Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

Got this yesterday and put about 2 hours in on it last night with my Tekken Hori stick (360). Loving it so far. Still have to get used to the extra buttons a bit, and really wish it was still "High" and "Low" rather than "Back" and "Front", but for the first time in a very long time, it feels like I'm actually playing Mortal Kombat again.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

I finally beat Challenge 275 last night. I'm also kinda close to beating 300 and 251. However, I'm struggling on Styker vs Shao Kahn now because I can't always input the gunshot perfectly every time. It's gets frustrating when I do it 20 times in a row and then flub one which leads me to getting my ass kicked. I wonder if it's easier to execute with the tournament stick?

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

Completed the tower last night. Challenge 251 was by far the most difficult for me due to the fact that Shang Tsung is an awful character to use against Shao Kahn. He only has one move that you can spam, the fireball, and it's slow and weak as hell. Soul steal is helpful if you can pull it off without being hit, but that too is slow and leaves you very vulnerable.

300 was actually not that hard once I sat down and really tried it. I used Ermac and destroyed Shao Kahn the very first time I got to him. I had less than half a health bar left at the start of the fight and he only hit me two times.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

Can you buy your way out of those challenges? For those of us that wouldn't mind that achievement/trophy but don't want to be bothered by the frustration of the 1%?

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

Yeah, you can skip every challenge to get to 300 if you just want to get the special costume and trophy/achievement. But you have to beat 300, unlocking it is not enough.

There is also another trophy/achievement for beating every single challenge.

Oh, you have to actually beat them all without skipping? Good to know, thanks. Not that I've had any trouble in the first 20...

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

For the people that played online (before PSN went down, or on the 360) how does the matchmaking work? In the sense that, how can you make sure when you play your first couple games you’re not faced against an opponent that’s 100X better than you and can combo your ass into a flawless victory in a minute flat? Is there newbie rankings and pro rankings making sure that it’s not uneven?

Thanks!

BTW i'm at 220 in the challenge tower without skipping any, but i fear the worse is to come! LOL

I went to buy this game today at Toys R Us and they looked at me like it didn't even come out yet. They didn't have a single copy for either console in stock. Gotta move out of this town.

Yep, if you want the trophy/achievement for beating the tower, you have to complete them all. Skipping lets you choose what order you can do them in. I skipped from 251 on and just jumped around until only the most difficult ones were left. Then I cut myself...

Good luck, man. Hopefully you'll get through it easier than I did.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

So I finally beat the challenge tower (I used Kung Lao and his teleporting cheese on challenge 300), but it didn't give me the 10,000 koins it promised. Did i read the number wrong? Once you beat it you can't view the number of koins it should have given you.

I've been a little too busy to devote time to this last week, maybe this week I will get to beating story mode and then I suppose work through arcade mode at least until I unlock everything in the krypt.

It doesn't have that sort of Matchmaking.

If you just want to play a quick Player Match, you can search for one and it'll send a request to the first hit it gets. That person then has the option to either Accept or Decline the fight. During this time I think your Personal Record is shown. You can also search rooms, which (at least in 1v1 requests) will let you see a Player's Record/Disconnects and so on.

Honestly the latency and Input Lag is terrible on MK9 online. It's pretty much unplayable. I played against one of my friends who lived down the street just to test things out a couple weeks ago and the Input Lag was pretty bad.

Has anyone actually been able to beat Shao Kahn at the end of the Story mode? It feels like its damn near impossible.

The 7 Klassic outfits & 3 Klassic fatalities that were retailer exclusives will be bundled into one DLC package. Trailer coming on Friday
All those people who spent 30 and 40 bucks for the costumes are about to feel really stupid and ripped off lol.

They'll know when they log into the marketplace to see if there's anything for MK and see the pack

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011

classic DLC is good news. I assumed this would happen, which is why I just picked one pre-order bonus and didn't really sweat not having everything. My only concern is the cost, if it's ~$5 I'll go for it, much more than that, I don't think it will be worth my money.

Now if the PSN store would come back up, I could finally redeem my Reptile codes!

These are the same people that spend $15-$30 on eBay for "exclusive" DLC codes even after they've been announced to wide release. I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to using the tools in front of them.

Keep your distance, spam with the lightning ball, and whenever he taunts, teleport/uppercut. Back away while he's on the ground and repeat until he's dead. It becomes extremely simple when you do it that way. The bosses are programmed to be cheap, so you have to fight cheap.

The pack will be available starting June 7th on Microsoft Xbox Live Arcade for 400 Microsoft Points or $4.99 on PlayStation Network

Go to Options, switch Story Mode Difficulty to Easy and enjoy

Same principles that bjh_18 mentioned still apply.

That's what I did. I honestly am not that huge a Mortal Kombat fan but I enjoy the games to some extent. That last battle was just pissing me off though and I was just ready to finish the story so I put it to easy. Maybe I'll try going back someday and repeating it on normal setting but at the time I basically didn't even want to try anymore.

Here's the DLC trailer Boon mentioned in his tweet.

Looks cool. Too bad my Klassic Sub Zero and Jade vouchers are pretty much useless now though. When the PS Store finally comes up and I will be able to redeem them, the DLC will already be out.

I figure I missed my opportunity now that the DLC was announced. I was planning on using it myself, I didn't think the PSN would be down as long as it was.

Also, I tore off the little tabs that covered up the codes. People might think they've already been used.
