I love the "we don't want to announce first, otherwise they can copy" crap lines they were feeding the press over the past few months.

But reading the comments, someone mentions a possible Vita upgrade. Maybe it's Move 2.0?
In all seriousness, I wouldn't be against it being an announcement of a new console. It looks like they are showing parts of a console in the preview anyway.

With all the leaks, and most people saying that the PS4 will be more powerful than the new Xbox, they don't have to wait for Microsoft.
They can show their hand, and let Microsoft "embarrass" themselves showing a lower product. (That's what I think they are thinking, I will probably wait on the PS4 and get the new Xbox on release date).
Of course if they announce the new PS4 they are planning to release it on the fall, September/October, and that should be really exciting. My guess, again, is that Microsoft is planning on a Holiday release.

Engadget has an update:
Here's the WSJ article, but it's subscriber-only.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...ch_LEFTTopNews
The Wall Street Journal has added more rumors to the mix, citing its always helpful "people familiar with the matter" who claim that not only will Sony debut its next gen console at the event, but that it will be released later this year. Additionally, it claims that Sony will integrate more social features into the console this time around (Home 2.0 anyone?), as well as changes in "how users interact with the machine." Finally, it claims both Sony and Microsoft had considered discless consoles this gen, but are keeping physical media in the mix for at least one more go-round. Of course, whatever the truth is, we're just a few weeks away from finding out.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?
if they improve the controller the ps4 will replace my xbox as my primary system. Right now I use my PS3 for exclusives only but I am about done with my xbox pushing advertising down my throat...slow as fuck load times for netflix and hbo go....and me continuing to pay for something offered free from other systems/pc....online play.
The cross game chat and party system on my 360 is amazing, but I don't think sony will drop the ball next gen on this. Throw in the fact that I really do believe early reports that the next xbox will be weaker...and I just don't see the need to support microsoft's "family" system.

I'm with you, foxdvd. 360 only got my money because of the backwards compatibility. I would have went with a PS3, otherwise. Never bothered with live, nor would I ever.

I'm guessing they will announce a holiday '13 release date, then after the inevitable delay it may be out for Spring of next year if we're lucky.

Would anyone care to elaborate on what the problem is with the PlayStation controller? I've been using PlayStation controllers since the late '90s and I've never had a problem with them, but I always hear people bitching about the PS3 controller.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?
I'll get a PS4 eventually, but my current plan is to snag an Xbox 720 when it drops this fall, then wait 1-3 years on the Wii U and PS4, picking them up when they've had a price drop or two and have quite a few solid exclusives available. For the PS4 and new Xbox to swap positions in my plan, Sony would have to knock it out of the park and Microsoft would have to drop the ball in one or more big ways. I can't imagine that's going to happen, though Sony will have my attention on Feb 20th.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?
The PS4 will mostly likely be my system of choice next gen. I haven't turned on my 360 in a long time and its exclusives generally aren't games I'm interested in. I don't play online anymore, nor do I play many FPS games. For the quirky adventure/rpg games I enjoy, Sony/Nintendo is the way to go.

The ergonomics of the controller have stayed the same for nearly 2 decades. It is simply not as comfortable as the xbox controller.
