well, I'm definitely far less excited about the system now as are most of the people I know. We really were looking forward to seeing MS attempt to stir up the stale gaming industry and truly be a next generation system. I do still like a lot of the new features and achievement system, and ultimately it still has the better online experience and controller. Hopefully they add in the family play with digital copies at a later date or something, and can still bust out some good deals on digital games. I guess the only positive side to this reversal is the fact that a lot more people will be on board with the system, hopefully leading to even more cool stuff in the future.

Re: Xbox One: Full Reverse!
I haven't tried the new PS4 online experience yet so I can't compare, but I'm one of the few people that really wants the HDMI-in feature. Anyway not that much has changed, just the handling of physical copies and region locking. I guess the reason they can't have sharing is the loss of 24-hour check-in. I personally say keep the 24 hour check-in for downloaded games if it means more features, with a "check out" feature that lets you play it offline.
So how does that work, if this was the Xbox 720, so does it become the Xbox 900 or the Xbox 540?

I'm sure Gamestop, Redbox and other mom and pop game shops are dancing a jig today that the consumer has won.

Re: Xbox One: Full Reverse!
Just out of curiosity, what bums you out so badly about this news? Just the potential loss of the new game sharing system? Because they didn't say anything that rules out the cloud computing (as a previous poster said they could still do it, just as an 'enhanced experience' option) and digital distribution still seems to be on the cards. If you really hate having a disc in the system, I'd assume you can just get the digital version?

I don't know why they didn't just say "If you have the disc, you can always play the game." And I really don't see why this change in disc based game policy would effect downloaded games.
