I would rather play these F2P games than that Lococycle that MS will be charging 20 bucks to download on release day. Looks like middle of the road current-gen graphics at best.

Pay to win is my issue with F2P. Since I know they're not making money upfront, I wonder at what point in the game I will be forced to pay money to continue. It's like a drug dealer. First taste is free.

Glad somebody noticed...put a bit of work into that.I'll look at reviews first, and will wait for sales or PS Plus for most, but I'm really loving the look of about a third of the list.

And in case folks aren't familiar with the F2P games we're talking about.
PS4 FREE TO PLAY (F2P) GAMES
Planetside 2
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6rwGPQHBbb0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Warframe
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/SQ5mXcCIzaI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Blacklight: Retribution
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Dcl_v2jGhNg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
DC Universe Online
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AOr3H6fRiZE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
War Thunder
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0s6YO6wdcVE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I will definitely try all of these other than maybe DCU Online.
Edit to add: Warframe and War Thunder are confirmed for launch. Blacklight is targeting launch, and Planetside 2 is targeting "launch window". Of those, Planetside 2 is the most likely to slip, as it's getting sort of a rebuild so it will be less CPU intensive. I haven't looked into DCU, but I can't imagine it wouldn't be ready at launch.

Nice work chess.
Out of the indies the three R's stand out for me; Rime, Rapture & Rogue Legacy. Outlast looks like Condemned which is a good thing. Contrast looks cool, but not enough to go on yet.

Not only is DCU F2P on the PS3, but your characters will transfer to the PS4 and both systems will be on the same servers, so PS3 and PS4 players will be able to play together.

@ MC: Thanks! I'm all about the shooters, and I have a feeling Helldivers is more atmospheric than it comes across.
@ Supermallet: That's why I assumed it would be ready at launch, but SOE has a lot going on, so who knows. PS3 also has that F2P Eve Online FPS called "Dust 514", but I haven't heard enough good about it to get me to download it. The idea seemed really neat (micro battles on planets affect macro universe) but the actual mechanics were reportedly nothing special.
A couple more PS4 indies were announced tonight at PAX as well: Cosmic Star Heroine and Road Not Taken

Binding of Isaac is a pretty fun game, Rogue-ish title with randomly generated dungeons. Like unlimited Zelda dungeons.

Shu confirmed today that both game audio and voice chat are options with headset jack on the DS4. Small news, but good news.

DCU is a game that has always interested me. When it went F2P I tried it on the pc but my rig was ancient. Would definitely try it on a console with a controller and voice chat.

PS4 receiving exclusive content from 20 third-party publishers and developers
http://www.shacknews.com/article/809...rty-developers
The PS4 won't be short on exclusive third-party content following its launch. This year's GameStop Expo revealed that 20 third-party publishers and developers are partnering up with Sony to deliver exclusives for the new console. Some of what you can expect is Bungie offering content for Destiny, Ubisoft delivering content for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Watch Dogs, and Bethesda offering the exclusive Elder Scrolls Online beta.
Here's the full list (via Develop):
Activision Blizzard (for Diablo III)
Atlus
Bethesda Softworks (The Elder Scrolls Online exclusive PS4 beta)
Bluepoint Games (Unspecified "Sony classic" title)
Bungie (for Destiny)
Capcom (Deep Down)
Disney Interactive
EA
Insomniac Games
Konami
Level-5
Nordic Games
Sanzaru Games
Sega
Square Enix
Sumo Digital
Take-Two (including Rockstar Games)
Ubisoft (for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch Dogs)
Warner Bros. (Batman: Arkham Origins)
Zindagi Games
Interestingly, the list mentions exclusive content from Warner Bros. for Batman: Arkham Origins. However, Warner Bros. recently denied that the game would be coming to PS4 or Xbox One. The listing here is likely referencing the exclusive skins announced earlier this year for PS3.
It's a strong third-party exclusive lineup, one that Sony will be taking to battle against Microsoft's own Xbox One exclusives, like Insominiac's Sunset Overdrive, Capcom's Dead Rising 3, EA's exclusive FIFA 14 content, and of course, Activision's timed exclusive Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC.

