I really think the Gamespot guy is on to something here:
This contrast between this subtle and honest presentation and the insulting prepackaged schlock that Microsoft presented in their video yesterday can't be overstated.
Nevermind what any of us think about Sony or Microsoft or who has what bias. If you haven't watched Microsoft's video from yesterday, you really really should, because it speaks volumes about what they think of us.

For extra fun, take a drink every time Major Nelson's smile makes you uncomfortable.

I think you're over analyzing it a little bit, it's just corny and trying way too hard.

Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed the video in all its corny infomercial glory, and I was in either hysterical laughter or bewilderment throughout.
It was only afterwards that I thought "Damn, that was kind of insulting", and even that wouldn't have been so bad if they had given their fans a date, which was the only reason they were watching in the first place.

My First Tablet, by Fisher Price.
I can't really wrap my head around that "demand" argument. Every single unit Sony and MS can get to retail will sell out in hours through this calendar year and probably at least through January. Sony is at a very reasonable price point and could sell through instantly well into next year. As a point of reference, it's about the same price as a 250GB 360 with Kinect and is only $50 more than the WiiU. And Microsoft...about the time they catch up with launch demand, they will unleash Titanfall, which is absolutely a system seller IMO.

Not trying to be "that guy" (this time), but does Sony have anything coming in Spring 2014 to go up against Titanfall? I haven't seen what they've announced for that time period. If Titanfall is a system seller (and I believe it will be), then MS has the potential to out-sell PS4 through mid-2014 unless Sony has a big enough exclusive to keep sales up after the whole "launch demand."

I'm way more interested in inFAMOUS Second Son than I am in Titanfall for Spring 2014, but I don't know if it'll be a system seller. There's still so much unannounced. Really, we still only have four console exclusive PS4 retail games announced (Knack, #Driveclub, Killzone Shadow Fall and inFAMOUS SS). You know there's sure to be a ton more on the horizon with all those studios they own.

I'm more interested in TitanFall than anything coming out on the PS4.
But truth be told, I will probably just get it for the Xbox 360.

Infamous will be out in February and is a really beautiful title...just stunning lighting and particle effects. But I don't know whether it's a system seller in the same way Titanfall will be.
I also don't know what the status of Titanfall will be at that point...whether people will perceive/know that it will come to PS4, whether it lives up to the hype, whether it can actually supplant CoD/BF, etc.
There will also be a bunch of third party stuff to muddy the waters.

But Sony has less to worry about at that point, as the price difference and good will should carry them well into 2014, making it very hard to find a PS4 on the shelf for months.

Titanfall might be a great game but seeing one title only and a new IP at that as a system seller is a bit of a stretch.

I might buy Titanfall as a system seller if it were only to be released on the Xbox One. However, that is not the case anymore so I don't see as many people running out to buy a new system to get a game then can play on their current system. I think the brand(s) and a customers personal preference will sell these systems more than one particular title.

Watching the bit where the announcer was beaten with the golden sock was fun. After that I got bored and turned it off. That sock was more than worth the time investment.

If anyone wants proof that Sony likes to keep the hype machine in check, look at this : the first time anyone started a thread about Uncharted in this forum was after the demo was released on PSN. And that turned out the be (arguably) the premiere new exclusive IP of this generation
Out of curiosity, I went to find the "Gears thread" for comparison since it's probably the other candidate for premier new IP of this generation, and it apparently predated the forum.
But in the process of looking for that, I came across a few of the old PS3 vs 360 threads, and they were a real blast from the past. Anybody remember "coffins"? I'd totally forgotten about that term.

I was too busy with my Lair speedruns to take notice of Uncharted.

But the best part was at the end when they cockblocked their entire fanbase, who were 99% certain they were getting a release date and probably couldn't believe they'd just sat through a variety show meets infomercial with no announcements of any substance.
Edit: actually the best part was the blonde girl with the accent. sigh.

Here's a Mark Cerny interview from Gamescom for contrast:

A few new tidbits, and I just like to listen to the dude.

I see all the talk about Titanfall, but isn't it an online multi-player only game?

I think you're stretching on that one chess.
