I read somewhere that you can already do that with the current Kinect. There's one game that supports that. LMGTFY.
Dragon Ball Z is the one I found, but I think there's at least another one. And of course you can do the same with the PS3 camera. There are QR codes for LBP2.

Kinectimals had QR-ish codes you could scan. It worked like shit.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I'll post this here instead of in the PS4 thread.
Somehow we ended up in a situation where we haven't played any of the two consoles, but if something is bad in the PS3 right now, "we have faith they will fix it in the PS4". And fuck the Xbox One, we haven't experienced anything about it, but everything sounds sketchy, the Xbox is going to hell.
WTF????
Just read both threads with an open mind and you will see it. You may shit bricks though.

MS is going to have to work very hard to get public perception back in its favor. Backtracking on the DRM isn't enough, that only gets them partway out of the hole they dug for themselves.
And this is from a Xbox 360 owner that's never owned a Playstation.

I thiink it is all about how the PR has been handled. Every move that Microsoft has made with regards to the XB1 has been the wrong move. They have come off in the public eye as being greedy and arrogant. Sony (who came off as arrogant 7 years ago) has said and done things that make it seem like they as if they learned the lesson from losing their hold on the North American market.
And this is coming from someone who thought the XBox E3 press conference was pretty good.

Sony had two things to fix, in my mind, from the PS3 to the PS4: the interface and the network speed. They've shown the interface and have stated bluntly that the speeds will be better.
Microsoft really didn't have anything to fix, but everything to lose. All they really needed to say was that all the tacked on systems built into the 360 over the years now work seamlessly and flawlessly, and now here's a bunch of cool new things the system can do. Instead they totally shit the bed, in every single way, repeatedly. They unveiled a bunch of features first that are better off as bulletpoints on a press release, and then they hammered us with DRM information without bothering to share why they were doing it or what benefit there was in it. Damage done.

If you're going to make that radical a change on how video games on a console work, you have to be upfront and on-message. Show all the benefits, and provide specifics. If people voice concerns about the 24-hour online check, explain the reasoning for it and at least appear to listen and look into ways to accommodate edge cases, instead of hand-waving them away and saying they should stick with the 360 instead.

I'm sure I'll miss something, but here's a brief timeline of MS's past 5 weeks:
I'm not sure how you expect the forum or anybody who's been paying attention to respond.
That said, the hardware seems fine. The box and controller look pretty good, and they still have the best online interface. They also have some time and a killer app in Titanfall, but they need to get on message stat.
- 5/21: Announce the console and talk about nothing but watching live TV on it leaving gamers (the only ones watching) confused
- 5/21: Our futuristic console has live TV, which tech savvy gamers probably don't watch.
- 5/21: Show gamers The Price Is Right to remind them why they don't watch live TV
- 5/21-6/10: Spend the next few weeks confusing people even more by not responding to rumors about your crazy DRM strategy
- 6/10: Clarify your DRM strategy, and confirm that the worst of those rumors were absolutely true...and are awesome
- 6/10: Family sharing may or may not be super amazing. Talk amongst yourselves.
- 6/10: Announce the price of your box to murmering and scattered boos even before Sony announces their price
- 6/10: Get humiliated (word used by Forbes) by your competition for your DRM policies, on stage, to an extended spontaneous standing ovation
- 6/10: Insult to injury? Their box is $100 cheaper. Another ovation.
- 6/12: Tell people that if they can't use your new console they should just stick with your old one
- 6/15: Tell people that those DRM policies are built into the console and can't be easily removed
- 6/12-6/19: Spend a week getting destroyed on preorder numbers
- 6/19: Nevermind all that DRM stuff that we were so committed to and were trying to convince you was so great
- 6/19: Also no more family sharing, even on digital content, because fuck you
- 7/2: We're firing the Xbox president, and he's now the mayor of Farmville
- 7/2: Firing the president 2 weeks after E3 was totally part of our restructuring plan. Everything on track. Nothing to see here.

For me this was an issue of selling the message. Technically speaking everything looked according to modern times. Books, music, movies, etc. moved that way. Yes, book lovers, music lovers, etc. protested but at the end saw the benefits and moved on.
Right now I'm basically seeing an Xbox 2.5 (360.5? 360+360/2?) and same with Sony. In the current state, when Valve releases its console they may become the top dog. Because we will have 3 consoles with the same architecture, and Valve will have Steam that everybody loves, including me, of course.

Hell, Steam even has party chat and Sony can't even say that yet.

It uses Steam, and yes that rocks, but MSFT seems to be trying with their digital sales and PSN has been great about them for years now.

I guess I miss the humor in it. She seems like a mostly logical choice.

I guess. It would probably be funny if she was lead designer for Metro, but something tells me that was a unified effort throughout MS to get everything looking the same.
I loved Windows 7 and didn't mind Office XP, 2003 or 2007 (yes that includes the "ribbon", which was a fair natural progress)

I'm using Windows 8 right now, I hate Metro but the rest of the OS is rock solid. Something tells me they didn't have much say in the "Unification of Platforms" Microsoft was going for. Windows 7 and Office XP - 2007 were quality products.

I would worry more about their datacenter solution. They need one. I know they have mentioned before that everything will be better but I just can't find anything online. Most of the results are related to the breach from 2011.
I can find a lot of info related to the one from Microsoft. Example: http://www.fastcolabs.com/3013493/ho...le-and-faceboo
Consoles from Apple and Google are coming of course.
I even was able to find some info from Valve: https://partner.steamgames.com/documentation/operations
Anyone who has used Steam knows that this works just wonderful.
Oh, and Microsoft's "cloud" is suppose to do more things too.

Geographic redundancy
Steam delivers your game to customers world-wide via a network of over 200 content servers hosted in 66 data centers world wide. Steam is also smart about routing traffic. End users are matched with the best available content servers via a series of client connection managers, which are distributed at network hotspots.

The desktop side of Windows 8 is even better than Windows 7. Windows 8.1 improves on that, as well. JLG might not be the "best" choice for Xbox, but she gets shit done.

Microsoft's network I have no issue with, it has been blazing fast for everything I've used it for thus far. Can't say the same for Sony though hopefully they're getting that fixed.
I hate the Charm Bar and corner windows. Can those be shut off yet? I also hate using a 3rd party piece of software to get a start menu.

I barely knew about Mattrick before this fuck up, based solely in his answers to questions in E3, and some interviews I thought he didn't have any gaming cred.

Yes, the charms bar and corner windows can be disabled in 8.1 (at least, moving your mouse to the corner can be set to NOT trigger those two things). It's in the taskbar preferences along with "boot to desktop" and "show desktop apps first when I open the start screen." There's a good number of "stop acting like this is a tablet" options. I also STRONGLY recommend the "show desktop background on Start Screen" option. It makes the start screen less jarring when it pops up.
