Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I'm guessing the dilemma with keys/harmonies is what Pinata said before about there only being so many available audio tracks per file. Most of the legacy DLC has the crowd singalongs, and those would have to be stripped out and replaced which I'm guessing is the issue here. It would be awesome if Harmonix just came out and TOLD us the process, the challenges and why things are they way that they are, because I could be a lot more sympathetic that way.

Still, I wish there was a way for the system to recognize that you have a particular track, and then offer to replace that track with the RB3 version for a $1 upgrade fee.

So, to get this straight... the legacy Bon Jovi songs are already charted for pro-drums, but not for anything else?

Everything non-RBN is charted for Pro Drums.

So there's a new Pearl Jam live compilation album coming out in January for their 20th anniversary.

I wonder if this means we'll finally see that live Pearl Jam project for Rock Band they were talking about last year, tied into this live album.

Yes, it will be a Wal-Mart exclusive that Wal-Mart won't know about when you ask them, and the tracks will only be compatible with Rock Band 2. For Wii.

 Just won the pack from twitter. Some dude put the code up out of order, and I magically hit the combination after about 5 minutes of rearranging it. Nice!

Make videos of the old and new charts, side-by-side so we can see if there any subtle differences.

Glad someone here won something. Those missing-character codes today were maddening. It's almost worth the twenty bucks not to have to deal with that bullshit.

Still, I'm sure I'll be at it again tomorrow. FML.

Nope - already have it redeemed, that's how I know I was the one who won it. And I was not sent codes :(

It's really not worth it for those places that have thousands of followers IMO. (@RockBand has over 33,000)

Unless you're L&O I guess, and seemingly have no time, except to run through the fucking Da Vinci Code to score some DLC.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Everyone else has posted their thoughts about RB3, so I figured that I'd throw out my impressions of it. Overall, I LOVE the game, but I do have some gripes, specific likes, and a couple of other thoughts:

-I thought that disabling the "recommended songs" was supposed to fix the freezing problem, but every time those to two damn roadies start unloading the truck my Xbox locks up. It's at the point now that I dread any upcoming cut scene. I sure hope a real fix for this is a priority for Harmonix because it's getting really frustrating.
-I like RB2's cash system for getting clothes/instruments rather than RB3's unlocking method. I really wanted to rock out in my kilt throughout the tour and beyond, so I completed the last leg as soon as it became available (where the kilt is unlocked). And since you can only do one leg at a time (another area where RB2 was better, IMO) I've "completed" the game and got the achievement before I've actually completed the game. Kind of anti-climactic.
-The tour seems kind of short, no? Maybe once you max out your fans other areas will open up, but it seems like it's going to take a lot of playing to get there.
-I haven't gotten that far, but I'm holding out hope that the last stages of the tour don't force you to play on hard or expert like RB2 did.
-I'm glad some RB2 clothes were brought back, but I miss a lot of the t-shirts. And I know that I've mentioned it before: I'm not laying down real money for avatar clothes. Those should've been unlockable with a goal or an achievement.
-Keys are lots of fun. It's pretty neat to actually be competent on an Expert level in RB. But I'm still working my way through the second tier, so it's sure to get much tougher for me. I haven't even touched pro keys yet.
-For guitar/bass, I'm finally getting somewhat used to orange being thrown into medium. Still not thrilled about the change, though.
-You can only have one band now? Lame.
-I miss the sing-alongs. But they're present in the new Bon Jovi DLC?!
-It's great to be able to prevent songs from showing up on random play. I intend to play "Green Grass and High Tides" only one more time in my life (to get that guitar goal).
-The goals will give the game lasting appeal and I was happy to see new ones added when I imported the Metal and Vol. 2 track packs over the weekend.
-Though I like the Christmas song they put out several years ago, I hopped off the Raveonettes train with <em>Lust Lust Lust</em>. But I'm really digging "Last Dance", so I guess I should give them another chance.
-The Metric song is great, but they really should've used something off of <em>Fantasies</em> (my favorite album of last year). I mean, really. How can this song NOT be in RB?

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6N4a7RX5x7E?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6N4a7RX5x7E?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

And I've been really jealous of you guys and with your past talks of RB parties, since I have only one friend who's into this game. He lives in DC and only comes down to visit every couple of months, so we don't get to "jam" that often. The rest of my friends just aren't too interested in RB - or any game, really. Well, last week I hosted a little election night get together (yes, we're dorks), but my cable went out beforehand. The broadcast networks didn't start their coverage until well into primetime, so in the meantime I booted up RB3 and a couple of my friends actually joined in. Like most things in life, it's so much more fun when other people are involved. :eyebrow:

I bought Runaway since it has a Pro Guitar chart. That's probably enough Bon Jovi for me, though I would buy the Pro upgrade for Wanted Dead or Alive if it didn't require rebuying the song...

The RB3 version of You Give Love a Bad Name does have at least one charting difference on guitar over the previous version. It has one of those series of notes in a trench at one point, notes which I still don't know how to play.

I know! I never could get the hang of the orange button in the first two games or in Guitar Hero, but I'm really surprised by how natural it feels now. I think spending a lot of time with pro keys first helped a lot with that...moving my hand around to visual cues doesn't seem so daunting now.

My thoughts exactly. "Stadium Love" is a jump-around-playing-air-guitar-in-my-bedroom song for sure. I'd love to see a Metric pack come down the road at some point, and that'd definitely be a band to take full advantage of both pro keys and pro guitar. I'm still holding out hope for a Scott Pilgrim pack that'll include Metric's "Black Sheep" from the movie soundtrack too.

I know the feeling about missing out on the Rock Band parties and everything. I'm able to snag someone else in once in a blue moon, but it's pretty much a solo game for me. I don't really have any interest in playing online...so much of the fun seems to come from having someone in plain sight goofing around.

The goals this time have really changed the way I look at the game and very much for the better. I never really liked playing bass all that much until I started upstrumming, and now I can't get enough of it. They also have me playing songs I usually ignore...I generally only play favorites and whatever's new, and I'm rediscovering how much fun a lot of these tracks I forgot about are.

Fuck, for reals? These are the kinds of details that need to be made available to the consumer.
