Yeah, you take a picture of the redemption message, not the pending download queue. We're on to you, you damn, dirty Oklahoman!

I'm convinced that people have programs that just throw all the combinations at xbox.com and redeem the code within a matter of seconds.

Pro Guitar gets all the attention, but Expert Pro Bass is also extremely fun; I highly recommend it!

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
So Viacom intends to sell Harmonix off. What does this bode for the future of the property, once it loses its corporate parent?
Viacom Inc., the owner of MTV Networks and Comedy Central, said profit beat analysts’ estimates after higher viewership of its cable channels led to increased advertising sales. Profit, excluding the sale of its Harmonix game business and tax benefits, was 75 cents, topping the 70-cent average of 26 analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Viacom said today it will sell Harmonix, creator of the Rock Band music video game. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Bad news for HMX. :(
|
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I have a hard time seeing any good coming of this. :(
I'm just hoping the sale isn't to a company that'll abandon the whole multiplatform thing. It'll be rough to be invested in all this PS3 stuff if the company's sold to Microsoft and goes Xbox-only. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Shit, it would suck if Activision bought them.

Sorry, guys. |

I wouldn't be surprised if this happens just to further fuck over the PS3 crowd.

I wouldn't be surprised either, and honestly, I'm fully expecting it. I'd be okay with buying new hardware if I have to, but if there is a sale to Microsoft, I'd hope they'll offer some way of transitioning DLC.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Exactly.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I just hope whoever buys HMX understands that it is a platform not just a series of titles like GH. Let the HMX guys do their thing, build up the platform, and just take your cut off the top. Sadly, I don't think that has too much of a chance of happening.

Nothing good can come from this. |

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
And correct me if I'm wrong (seriously, I want to be totally wrong about this), but don't they draw a lot of big-name bands into the game BECAUSE of their affiliation with MTV/Viacom/etc?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
From http://paidcontent.org/article/419-v...ars-not-dimes/ :
Viacom (NYSE: VIA) is currently in talks with several buyers for game developer Harmonix, said Philippe Dauman, Viacom’s president and CEO, at the start of the company’s Q3 earnings call. He didn’t say anything about the poor sales that have plagued the unit, since hitting a high with its release of its Beatles Rock Band game late last year. “Our decision to exit this business strategy is to focus on what we do best, and that’s creating world class entertainment,” he said. “The console games business requires expertise we don’t have. For us, this is all about focus.” That said, he expects the sale of Harmonix to be completed “expeditiously,” though Dauman offered no specifics on price or the prospective buyers the company is in negotiations with. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
Well this is a surprise.
Did they really peak with Beatles Rock Band? I thought that title didn't sell a huge number of copies. I assumed the other games sold better. |
Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
So is this why they had to hit the end of October release date no matter what? I doubt they would have been able to release the game during a sale of the company.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution
I guess I'm all for EA getting a shot at them. Or any established company that "gets" what Rock Band is, for that matter.
That being said, I worried the low initial sales of the new GH game were symptomatic of the rhythm gaming genre being toast rather than it just being a example of gamers rebelling against a bad game. With this news, the (controversial) initial sales numbers of RB3, and anecdotal (but possibly incorrect) evidence of the amount of online gamers actually playing RB3 via the leaderboard stats, I really really really hope the ship hasn't sailed on one of my favorite games of all time. I love music, I love video games, and I love how Rock Band brilliantly brings it together. Fingers crossed for good news. |
