Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Yesterday, I was told I can use Ubuntu to extract datas from the HDD of my dead PS3. I'll give it a shot but wondered if anyone here has (or knows anyone that has) done this themselves. Just curious about how hard it might be.
If this works, I'll just buy a new PS3 rather than fix my old one. |

Can someone tell me why the fuck I have to sit through the "Move" info-screen every single fucking time I put in a Move-enabled game, even though I don't have any of the Move crap installed or attached to my system? You'd think the console/game would know this and not make me have to see it's warning/help screen every time a game boots up. Heck, it'd be annoying even if I had the Move!

Big difference being that, with the Wii, I'm actually holding the controller they're warning me about.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
I know it's annoying, but the way I look at the Move warning screen is that it tells me this game is Move enabled. When I was playing Toy Story 3, I saw the warning screen and I didn't know it was Move enabled. Of course, the ultimate confusion for me is, the Move controllers don't necessarily work in all aspect of the game. In Toy Story 3, I actually tried to play the Aliens mini game using the Move controller and it didn't work :(. Believe it not, I had a hard time blasting 100 aliens in that mini game... I was trying to use the Move controller to achieve the goal, but it turned out that it's a lot easier to do with two DS3 controllers (two players, the 2nd player doesn't have to do much) :)

That's probably because Move functionality is kinda shoehorned in. I think LBP2 has a Move enabled tag on the box too but Move support is very limited. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Hi hi hi
I have been visiting DVDTALK from time to time, but just not posting much. Yeah, I'm playing LBP2 and I haven't touch any of the Move stuff, there's so much to do in that game! |

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Ok help me out.
I bought my first PSN card today to get the Assassins Creed II and Burnout Paradise d/l content. Havent tried it yet but I was wondering. If I lose my PS3 and it gets wiped, how do I make sure I dont have to rebuy this crap? Also, I should save my save files to a thumb drive right? Isnt there a way for me to also sign in somewhere where all my trophies and junk are saved? I ask because a buddy at work was telling me today that his PS3 crashed and lost all his trophies and such. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Things you've bought and downloaded should be under your PSN ID and not tied to your system.

Cool, thanks guys I was a bit worried since Ive never bought something on PSN. Ive only had a PS3 3 years, bout time I tried
How about saves? Thumb drive back up recommended? |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Yes, you can copy the saves to a USB drive, but bear in mind that some of them are copy protected. Also, I believe there are some that will transfer, but are nonetheless tied to the system they were created on. I heard that Ninja Gaiden Sigma was like that.
Any game content you buy is tied to your PSN ID and can be used on up to 5 systems. That is not 5 systems ever, but 5 activated systems. If you are selling or otherwise going to stop using a system, you can deactivate it and get its slot back. Unfortunately, if the system just dies you're SOL, as the system has to be working in order to deactivate it. The trophies are stored locally when you earn them, but when you look at your trophies they are uploaded to Sony's servers. So, the only trophies you would lose in a system crash are the ones you got since the last time they were synced. Get into the habit of looking at your trophies often if you are concerned. |

Sounds like the 3.56 firmware is out. Apparently just a security patch and nothing big for the Sony event that's about to start.

Cloud Saving coming to PSN+ members with FW 3.60: http://kotaku.com/5746393/save-your-...es-in-thin-air
Kotaku has learned that, earlier today, Sony informed developers of a new feature for the PlayStation 3: the ability to save games in the "cloud". Cloud storage means that, rather than keeping your save game data on your PlayStation 3's hard drive, it's instead saved remotely to a server that Sony runs. The advantage of this is that not only does it save the user space on their hard drive, but since it's tied to a PlayStation Network account, it can be pulled down to different consoles whenever and wherever the user desires. First rumoured all the way back in 2009, there is of course a catch: it'll only be made available to PlayStation Plus subscribers, not the great unwashed. Actually, there are two catches: Sony bundled the announcement with the clause that, because saving games to the cloud "will allow save data with the copy prohibited attribute to be copied into the online storage", developers are able to opt out and bar their games from using it should there be a concern. Sony will call the process "Online Saving", and it'll be made available as part of the PS3's upcoming 3.60 firmware update. We've contacted the company for further information, and will update if we hear back. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
I hope there is an option to just save locally first if you want, then sync online like trophies. I don't want it having to upload through their network every time the game creates or changes a save file.
And will this work with existing games, or only those specifically programmed for it going forward? |
