The rad thing about MK9 is that it can be played well on Stick and on Pad.
Even I had to admit how well MK9 ran on a PS3 pad.
For anyone who is wondering about the button layout (or figuring out one that suits them), you do not need a Throw Button or Tag Button mapped separately.
FP + FK= Throw/Throw Tech
Block + Stance Change= X-Ray
BP + BK = Tag

I was shocked at the excellent build-quality of the fightstick. It's fantastic, and after playing MK for 5+ hours last night, I couldn't go back to the regular 360 controller... not for this game. I almost considered buying a second fightstick, but I didn't expect PDP to want $130 for it! That's how much I paid for it with the game, and I don't need two copies of the game.

What system did you buy it for? If it is the 360 version, you can have my extra Ermac code.

Can someone tell me why Goro/Kintaro/Shao Kahn are invincible at some points? You know what I'm talking about, when they flash and don't react to getting hit. WTF!!

This is currently $40 on Amazon. Just thought I'd throw that out there for those who don't visit the deals section. I look forward to giving this a go in a couple days!

And the abilities work the same as nightwolf's reflect back and jades projectile invincibility

I didn't think it was because of some glitch, but they hadn't done that before if I'm not mistaken. They are tough enough as it is, they shouldn't have this ability!

It's not a glitch, I don't know where you got that from my post. Those are the moves that they have and are not a glitch.

Thanks for the heads up on the Toy r us deal. I had bought a copy there just for the Kitana code so when all is said and done I actually came out ahead by a few bucks after trading in that copy to Amazon for $35.

Has anybody else had trouble with Cyber Sub-Zero's ending? There is no dialog at all, just music. I've beaten the game with every character and his is the only one without a single line of dialogue. This makes me think it's a glitch. I'm playing on the PS3.

I don't know if it helps, but I read on another site that turning off all the "Social Messaging" Options in the Main Options Menu helps a lot of the random glitches and especially all the game freezing during Fatalities/Babalities.

Just watched it on youtube, no dialog. I'm going to say it's not a glitch.

It's also weird that he's the only character without an alternate costume.

Decided to pick this up at TRU thanks to the $30 deal. As expected, I suck bad.
Probably didn't help that I jumped right into Story mode and got to chapter 7 before deciding to do the tutorial where it taught me a bunch of stuff I figured out on my own. I somehow got through the tutorial in spite of not understanding the "Kombo" system at all.
When it says do: Y, X, -> + Y... WTF does that mean because it sure as shit isn't pushing those buttons in that order like everything else. It's like you have to do something before that to get "Kombo" started. Not that it really matters with my button-mashing ways.
It was really cool to see all the stuff inspired by MK1 and MK2 since that's when I stopped playing. If anything, I'd say this game as too much stuff for me. I doubt I'll play with 50-75% of the characters after getting the achievements for using/winning with them all. If you were introduced in MK3+, you'e of no use to me.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011
I only have four Challenge Tower stages left and I may very well be that way for a loooong time. 251, 269, 275 and 300 are insanely hard. I would love to punch whomever designed them in the throat because I've honestly never experience so much anger from a fucking video game before. And all the strategies on youtube are a pain in the ass because those people easily lost 20 plus times in a row in order to have the AI just stand around like that.
What I find so frustrating is that in order to beat these stages, you have to play like a cheap piece of shit and just spam the same move over and over again. If you try using actual skill and combos, the game punishes you. The problem with spamming for me is that my PS3 controllers suck and they don't always input correctly, which in turn gets me raped because one wrong move is basically a game over.

Re: Mortal Kombat - 2011
I didn't skip any challenges and spent the past few days working through Challenge 269 (Army of Shao Kahns) and Challenge 275 (Army of Goros). I did find the youtube strategies super helpful (i can't remember the guy's name at the moment, i think it was something like stealthninja). I do agree that these are super frustrating, but were certainly doable with these strategies. I got stuck on a few other challenges, but just had to use that character to beat arcade mode so that I was proficient enough to beat the challenge.
For Styker vs Shao Kahn, spam him with the gun, if he throws the hammer use the b-f kick throw move. It worked like a charm and only took like 3 tries after i had wasted more than an hour trying to do it.
For Ermac vs Goro there is a nice ~10 hit combo that works pretty well (2 punches, ground leveitate, jump kick into teleport, force push). It still took me an hour of trying, but alot of that was getting consistent with the combo.
The boss battles in MK have always been about being cheap and finding a repeatable pattern (good ol' jump kick) that wears down the boss. I dont' think there's ever been an MK boss (other than mabye Shinnok or Shang Tsung) that you could beat without being cheesy.
[sarcasm] I can't wait to see what challenge i get stuck on next [/sarcasm], I have about 20 to go. Maybe I'll have time tonight to get through some more (or get stuck as the case may be).

Anyone have any classic costumes they don't need for ps3? I have an unused Helgast code for Killzone 3 that I am never going to use.

Yes, playing angry doesn't help much, there were a few times I had to step away for a bit.
I got up to challenge 290 yesterday and thought for everyone's benefit I would let you know the trick I used for the extremely hard Test Your Might challenges (Pearl, Diamond). I just took a lighter and rubbed over the butttons, totally makes the challenge easy and saves your thumbs.
