Yea...saw over at Gameinformer on their next issue featuring The Order. That's a real surprise considering it's not due out till early next year and being on the November cover; the month both systems get released. Love the full shot they put on there...that's one to frame.
(except that I'm going to be soooo much better at Planetside than you)....and Chess....don't jump for joy yet. As we say down in the south...don't count your chickens till they hatch.

Pretty much what everyone assumed, I don't recall if it was mentioned or hinted at by Sony already, but more word that they wanted to include the Playstation Eye but had to drop it to keep the $400 price.

Planning On Using An Existing Headset With A PS4? Read This
Yesterday, we received a note from Astro Gaming (whom we've recently spoken with about next-gen audio) indicating that their headsets will work for chat on the PlayStation 4… just not right away. This prompted us to dig a little deeper and find out what gaming headset owners can expect on November 15.
The answer we received from Sony is complicated. If you have a Sony-branded PULSE gaming headset (or the elite edition of that product), you will need to wait for a system update coming in the future. It seems that those will not work at all at launch.
Any other headset that relies on bluetooth for chat will not work at all. If you have something that relies on USB for chat (like the Astro mixamps and Astro A50 wireless system), you'll eventually be able to use those. An update will be coming in the future.
Any headset that relies on digital optical for game audio will continue to provide that out of the box. You just won't be able to chat yet.
The situation is similar for the Xbox One. The connector on the controller is completely different, and until Microsoft delivers the adapter it has promised, you won't be able chat using legacy devices. Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will come with a headset in the box, and there's always the option to use the Kinect as a microphone (but if you have dogs or kids, please don't).
Our Take
While it's good that these headsets will eventually work, it's a shame that both platform holders won't be ready to support them at launch. Gaming headsets are significant investments that can cost hundreds of dollars.
I know that technology moves on and changes are required to improve the overall experience. That doesn't make me any happier that my $300 headset won't work with my new consoles right away.

So in other words nobody will be able to chat for the first couple of weeks on either console unless they use the bundled lil headset for Sony or Kinect fo XBox.

The One now comes with a headset similar in design to the one that came with the 360, but yeah, looks like we will all be chatting on stock shit for a little while.

I can totally see someone who shelled out money for a nice headset being disappointed that they can't use it at launch. Still, your wording seems kind of strange to me. A viable option is right there in the box. Absolutely not saying that it's a best case scenario, but throwing your hands up in the air and saying "I can't chat unless I use this free thing that allows me to chat!" is a little wonky.

Maybe someone with tech knowledge can explain why the bluetooth in the PS3 is not the same as the bluetooth in the PS4? I don't get why my remote won't work with the PS4...

As for USB, I'm not sure I would have used my USB headset rather than the 3.5mm jack in the controller anyway, but damn it, I like options.
I suspect we'll get some clarification fairly quickly, as some this doesn't make sense.

So this only applies to the fancy headsets and bluetooth? The headset jack is still standard and works with anything, right? I plan on using the newly designed apple earbuds for the time being. They're pretty damn comfy.

This is the case with Apple earbuds on Vita as well, so maybe 85% sure.
Edit: Almost every other phone headset with a 3.5mm TRRS jack should work for both sound and chat.

FWIW the two wireless Playstation stereo headsets use some sort of USB dongle connection, not bluetooth. It's been my understanding that they'll work fine, but now I read I have to wait for an update. Not too terrible news, but a teensy bit disappointing.

I don't have strong feelings about it either, other than basic confusion. I don't understand how USB and bluetooth wouldn't work for voicechat. I assume they're built on the same standards as every other bluetooth and USB headset, right?
I sort of understand the remote not working, but I would think it would be a firmware away.

Hopefully this "update" doesn't take two years.

Dammit.