I tried it when it went free to play. It was fun for a while, but got boring quickly. Also, I never felt the need to spend any money in the game. Might be an interesting diversion for a while, but it just did hold up for lengthy gameplay.

I had no idea that Batman AO wasn't coming to next-gen. That's what I get for not pre-ordering next gen games, I suppose. Still, what an odd decision considering how high-profile a sequel (okay, prequel) it is.

Sony is gearing up for the PS4's launch, but before then, you can get a quick glimpse into what's in store for PlayStation Plus subscribers. A ton of games headline the trailer, most notably the "free" version of DriveClub that's coming to the PS4 at launch.
Sony also reminds us that your Plus membership applies to the PS3, Vita, and PS4. Personally, I just renewed my membership the other day in anticipating for the PS4 -- I've gotten more than my money's worth!
As a side note, it's weird to see Sony officially advertising PlayStation Plus as a requirement to play games online, but that's just the way things go I guess.

Edit - Got excited when I saw Resogun, but then saw the European prices

F2P games (thank you for not using FTP anymore
), it's pretty simple, you can big games, you can have shiny, next-gen graphics, etc. but if the game is not FUN, it will fail. And it needs to be addictive of course. Just check the Tapped Out thread in this forum, it's always in the Top 20 here.
And of course, they need to fin a way to monetize the game in a way that doesn't make you lose players. Because, you know, the servers aren't cheap (unless they use Azure

Love that video, and kind of want to know who the band is. They need to tweak that a bit and use it on this side of the pond.
I've actually been impressed with Sony's marketing lately. Instead of advertising single products, they seem to be marketing "Playstation" as a brand, sort of like Nike or some premium car brands do. SCEE seems to be on the leading edge of this, and the above is a very good example.

Thanks Spatch. I looked them up on youtube, and that was definitely odd. I do like the song though.
And sorry about your connection last night. We definitely could have used you and your uncle Karl in the next few maps! FWIW, I bailed not too long after you did.

re: PS4: Games you don't want, but it's $100 less! (11/15)
So they copied a policy from Xbox, and I had missed the confirmation until now:
On PS3, you can can have your profile and content on up to two consoles, and all users on both machines have full access to your content. Those two PS3s are essentially "equal" in terms of how your content is accessed. I liked this for sharing everything with my kid, but I guess I could see how people would abuse it and split game costs with a buddy. On PS4, you'll have one "home" console where all users can access your content, and then you can sign into any PS4 and play your stuff until you sign out.
The disadvantage is that you go from two "home" consoles to one, but I guess when my kid gets a PS4, the workaround would be to make his machine the "home" console for my profile and then stay signed onto mine. The advantage is that I can sign into my profile anywhere and access my stuff, which I'm not likely to do, but younger people might. And now that I think about it, you and a friend could still take advantage of the system by making each other's PS4 your "home" console.
I don't know, maybe it's nothing, but I like the current system and fear change.
Source video here. It's been posted before, so I won't embed it...just missed that detail the first time around.

More Great Games Coming to PlayStation via Third Party Production Team
Hello Gamers,
Moments ago, Adam Boyes introduced the latest addition to the Third Party Relations family at Playstation, a new group that I get to captain called Third Party Production. The Third Party Relations team at PlayStation is well known for developing solid relationships across this industry, and this new group will work closely with our publishing partners to bring their beloved IPs to some new places. This means you’ll see even more great games on PlayStation platforms, including new IP’s, ports, and localized products. In addition, our partners who are currently in production will have us as a resource to strengthen their development process, ensuring quality and consistency on all Third Party projects.
I’m really excited for our team to explore new opportunities on behalf of PlayStation. Even though we’re brand new to PlayStation, we’ve got years of experience in this industry already under our belt. We already have a project underway, the recently announced PS Vita version of Borderlands 2. We are extremely excited to work with Iron Galaxy Studios on this project and I cannot wait to show and tell you more down the road.
I will share more with you as our adventures continue and new games are made available. In the meantime, let me know in the comments what you want to see on PlayStation (PS3, PS4, PS Vita). Or contact me on Twitter through the ingenious and mesmerizing handle of @giocorsi — original I know, but man is it solid.
Talk soon guys and keep on playing!
